Graham Potter | Sweden manager

I remember being laughed at when I said he wasn’t a good manager and the Brighton setup made him look better than he was.

He's a bit gormless isn't he.

Norwich or Coventry City next season.

I doubt he could get a job at Queens Park Rangers right now, I don't see him coaching again if he is fired with West Ham in this state, he has pals at the FA and will probably do some technical advisor type role and enjoy the millions he has made in anonymity.
They meant Rangers, not QPR. Potter probably would do okay in the SPL.

And the league has improved since then.

They have recruited poorly especially in the last year. Fullkurg and Soucek are part of the problem because they are slow and have no legs. Pacqueta has not been the same since the betting scandal.

Lots of people on twitter were shouting for us to sign Todibo probably because Goldbridge was screaming for it, but he hasn’t been great at all.
I know but his squad is still better than the newly promoted teams and teams like Brentford who suffered a lot because they sold so many players. They should be a mid table team if they hire a more capable manager in my opinion.

Personally I didn't want him after ten Hag but did want him and voted for him when we sacked Ole. Also wanted Pochettino for years so perhaps these managers are not that good anymore now. Don't think it's Brighton structure that made him look good, do believe he did good job in Sweden and also at Swansea. Been struggling since Chelsea no doubt.

Surely problem at West Ham is also not investing enough and not investing properly.

If Potter does get sacked and that looks likely now wonder who they go for. Nuno if they're ready to go back to conservative approach? Someone like Ange would be really interesting choice no doubt.

That team shouldn't be fighting for relegation. Paqueta, Fülkrug and Souček are all regular internationals for their countries and Bowen is often included in England squads. Wan-Bissaka was a regular starter for Man Utd for years as well. Just two years ago they won a European trophy with a similar squad.

There are at least 17 teams in this league with internationals throughout the team. Thats not enough anymore. Regular starter for Man Utd doesn’t exactly carry much weight either given the mess we’ve been. I doubt you’d find many United fans who think that AWB would be a good fit as a RWB. Paqueta and Bowen are obviously very good players and with the right base that should be enough to keep them up but I don’t think it’s a well-constructed team when you compare to others in the league.

I feel bad for him. He was dealt a proper bad hand at Chelsea and I felt he was harshly treated, but as time goes on, his critics, that I spent days and weeks arguing with, appear to be validated. He wont last long at West Ham.

Yeah, their squad looks thin if you're being kind. Every one of their current CB options make Zouma and Ogbonna look like Maldini and Baresi and I don't think they have a single midfielder who can run.

It's impossible to see where any of the Rice or Kudus money has gone.

Was surprised by how easy it was to score tonight.

Even with us he had the third best defence in the league during his time.

When you have a squad this bad, a manager as stubborn and set in their ways as he is - creating a completely unsuitable system for the players he has at his disposal is a recipe for disaster.

Awb isn’t a wing back, the centre backs they have aren’t good enough on the ball to be seeing so much of it and for there to be a need for three of them. The midfield lacks balance, strength and speed. How can you possibly think a Soucek, ward prowse, paqueta midfield can work in this system. Expecting Fullkrug to play as a floating forward as part of a two is so dumb it’s unreal.

It’s a squad more suited to basic sit deep and counter set piece football. And he’s trying to play an intricate back three system.

Brady and Sullivan seem to veer from in vogue continental manager to firefighter British coach pretty regularly when you look at all their appointments in last 20 years at Birmingham and West Ham.

I think if Potter is sacked in next six weeks they could easily hire Ange as I presume he is still based in London and his style is what the West Ham fanbase constantly craves.

If they dither like they did last season with Lopetegui and the promoted teams win more games then the situation would be more desperate and I could see Dyche being appointed on 18 month deal and doing similar job like he did at Everton but the fans would be raging about his style of football.

He is trying to play possession football with that team. Are you expecting any thing else ?

Yet anther case of Wrong manager for a wrong squad . The same mistake we did laat year but atleast our managsr has been supported enough.

Thank God he didn't come to Old Trafford.

At least Amorim has a bit of personality and charisma. This bloke has nothing going for him! Imagine him trying to motivate a team, they'd fall asleep during the team talk!

Norwich or Coventry City next season.

He's like Southgate without the charm....

He comes across like such unlikeable prat in the last press conference. Someone asked a question and he's all "I thought you had your last question, there's other people in here who might want a question asked" like he's scolding a child for hogging a games controller.

I remember being laughed at when I said he wasn’t a good manager and the Brighton setup made him look better than he was.

Yup, been saying similar for a long time. He's not terrible, but he became very overrated culminating in him getting the Chelsea job.

He is like a Southgate manager. Little personality and reading of the game but gets a pass because he seems like a ok guy. I think since Brighton his win rate in the PL is something like 50% or under. That is pretty shocking. This should totally be his last PL job.

He needs £300m to spend and three years in charge before you make any judgement on him #pottersatthewheel

Nice guy, decent ideas, but I don’t think he has enough fear factor with the players.

Of course he needs a board who backs him too. West Ham sold Kudus and replaced him with…?
Yeah, their signings seem to be very much hit and miss as well and now their attack is probably over reliant on Bowen - especially after losing Kudus.

Not being funny but if there is a club that needs £300m to overhaul the squad to meet 'expectations ' after United its West Ham
I’d add in there Everton as well! They were still playing Seamus and Young as fullbacks, at times, last season! But I think they’ve at least made a few signings this summer, right?

Do wonder if it's better at this point in time to try another league abroad and or maybe even a team in the Championship before having a go at another PL team. He's not on a good run.

This is just the normal West Ham 2 year cycle in effect:
- get rid of previous manager and hire a manager to play the "West Ham way"
- turns out the "West Ham way" involves being rubbish and worse at football than everyone else
- fans start booing own team/invading the pitch/trying to beat up the owners/becoming even more racist/etc.
- manager sacked and more pragmatic/results only manager hired
- results significantly improve
- fans start to moan about the team not playing the "West Ham way"...

Works both ways, doesn't it? Just like a shit setup can make a manager look worse than he is.

Think the scoreline last night was made much worse by their horrendous goalkeeper. They conceded 3 goals from corners.

It's funny because he has a better win percentage in the league than Amorim.
I’m not really sure it’s that funny when you consider he’s managed 186 PL games v Amorim who has had 43.

Amorim also has an average higher points per match ratio than him.

They mean in their current job - where Potter has had 20 league games and Amorim 28. They both have a 25% win rate.

Basically, anyone in support of giving Amorim until December or the end of the season should definitely also be saying Potter deserves the same. He’s trying to do the same sort of rebuild but without the huge investment and with a much weaker starting squad.

Who cares about this though?

Like really.

Potter is a PL manager with nearly 200 PL games to his name.

Beyond bizarre to start comparing him to a manager who is yet to reach 50 games and is 10 years his junior.

Sounds familiar though tbf...the first 2 points certainly
