So I was browsing through Twitter and saw this English team full of Arsenal players:

Dave Seaman
Sansom Adams Campbell Cole
Wilshere Platt Merson
Walcott Wright Oxlade-Chamberlain

Got me thinking, who are the greatest English Man United XI who represented England and how would it do against other clubs greatest English XI like Arsenal?

Perhaps posters who support Pool, Chelsea and Spurs and other clubs could do this to compare teams?

In the modern era, something like...

Robinson
Walker King Woodgate Rose
Parker Gascoigne Waddle
Lineker Kane Sheringham

There are plenty of decent ones who could also easily get in, including Anderton, Crouch, Defoe, Mabbutt, Carrick, Lennon etc.

Put that against the Arsenal team I saw on Twitter, you'd be confident of beating that team? I definitely prefer your attack compared to theirs but I personally think their defence is better.

That's a classy team, have heard a lot of great things about Duncan Edwards as a player, such a shame what had happened regarding the Munich Air disaster.

Seems kind of unbalanced. Maybe find a midfielder instead of Fowler? Tuck either McManaman or Barnes in and add Sterling? I'd also put Ince, Henderson or Milner ahead of Fowler.

Nice thread. It made me think of a non-English United 11 which I think would give any team a game:

Schmeichel;

Irwin, Stam, Vidic, Evra;

Ronaldo, Keane, Veron, Best;

Cantona, Law.

Subs: Van der Sar, Albiston, Johnson, Muhren, Kanchelskis, Hughes, Yorke (and more like Tevez, Whiteside, Ole,
Strachan, Park, Ruud and many more I’ve surely forgotten...).

No Giggs as he’s a naughty boy.

Yeah, it is unbalanced, but I'd love to see it. Nah.. Fowler stays.

What about Nobby? We have two world cup winners - Bobby and Nobby.

Midfield a bit weak but up front not too shabby and what a defence.

You could make an amazing team of Argentines who played for Inter Milan

Icardi - Milito
Angellilo
Veron - Cambiasso - Massei
Campagnaro - Burdisso - Samuel - Zanetti
Carrizo

Byrne------------------Stiles-------------Beckham
------------------Foulkes----Ferdinand

No Scholes. Duty-bound to keep Stiles, an actual world cup winner(!) in the team, which messes up the shape a little bit, but with that right side, Beckham would be more right midfielder than wing-back anyway, plus, he can drop crosses from deep, which Taylor would absolutely devour.

Think that team is a match for any that can be made. The midfield and attack are insane and Stiles-Foulkes-Ferdinand are a mean back 2 or 3. Byrne and Beckham's work-rate (on top of that midfield) means the side is adept at shelling up and breaking, too.

You've also got Charlton and Rooney roaming.

Why restrict to modern day when your missing some of your best: Hoddle, Greaves, Peters

Scholes did nothing for England, certainly relative to those from United's midfield that did; there's no way he can be in the team unless it's an exercise in just picking the best players that came from club football.

I'm not sure if I understood the thread properly but Monaco for France could be something like that:

-------------Barthez
Amoros-Thuram-Battiston-Evra
----------Petit----Tigana
Mbappé---Djorkaeff---Henry
-----------Trezeguet

I'll go for Juve and Italy

5-3-2: Buffon/Zoff-Gentile-Scirea-Cannavaro-Chiellini-Cabrini-Pirlo-Tardelli-Conte-Del Piero-Rossi

You can make at least 3 teams from players that were at Juve.

@BlackShark_80's selection of Bayern and Germany should be unbeatable, but Ajax and the Netherlands is also quite good (might be able to contend for the 2nd spot).

Cruyff Van Basten Rep
Davids De Jong Neeskens
Krol Keoman Rijkaard Suurbier
Van der Sar
Honorable mentions: Bergkamp, Seedorf, Keizer, Frank De Boer, Haan, Hulshoff, Overmars, Stam.

I know it never really happened for them together on the international stage, but a prime Lothar Matthäus alongside prime Effenberg and Schweinsteiger post-2010 is basically cheating! It's amazing how many leaders this team has, Kahn, Lahm, Beckenbauer, Matthäus and Effenberg...

What makes this so impressive are the players missing from the list. At GK alone we have Maier and Neuer as other options.

I'm not to familiar with the Ajax team of the 70's so I have to trust your judgement but It's hard to see Rijkaard playing in Stams position, when his own best position is DM. No place for Bergkamp is incredible.

Ajax is definitely in top two alongside Bayern imo.

Yeah.. Great players in the 'reserves' like Augenthaler, Kohler, Ballack, Brehme, Uli & Dieter Hoeness, Klinsmann, Klose, Kroos, Thomas Müller, etc, etc..

I had to make a snap-decision because of the timeless allure of this defense...

Rijkaard should be perfectly fine as a centerback or defensive midfielder or box-to-box midfielder — I was more worried about Koeman, so opting for the proven 1988 EURO winning partnership.

An alternative could be dropping Suurbier and going with a 3-1-2-3-1 diamond (loosely based on Van Gaal's Champions League winners that had Edwin/Rijkaard/Davids/Overmars in the same roles and Cruyff's Dream Team with Koeman orchestrating things from the back)...

Van Basten
Keizer Cruyff Overmars
Davids Neeskens
Rijkaard
Krol Koeman Stam
Van der Sar

It's no wonder that Bayern have 28 titles and the next most have 5 when you see this sort of thing.

Ajax and Bayern would be hard to beat. Juventus' all Italy team is pretty impressive too.

AC Milan would have the meanest defense (with Costacurta and Nesta on the bench too)

F. Cudini
Tassotti Maldini Sr. Baresi Maldini
Albertini Pirlo
Gianni Rivera Donadoni
Altafini Meazza

Who anywhere ever puts Nesta on the bench?

Not trying to be rude, just something I've never seen before.

It was a hard one. It's just Baresi is the best central defender I've ever seen. His positioning and sense of anticipation was unmatched. And Maldini Sr was a legend for Milan, being captain for their first European cup team and 4 serie A titles.

Nice! Juventus have the Zona Mista core, Milan can lean on the Sacchi era — and Internazionale should also have a rigorous defense with Herrera's Catenaccio trio...

Facchetti Bergomi Picchi Burgnich
Zenga

Cannavaro, Pagliuca and Ferri on the bench. All things considered a reasonably strong XI with options like Tardelli, Pirlo, Dino Baggio in midfield — and Meazza, Mazzola, Roberto Baggio, Vieri, Boninsenga, Corso further up the pitch.
