If Mctominay and Maguire are started next season I’m genuinely done with this club.

not watching them stink the place up every other week.
Everyone had a bad season last year, so its hard to judge them on that basis. I still believe Maguire could become a top player for us if he had an injury free Varane or any other solid new CD next to him. Since 2018 he was a rock in England defence and sure it can be emulated at club level given proper coaching and right mix of players.

With Dalot and Telles in RB/LB positions its not easy for any Central Defence in the world guys, We need some balance back in the team before judging Maguire. On top of that imagine any CD playing behind finished Matic or McFred midfield with no sense of position.

If we fix our midfield and RB, I guess it can bring more balance to the team and we can see the real potential of this team.

We'll likely make a third signing in addition to De Jong and Eriksen but it will probably be a squad player to provide cover along the defensive line. It was probably going to be Timber but it looks like we'll have to turn our attention elsewhere now.

Dalot… Varane… Maguire… Shaw

Fred… De Jong… Fernandes

Sancho… Ronaldo… Rashford

We are struggling with transfers at the moment, and with our limited budget, we are being priced out of certain moves.

Antony is a key target, but with Ajax wanting quite a bit, I can’t see if happening, with De Jong costing upwards of £60 million.

At the moment, this looks likeliest, though I'd like it a lot better with a left-sided CB. Maguire can back him up and play RCB a lot since Varane can't play twice a week anyways, and there's ton of fixtures with the World Cup. But even if we sign Lisandro, that could be the first starting XI of the season.

So reports suggest De Jong, Eriksen, Antony and Martinez.

Would the Caf be happy with this business?
Personally, yes. I think only De Jong is a genuine star of the 4, but Lisandro at LCB, Antony wide right and Eriksen rotating with Fred, Bruno and VDB for 2 spots looks like a viable Ten Hag style team. We'd need big seasons from our fullbacks, but I guess we could buy one in January to replace whichever of Shaw or Dalot isn't blossoming.

Honestly, if we get De Jong I'll be happy. If we don't I'll be disappointed no matter who we sign. It's all about him imo.

Would prefer a replacement for Wan Bissaka but I'm not sure if we're even in for a RB at the moment. Maguire, for all of his faults, can still help build up from the back so it's not all on De Jong to do every time. He's made a lot of errors recently but he wasn't always this shit defensively either.

Fernandes might well get binned by Ten Hag because we don't need two playmakers, especially when one would lose the ball often. At least not in games against high pressing teams, anyway. Van De Beek doesn't have a problem maintaining possession in tight positions and is a lot more calm with his build up play (I'm also hoping for a new manager bounce from him). Would be interesting to see how he would balance having two players in De Jong and Fernandes, who like roaming about, in midfield.
If we get Timber, which seems unlikey now, then I'd imagine he'd play both centre back and right back.

Like a Blind type of signing? Yeah that would do
Yeah, exactly like Blind. Like Van Gaal, ten Hag is a big fan of versatile players.

With Telles and Shaw being decent enough options on the left, I believe we should be targeting a centre back who can play right back, hence why Timber makes sense.

Dalot/Timber - Varane/Timber - Maguire/Lindelof - Shaw/Telles

The other option is that ten Hag disregards a centre back/right back and brings in a left footed centre back and keeps Brandon Williams or even AWB, giving us:

Dalot/Williams - Varane/Lindelof - Maguire/Left footed - Shaw/Telles

Can't imagine ten Hag will play De Jong as a single pivot simply because he said:

“He is a wanderer, an adventurer, he’s always on the move, like a shark. With the ball, often, but also without the ball. So if you put him on 6, he’s away too often.

“But you need to give him freedom, otherwise you can’t the best out of him. It wasn’t an easy puzzle, so I decided to play with two number 6s and only one attacking mid. And in this way, we can also dominate the half space, and force opponents to choose.”

Whilst I would like us to get a specialist defesnive midfielder next to De Jong, I think we'll see either Fred/McTominay always next to De Jong if we were to buy him.

Timber won’t come to us this summer by the sounds of it, maybe we’ll go back for him in Jan or the summer. Dalot I don’t mind but Williams isn’t good enough we need to move him on.

Guess we'll keep AWB then, who isn't as bad as some suggest, but going forward, I don't think he's a ten Hag player. Time will tell.....

It changers every week, but as of now:

De Gea
Dalot Varane Martinez Shaw
Fred De Jong
Antony Eriksen Sancho
Ronaldo
Total Budget 100-150m

In:
De Jong - 70m
Antony - 40m
Martinez - 40m
Eriksen - 0m

Out:
Henderson - loan (20m option to buy)

That line up looks much better than what we ended the season with but midfield still looks potentially porous. Put Rice in place of Fred and I’d be delighted with that team but we’re not getting him and I think your prediction will be pretty close.

Yup that is pretty much exactly what I predict he will roll with. Some games Bruno may play at the 10 with Rashford starting on the left but I fully expect Bruno to mostly play off the left next season. Midfield looks a little soft but we should be able to keep the ball a lot better with this group starting. Maguire/RB could use an upgrade but I think we’ll sign a young defender to cover for both those positions. Antony/another striker may also come in.

As much as I like the look of this… it’s not very balanced and that midfield will probably get destroyed because none of them can defend… de jong isn’t bad at it but I don’t think the role suits him to be the deepest.

Still don‘t expect any incomings ready for our first game

De Gea
Dalot - Varane - Maguire - Shaw
Fred - McTominay - Bruno
Rashford - Ronaldo - Sancho

this is probably the most likely 11 conditional of pre season form. Then slowly once new players come in we might adjust them to the first 11

Hopefully only there until January window, however more realistically next summer
