Haaland at City | Signs new 9.5 year contract

Funny feud. Arsenal haven't won a trophy in 11 years, haven't won the league in little over 20 years and odds are they won't win it this season either. Not entirely sure why they're taking the piss out of the most dominant team in the league for the past 7 years (they have fecking 6 league titles in this period)

It's also a bit funny to see Daddy Haaland get involved, considering the career he actually had at Manchester City.

Insanely small time from everyone involved

Correct… to be fair, they’ve won four in 11 years…

I can’t fecking stand City. Chelsea always get overlooked when talking about dominance, and they’ve not reached our peak imo. We’ve got 2 CL and it cost us less!

When your dad has to defend you on twitter

Wasn't aware of the sums involved. He'd be an absolute numpty to refuse that contract. It's an incredible package. And I'm assuming there's a clause somewhere which would grant him a lump sum in case of demotion.

Go back to Bluemoon mate.

That's what i get for trusting AI's online.

Also: Chelsea is a fecking disgrace of a club.

It's Alfie and it's not even close. He's a talentless piece of shit freeloading off his son.
Fair call. I've got to admit I don't blame Keane for clattering Alfie. Seeing that smarmy little git standing over Keane and mocking him when he'd done his cruciate was sickening.

That’s an obscene amount of money for a footballer. Don’t wages count as part of PSR as well? Surely City don’t earn enough to offset these type of wages?
They are the 2nd most profitable club in the world after Madrid.... or so they've conned everyone into believing anyway.

I enjoyed Henry and Carraghers' post match review on Haaland. Carra thought he didnt contribute enough in his hold up play whereas Henry was more concerned about the fact that he wasn't making runs when the opportunity was there.

This 10 year contract could turn out to be a very costly mistake. If he stops performing, or if his level drops there is no way another team will step into this contract. His wages is almost 3x of Casemiro.

If there's any need, they'll just shift him over to one of the other clubs within their group, but i doubt it'll come to that.

They could have him just restocking the coke machine in the training ground for the rest of his contract and it wouldn’t hurt them financially. They’ve got unlimited wealth, and nobody is able to rein them in while they’re spending it.

Possibly but the other club will go bankrupt for sure. He is on nearly GBP50m per annum for 10 years.

Yes, for sure. More about the PSR than an actual cash issue. Not to mention that they will have to increase wages for their other star players.

Now he's made for life with this ridiculous contract, he doesn't need to try anymore, does he.

If the ball falls into his lap, then he'll score, of course, otherwise, why put the effort in.

It's not like he wasn't made for life before this contract, he's been climbing fast up the Norways top 100 list over the richest people in the country, and that was before his father moved to Monaco to do investments from there. He's been surrounded by people taking care of his financials from pretty much when he left Molde, they've done a lot of investments in properties, stock market.

What's your point?

He has no need for any further ambition, he's secure for the rest of his career in football. Even if they get kicked out of the football league, why should he bother, it's no skin off his nose.

Top, top, players want to be continuously challenged, he doesn't.

But he was already secured before.

Henry was the one spot on. We don't have to ask players stuff that they normally don't do, yet to ask them to exploit some of their best assets? yeap. Like Henry was saying about running into space with great pace. Its cool also if some player adds more layers, like Carra said of pressing, etc, but primarly a player must do what he is known about. Micah complaining of him beimng a bit soft given his size, it's right too.

SIDE NOTE: Nevertheles I'm sick and tired of former players not keeping a more old time journo composure, a more objective, devoid of puns opinions. It's silly watching all these former players talking about current players in a style they would have hated being talked about, also like in the Overlap, constantly talking about their glory past and how magnificient and winners they were. Shvt the feck up, even if I like lots of them, that I find them funny, for moments it irritates me how thet turn into social media trolls so easily.

I think Haaland and City are married for the long term now. Unless (until?) he's ready to pack it in to Saudi Arabia, the only other clubs that could possibly afford him are PSG (who City won't sell to) and Real (who are seemingly committed to Mbappe at CF). I have my doubts about how hard either of those clubs would pursue him even if he was available, just based on the footballing fit.

He is honestly a really weird footballer and the game at the weekend was a great illustration. I'm not sure how many other strikers in the world could score that goal, great movement to get ahead of Saliba, massive leap for a guy that is already huge, and then amazing power on the header given that the cross was kind of a loopy doink without pace.

On the flip side, he apparently went 37 minutes at one point without touching the ball. He's occupying players and making runs and everything but on some level you're playing with 10 in those situations.

So strange, I really think a lot of it is due naturally to how City play and now he’s developed some bad habits out of boredom/frustration. He always looks far more comfortable when city want to open it up and play more direct and in transition, and when they are doing the classic JDP stuff he’s almost pointless because the current city squad outside of KDB just isn’t going to play those incisive balls that are risky trying to find him. They’d rather advance the ball and camp in the opposition final third more methodically.

I’d love to have seen how he’d work in a Liverpool/Madrid/Newcastle type transition heavy team where he gets to run constantly.

Agreed.

I also had the "pleasure" of seeing him out on the town once. Pointed him out to my Brazilian mate who wanted to go over and strike up a convo. Was perfectly nice until I mentioned I was a United fan, then he completely blanked me the rest of the time, the petty twat

Which is irrelevant.

Someone with his ability should be constantly pushing himself to improve, not resting on his laurels and coasting through the rest of his career because he doesn't need to earn his wages anymore.

You're using money as a reason, but he was already worth several hundred £ mill. prior to signing it. He could've easily retired now and lived happily without ever working again.

I don't like the fecker, but we're talking about someone that started with a specialized diet, sleeping patterns, fecking personal cryo chamber, years ago, just to do make sure that there's nothing in his personal life that has a negative effect on his body and mind. His overall attitude towards his health and fitness is in the upper end of the scale, i'd be very surprised, but also very happy, if he suddenly became less professional after signing that mental contract.

Yeah its tedious. All reactionary. The players should actually be able to provide higher quality insights because they played the game and would have contacts that can probably feed them some insights into what a team was trying to do etc. I can now guess what Neville is going to say even before he opens his mouth. Same for most others

Vast majority just isn't interested, they prefer Micah Richards making funny noises.

City are too reliant on him. If it is not going through him, they seem a little low on ideas. Mind you he can hurt you in one moment as he did against us last weekend.

They need to really replace KdB long term. Hard to do.
