Haaland at City

Regressed massively. He looked superhuman when he first joined City — scoring from every angle with power and pace. Doesn't look arsed these days, and barely has an impact on games at all.

Whoscored says he has no goals in his last 9 cup finals, 8 for City. They're including Community Shields for this so a tad inflated but still a poor record.

He has also never scored in a semi final in his entire career.

Came back into a team that were slowly recovering just in time for a 0-0 against Southampton and a Cup Final loss.

Him and Odegaard have been dreadful this season. Something in Norwegian waters?
Haaland hasn't been dreadful. He's scored 30 goals in about 40 games this season. If you exchanged him for Hojlund, we'd probably swap places with City in the league.

I don't think he has regressed, like many of them, he just doesn't seem bothered.

There's no drive to get a shot off, he doesn't make runs like he used to, and he barely touched the ball in that second half.

He'll move somwhere in a year or two and start scoring for fun again I reckon.

I wouldn’t write him off yet. City have been out of sorts all season and he’s coming back off a long injury layoff.

Fully expect him to be on 20 league goals by November next season.

Has to be kept in mind that he scored 10 goals in the first 5 PL matches of the season. City’s form falling off a cliff after Rodri getting injured won’t have helped, but Haaland was having to be really patient at the best of times in waiting for chances. His season’s been pretty weak for long stretches, by any standard.

He’s much better suited for a team that is more likely to hit the opposition on the break. Thankfully he’s kept his scoring up for Norway. We’ll need it when we face
Italy in a little under a month.

To be fair it’s not saying much for our striker situation. Dreadful by his standards. Certainly in the 2nd half of the season.
Yeah, it's been poor by his standards recently. But in fairness, those standards have been insanely high. I don't think his performances have dropped off a cliff like Odegaard's have though.

This is what happens when you allow players to sign decade long contracts. There is no motivation to improve or up your game.

He will regress even further - he can bang in 100 goals but talent wise he will never come close to the top 5 players in the world.

Flat track bully.

Nah, Haaland was on fire for the first few months and then City had the bad spell. He hasn’t looked the same since then, but nor have most of the City team.

I wonder if his mindset is right to have a sustained career at the top. Getting Magnus Carlsen vibes off him, too arrogant to keep competing in the face of adversity.

What? I do not think you know much about Magnus Carlsen.

Great player and brilliant goal scorer who will ultimately rarely enough be a big factor in the biggest games.

He hasn’t looked super human in a long while. Will be interesting to see if he gets that back. It’s the difference between potentially challenging the all-timers and just being a striker of his generation.

That player who looked like a glitch in the matrix surely can’t have dissipated in a few seasons.

He really has been poor at making runs and himself open, and defenders have been much more physical with him.

So, sort of like Thierry Henry? Except without the charisma, skill and jaw-dropping goals?

He's basically like Pac Man. Gobbling up all the pills, but if the Ghost gets you before the final level what does that matter? He's a numpty.

Henry, Salah, Haaland. Padders. Disappears when it matters. Would take Drogba over the three any day of the week.

Drogba doesn't hold a candle to any of the listed names and is overrated precisely for this reason, as much of a legend as he is

He didn't do much in "big games" for his national team either, but that's another story

Reminds me of another player who got a big feck off contract and checked out . But I’d gladly take City’s problem rather than our own

Neither did Henry, Salah or Haaland, but that's also another story.

What Henry, Salah and Drogba all did was be crucial to their respective sides winning football matches.

There is obviously no way to know this, but the fact that City don’t score any more goals than they did pre-Haaland, the fact that he has never scored in a semi final, 0 in 7 for finals with City, and that he often gets bullied in big games?

All of that suggests that he isn’t integral to them winning football matches. You would want more than that for 1 million a week.

Drogba was a better overall player than Haaland by some distance.

Not that far behind in goals/assists per minute on field outside of penalties and decisive in more finals than not, he's a fecking chandelier compared to the others.

I wonder if the charges are hanging over some players including haaland.
Maybe it’s just a team coming to the end of superiority and regressing but a few of them are well out of sorts.
Hopefully he’ll be playing in the national league next year!
