Haaland at City

I was saying to my friend how he really needs to offer more in these games, but hey whatever we say, he changed the game with that lovely cushioned header so fair play.

So you were wrong twice. Doesn't back up your argument.
You think I posted my initial comment without knowing that Henry scored in the Confederations Cup final, and then fact-checked myself a minute later?

Chill out and enjoy the trophy presentation. I still think Haaland is a ghost in finals for City, but that shouldn't bother you 10 minutes after you've secured a trophy.

It’s less about finals and more because outside of goals he’s hardly a PL level footballer.

Looks really shite. At the start of the season he looked to have developed his game

I'm only takin the piss. He is a ghost in cup finals at least at City.

I don't really care about the league cup honestly. Dismissing the German cup as smaller than the League Cup is a weird one though.
I'm just hopeful this causes Arsenal to panic a little, genuinely don't care about the league cup, it's nice but not meaningful unless it comes with a major trophy too.

He can be crap till the summer, then light up the WC. That's quite alright imo.

I'm willing to bet that more people globally tuned in to watch today's final than any of the German Cup finals over the last 5 years. No one outside of Germany cares much for the German Cup because, as a previous caf title has stated - German football is turd.

Haaland and Gyokeres put in two of the all time worst striker performances in a cup final today.

Two absolute donkeys. Haaland is a goalscoring machine but when he's bad he's absolutely horrendous.

And no one in England really cares about the league cup. I mean it's called Mickey Mouse cup relentlessly for years. It probably gets more views simply because its English football. The idea it's more prestigious or bigger game is nonsense. If Haaland had scored a hattrick today, it wouldn't have changed his big game standing at all and I get the feeling some criticising him in here would be dropping the opposite opinion.

Speak for yourself. Our last League Cup final win was a class day out. There's usually a better atmosphere at League Cup finals than FA Cup finals because fewer tickets go to corporate Johnnys. Though I obviously prefer winning the FA Cup, the League Cup is a decent trophy to win and it often sets the tone for the feeling at the club for the remainder of the season when you win it.

What I would say about the 'Mickey Mouse trophy' label is that it is perceived as a bit of an inconvenience in the earlier rounds due to fixture congestion. But from the semi finals onwards, I and every football fan I know, starts caring about winning the League Cup. I can't imagine not caring about the final if United were in it. I just wouldn't go as far as Newcastle would go with organising a trophy parade for it.

Be Haaland, score 30 goals between the period of August and November, be patchy for the run-in until the end of the season, do nothing in major cup games, end season. Repeat

To be fair to Haaland, fairly honest not to make a meal out of Gabriel's mini headbutt. Other players would have got him sent off.

Huge goal and one of his best performances in a while. Should put the doesn't score in big games critics on cooldown for a bit. 5 in his last 5 vs Arsenal or something.

"If I fell on the floor, which I won't do unless absolutely attacked" - You can be annoyed by the robot, but you can't knock that. Good on him staying on his feet, but it actively encourages play acting and why it's needed to sell the red card, shame.

He doesn't throw himself to the floor, which is good, but he also doesn't even make a hand to face motion to just feel the area and indicate there'd been contact. A bit foolish in hindsight tbh.

I don’t think he played well, but he was still closing done at the end and working hard, and he got the big goal. Fair play to him.

Agreed and don't. I don't like and can't sit here and say he should be doing it just to gain something.... that's not just the refs job, but he has a team in place to know that was a red card offence with VAR, they just let it slide.

But yes - the whole thing shows why stuff like Neymar rolling around like a nutter will never go away.

I think he's been really poor since new year but that is a massive goal.

I think a part of it has been that 4-2-2-2 Pep has been using against teams with wingbacks. He isn’t suited to it at all and just has to play a role and occupy defenders in it.

But to his credit, he does it with no fuss, while other big players would be complaining about his it effected their tallies and stats.

Yeah tbf to him on the pitch he plays the game as it should be. No issue with him as a footballer.

Yes he’s great at all of that. But outside of goals he’s not a PL standard player.
What standard though because strikers generally aren't supposed to be as good on the ball as midfielders but are better at finishing, that's how it always was until the false 9 phenomenon. You weren't looking at Shearer and Cole and thinking what a great passer and dribbler. City could win 3 out of 4 leagues since he arrived in the league, scoring close to a goal a game, so that's him doing his part of the job very effectively.

His battling with Gabriel and Saliba is honestly great to watch.
