Mbappé’s English is flawless. What’s going on there? Are there so many nationalities at PSG they all speak in English together? Any other reason he’s so fluent?
He's a smart young man and I suppose most teams in elite world football have English as a lingua franca due to so many nationalities in a top squad. He speaks a bit of Spanish too which is rather surprising considering he's never played or lived in a Spanish speaking setting.

I just watched his first 23 goals for Dortmund on youtube. Ok not the same as watching a whole match, but he looks a very good finisher and potentially an elite striker. Nothing ground breaking. After whats happen with Timo Werner this season, im not too sure how good the defending is in Bundesliga at present. Be intetesting to see him in a different league.

Mbappe has that turn of pace (best way to describe it is an ability to go through the gears, speed up andnslow down while dribbling) that very very few players have and those that did have it in their prime are a very elite list i.e. Henry, R9, CR7, Messi etc.

Mbappe is the only player i have seen that comes anywhere near a young R9 and even then the young R9 was better at same age. For me personally its Mbappe who is hier apparent to the Messi/Ronaldo crown. Need to see another season of Haaland to really judge him.
Premier league is always a different ballpark. You either can cut it in the PL or bust.

There are many german league forwards who came with good reputation and failed, Haaland is no exception.

But that’s actually a load of nonsense, isn’t it? As there are plenty of players who have performed at one PL club, but not another, not to mention questionable imports from other leagues who have gone on to improve their performances in the PL.

It’s such a throwaway comment and doesn’t reflect reality, or the host of other multiples that may lead to a player achieving success in a particular league or club.

I can't see any reason why Mbappe isn't going to dominate the future best player of the year awards. He's honed the skillset that he has extremely well and is so young he can keep on improving. I don't know if he has to move to the PL or La Liga to be a contender unless he wins the CL every year with PSG.

I think it’s down to Haaland being more attainable for us than Mbappe, therefore people tend to get a bit giddy and heavily overrate him. There’s not a chance the latter is coming here.
That's been true up until this week, but I'd expect things to swing much more heavily in favour of Mbappe, now that it appears we aren't in the running for Haaland. I'd expect general criticism of Haaland across the forum to increase, too ("never wanted him anyway!"). Indeed, this already seems to be happening.

Yea Mbappe scored twice against Bayern and therefore is clearly better than Haaland..... Only Haaland also scored twice against Bayern a month ago.

I voted Mbappe because I feel his overall game is better tha Haaland, but Haaland is a supreme finisher over Mbappe. Haaland though does need to develop his technical game better or he may be left behind in this generation of football, though some teams like United and Bayern can still work with a traditional center forward. If he were in the 90s, he'd be set as one of the greatest ever.

If I had the choice between the two for United though, I'd go for Haaland 100% of the time. We desperately lack a clinical finisher and there aren't many more clinical finishers in world football than Haaland right now. We have Rashford at LW so I wouldn't break the bank for Mbappe

Probably. It depends on who signs him as well. If City/Liverpool/Chelsea sign him he'll become a future GOAT overnight for some :p

Mbappe is basically an even better Rashford. Imagine having Rashford x 2. We’d be an absolute menace going forward.

Rashers is close to world class himself, our clear gap is in a consistent goalscorer and in that regard Haaland is better than Mbappe, therefore I would still go for Haaland.

What's Mbappe like as a out-and-out/leading forward ?
Personally I think he can do that role to a high standard in certain tactical set ups. I don't think he's the type of player you could throw in as the lone CF in any side and have him thrive in the same way you could with a more traditional CF like Haaland.

If United signed Mbappe as our no.9 I'm not sure we'd get anywhere near as much out of him than we would with Haaland, largely because of the way we play. At City I think the view would be different.

You’re going to love the Messi-Ronaldo thread...
I understand the urge for people to compare the two main rivals for ballon d'or, but both Messi and Ronaldo could have played in the same team without causing harm to each other (except maybe for their egos).
Almost happened, but Ronaldo gave preference to Real Madrid and Barcelona turned to Zlatan.

For sure. But they don’t often speak with as good an accent as Mbappé! My dad’s best friend is French. He’s married to an Irish woman and has been living in Ireland since the 1960s but still speaks with an incredibly strong French accent. Tbh I think it’s quite cool. Vive le difference!

I remember seeing a Nike General Manager teasing Mbappe on his english lessons. Part of Nike's plan for Mbappe requires him to speak good english and I wouldn't be surprised if it was a contractual obligation for Mbappe to have english lessons.

Mbappe is superior technicality, both are outstanding physically, Haaland is the better finisher with more variations in goals. I doubt either will get to prime Messi-Ronaldo levels though, technically there would be better footballers than the both of them, you could also factor in consistency, can they do 12years of being the best two? I feel in the current era Messi is the most gifted player, only Ronaldo could keep up, neither Mbappe nor Haaland has the brilliance of Messi, the likes of Sancho, Foden and other youngsters could run them closely and look better some years.

Every league is a different ballpark. Every club is a different ballpark. Every situation is hit or miss.

We believe that the PL is some gold standard. Yet foreign players come here and dominate. Yet we very rarely export players that make an impact overseas.

The PL is an easy league with shit loads of cash floating around. Good players tend to do pretty well in most places. Our league is not special. We just get told it is.

Think this comparison would look so stupid in few years. Halaand could become another good striker but Mbappe is on other level. Put Mbappe in any teams - City, United, Chelsea, Madrid, Liverpool,Bayern, Barca, Juve - you would still see a great player.

Halaand won't just do that. Unless team is played to his strengths, he won't shine ,atleast for now.

We could get another Ruud here but Mbappe would give us Ronaldo or Messi numbers.

Numbers will never be an issue for Haaland. All records are under threat with him around. Nice and well mentioning Ruud but Ruud was never the athlete Haaland is and he didn't strike the ball as clean. The kid is a monster and so is Mbappe.

I agree. Haaland is solely a clinical striker in a generation where they seem to be rare so is somewhat over hyped. Mbappe certainly has the higher ceiling for me. He's already been a pivotal influence in a world cup win as a teenager. He's the closest in a conversation regarding the more linear version of R9 pre injury.

Halaand and mbappe are not the same. Mbappe is a much better player. And halaand better pick a team that suits him next or the hype will die quick.

It better not be barcelona, that transfer has flop written all over it.

Recency bias after a couple of game where Mbappe get all the space he could ever ask for is insane.

He doesn't play like this every week. Not every team plays a suicidal high block.

I think there’s more of a chance your quote will look stupid in a few years tbh, both of them are monsters in there own right, just because Mbappe has been phenomenal in a fantastic team it doesn’t have to downgrade Haalands fantastic performances in a less experienced ucl team with much less quality than PSG ,

If you put Haaland in that PSG team last night he’s coming away with 2 goals minimum , easily.

Both different type of players, both absolute phenomenal footballers

A couple of excellent performances from Mbappe (no goals or assists yesterday, even though he was fantastic) and a 3 match dry spell from Haaland and suddenly Mbappe is still the next Messi/R9 hybrid while the other is just overhyped.
Calm down, nothing has changed. A 20 year old starting and not scoring in three straight matches for the first time in his career doesn't change much (only getting 2 assists in those matches). Was bound to happen sooner or later.
