Recency bias after a couple of game where Mbappe get all the space he could ever ask for is insane.

He doesn't play like this every week. Not every team plays a suicidal high block.
Mbappe was probably France's best player in a world cup. He's been at this level for years. Haaland literally joined Dortmund January 2020

Mbappe was not our best player at the world cup, that was Griezmann.
Scored 2 past an horrible Argentine defense.
Scored 1 in a 4 goal game vs an extremely tired Croatian defense that had played 90 extra minutes compared to us.
The only tough defenses we faced were Uruguay and Belgium, he did not score against either side while Griezmann was involved on every goal we scored in both games + the first 2 goals of the final.

Also Mbappe is 2 years older than Haaland so I don't really get the argument here, of course he would have started making noise earlier..
And quite obviously you cannot compare someone who plays for Norway and someone who plays for France, It's not like Mbappe would ever win anything if he played for Norway either.

Amazed Mbappe might actually be favourite for the Ballon D Or this year down to one competition alone.

Surely Lewandoski is owed the title. The guy has been on another planet as a striker these past few years. Got robbed of his Ballon D Or last year with Covid so about time he got the thing. Guy is a goal scoring machine and one of the best strikers / players ever basically now.

If Mbappe ever reaches his level which is debatable fair play but he does not deserve a Ballon D Or first.

The argument here is simple, how can anyone act like Mbappe is only looked at as better because of two weeks of football, he's accomplished more and has been here longer, in bigger stages. Talk all you want in order to diminish his accomplishments in that world cup, but he was france's biggest threat. Haaland literally joined Dortmund a year ago. He hasn't been at the highest level long enough or even dominant in a tough enough league to put him at Mbappe's level yet. With Haaland, just like Werner, Havertz, Joao Felix, Kagawa, Mhiki, Schurrle and Jovic, there is ample chance that the Bundesliga is also contributing to his looking dominant. That is not to say that he hasn't performed in Europe, but I get the feeling with him that he's not a plug and play player. He's not good enough yet to demand the type of wages requested or to be put on that pedestal. He's clearly going to be a world class player, but I do feel people are jumping the gun and overestimating his potential impact. We've seen the Rooney's, Robinho's, Adriano's come through without becoming Ronaldo or Messi, yet he's requesting best player in the world income without being that yet.

Mbappé was our best offensive player against Belgium despite not scoring. Created twice as many chances as the second best.

What happened last year is irrelevant. If PSG reaches the final of the CL while Mbappé scores 2 or 3 extra goals and if France has a good Euro (meaning he'll surely score), he'll deserve the Ballon d'or. The kid scored 3 goals in 1 game against Barcelona, 2 against Bayern (he didn't in the home game but was still very good), what else would you want? CL and national competitions matter.

Lewa had a great Bundesliga season but only scored 5 goals in CL in a team that got eliminated in the quarter finals and plays for Poland. Sucks for him but that's the way it is. He's not at a 2012 Messi level justifying giving him the Ballon d'Or without one of his teams (club or national) reaching the final stages of a big competition.

If PSG win the CL and France win the EUROS Mbappe is guaranteed the Ballon D'or pretty much.
Despite Mbappe scoring both their goals today, PSG have let the lead slip in injury time. 2-2 and 3 points behind Lille with equal games played.

Lille have only lost three games all season. Psg have lost eight. Its no certainty.

They won though. Not sure the league will matter much for the Ballon d'Or in a Euros year anyway.

I know PSG might lose the league, but CL trumps the league. No one really cares about league performances in these awards. It's mostly international tournaments as it's been most of the time. Milan came 4th in Serie A and Kaka walked it in 2007. If he has a crazy performance against City in the CL and does something in the final it's as good as his unless France really bomb in the EUROs. It's all about narratives.

Is he fully fit?

Horrific performance besides that 1 bit of play that almost set up Verratti.

Struggled just as much if not more than Haaland did vs City

Where are those who jumped the gun and said Mbappe was miles ahead for scoring vs Bayern while City kept Haaland quiet?

A bit disingenuous. He was carrying an injury which is why he couldn't even play today.

I'd rather have Haaland anyways because he is a great CF. Both great players in their own way.
Agree. Mbappe is better in terms of pure footballing ability but I desperately want a no nonsense CF. We need a badass up top that guarantees goals.

Pure attitude and dedication wise Haaland is well clear. Mbappe needs to grow up quickly if he wants to be taken seriously.

Plus the soap opera he creates every time PSG get a penalty.

Mbappe is technically superior and has more to his game

However Haaland is just an even better natural goalscorer than him and in a team like City who creates an endless amount of chances he doesn't need to do any of the creative work Mbappe is tasked with

If this rivalry turns into a statfest like Messi/Ronaldo used to be then Haaland will win as long as he plays for City

Haaland can barely keep up with Julian Alvarez ffs.:lol::lol: Mbappe is the main guy in a team full of superstars - a completely different stratosphere.

Haaland fanboys are becoming worse than Ronaldo fans.

He really wasn't
There's at least 3 players who are brought up more often than him when discussing our best player at WC 2018 (Griezmann,Pogba,Kante)

I voted Mbappe, but with Haaland at City and Mbappe still at PSG, my money is definitely on Haaland now.
If City win the League and CL this season he'll get it already in 2023 unless Belgium wins the WC. The sad thing is that the chance of that happening has never been better (City winning both the PL and the CL that is).

Mbappe will get no respect from me while he plays in Ligue 1
