If he is making the bench next year, it makes the signing of VDB even weirder.

Absolutely fantastic news that a future Manchester United player signs a new deal!

I’m glad. Saw a piece in one of the fanzines a few months ago that we were in danger of losing him.

Ole said a few weeks ago that Hannibal was now involved with the first team, so hopefully he can grab some minutes soon and show his class.

Really promising time for young players at United.

When he first came here he didn't look that certain to make it and even now there could be some doubts about his fitness perhaps because you never know who turns out to be injury prone but hopefully he avoids injuries because he's got everything to succeed. Perfec United player, great combination with grit, talent and mentality. I bet he owuld have been already involved if he didn't get injured.

Expect him to make his debut at 10 before eventually refining his game and moving back to the 8 spot.
Nah, he’ll play left forward- number 10 would be too much for him at this stage. Also his best performances for the U23’s have been left forward!

He's only played at LW twice, it's a very small sample size.

VDB a 10 who can play 8, Mejbri an 8 who can play 10. I’d be surprised if he gets any real game time as part of the midfield two next year.
On paper maybe, but Ole has only used VDB as a pretty advanced 10, and in the U23s Mejbri definitely plays as an 8. Although I suppose when he first gets chances for the first team he might be considered too slight to muck in in midfield and start off as a 10 or wide AM so you may be right.

I don't think it would be too much for him. If McTominay can start off playing at CM without first team experience, Mejbri should be able to do it at least in that same capacity.

This is a club that let gibsons and pareiras play lots of games. When u see the freds james and the mctoms, you know he will be in first team soon if he can run around for 50-70 mins without falling over himself.

I can’t seem to find the length of the new deal.

Anyone knows how long the new deal is going to run for?

Pretty sure it’s more than two but he was outstanding there. I think it’s clear they moved him there with the thought of giving him first team minutes. Centre midfielder positions are notoriously hard for youngsters to break through at- especially the level we need

I would have thought that heads would have rolled somewhere in the club if the young man did not sign a long term deal after our huge outlay on the young man.
I think he looks like a really good prospect and hope he can make the transition to men’s football and serve the club for many years to come.

How did McTominay do it then? We persisted with him.

When I was reading the fact that our now departed "Super Scout" Mathieu Seckinger was instrumental in bringing Hannibal to the club and was 'in' with the family I did wonder if his leaving might loosen Hannibal's attachment to the club so its good to see him committing to the club. Is the timing a coincidence?

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
Great to hear that he's signed the contract. It's a shame that he got injured at the same time that our first team got all the injuries. He almost certainly would have got at least one or two appearances off the bench in this period.

McTominay is a physical monster though, and he was already 20 when he started getting appearances. That's not to say Hannibal can't go straight into midfield (in fact I hope he does), but it's quite likely he'll start off being played out wide.

Glad to see him get a new contract as it shows the club definitely believes he has what it takes and he's probably satisfied that he'll get his chance here too. It will be exciting when he can eventually make his debut. Hopefully this season sometime, but certainly next year if the timing doesn't work out. He definitely would have had a chance if he didn't have his recent injury.

He turned 18 recently, that’s all there is to it. If you click the link in the OP the URL says "February 2021" so this has most likely been in the wings for a while and presumably got delayed because of his injury.

I think the new DOF played a part in his initial signing?

Based on some news reports, it seems like we had to guarantee some kind of path to the first team, so I wonder what the plan is.

Hopefully we'll have top 4/2nd place shored up before the end of the season so we can see him get some first team minutes soon.

Such good news he's signed - we've got some serious talent coming through right now.

Seen him play just a few times but fallen in love with him. The treatment this lad gets from opposition players is a disgrace. The guy doesn't shy away. The boy is a warrior. With that talent and attitude, I can't imagine him not having a decent career at the very least.

Half the reason I want him in the first team as soon as, really. He's been targetted constantly since his promotion, the "tackles" that are thrown his way border on violence, at least in the PL the referees are card happy.

It certainly seems like our youth system is better managed than in the Mourinho era.

nice one. He’s a huge talent who seems to have the fighter mentality that was missing with Adnan and Pereira. I think he’s gonna be a star. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him loaned out a few times to refine him but he’s got a cracking chance of being a good player for us.
In the last 20 years help me remind of an outfield player who went on loan and came back becoming a great player for us? Sure they probably end up having a decent career but not able to find a permanent place in United or any other big team.

there is a reason for that and I always agree, if you are good enough, you are old enough!

A brave, bright, baller.

My under 23's player of the season so far...

I hope he continues to develop.
