Harry Amass | 2026/27 Performances

Amass has a lot of potential. It kind of feels like it's now or never. By the end of the season there'll be another outsiding candidate at LB so if he gets a chance I hope he gets a bit of luck and confidence and he starts producing something.

I think he's a good squad player. He's going to need a lot of games to develop but we have a lot of games. I think he's going to get a decent chance to break through

He was good on the offensive end but rather poor defensively, and that was against a League One-level opponent like Rosenborg. Personally don't think he's good enough for PL so unfortunately I don't think he'll make it here.
They’re not League One level ffs. They’re in the same league as Bodø Glimt, who beat several teams who were a lot better than United last year, City included.. and Bodø Glimt finished second in the league!

Why don’t you do your homework before rating a 19 year old academy player? Also Cubarsi, are you serious? M’beumo and Cunha must be shit, because they’re not as good as 19 year old Yamal:rolleyes:

Edit: Never mind, I missed the «positioning isn’t something you improve by experience» part. You’re joking, I’m just slow, sorry!

I think he could be good enough for the PL as a wingback, but his size and some tentative play in his own half seemed to get himself into unnecessary trouble defensively as a proper fullback. If we don't sign a fullback, then I guess he could get a chance here this season with Dorgu, Mazraoui, (Yoro the backup RB in this situation), Heaven and Lisandro as cover. But Shaw's inevitable injury could be a disaster if we wait another summer to buy his long-term replacement.

Grimaldo (same size, great offensively and not so much defensively) seemed to have his breakout season and become a really good player at 23 for Benfica, then sort of made another leap 4 or 5 years later. Fran Garcia was 3-4 years older than Amass too when he started playing in La Liga regularly. So Amass might have an awkward few years unless some club playing 3 at the back buys him. Probably worth a buyback clause, though, he has real talent offensively.

His assist was really nice. Very few fullbacks play the ball that quickly and assuredly into Zirkzee's path without taking an extra touch.

You're right, they might be worse than League One level. The Norwegian league is shite, don't get fooled by Bodo Glimt.

Promising cameo. Let’s hope that he gets a few more chances to impress because I’m worried about his contract expiring next summer without renewal. Renew it and get him a good loan

I haven't seen enough of him but I liked what I saw against Rosenborg. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being part of rotation (the contract is an issue though). He may have to extend his contract to get a spot in the rotation.

I guess you're norwegian. Enough said. Rosenborg is shite, even at a low level.
I am. So I guess you’re an American? Where I come from we don’t make grand stupid statements without knowing the facts:+1:

If you’d said Championship on the other hand..

You've taken it as a slight but put it this way a lot of the top end League One teams outspend Rosenborg. That's not the only factor but it gives good indication.

The Championship teams spend a fortune I think you're underestimating that level.

I didn’t. In the interest of good dicussion the dicourse should be genuine, and sought to be kept on a realistic level, is all I’m saying.

If you want to get into the discussion, the Norwegian league is producing and selling more talents for much more money than ever before. I live in Trondheim, I’m very aware RBK are shit, they’re below mid-level for the league. And I follow English fotball much closer than Norwegian fotball.

The fact is the top end of the Norwegian league is better than ever right now, and no league one team would stand a chance against Bodø or Viking. It’s certainly a better league at this point in time than the Swedish or Danish leagues.

My point was that the Championship is a better league overall, except for Bodø who would vipe the floor with the top teams in the Championship (maybe even Viking, but they are as of now untested at the international level).

Wouldn't mind him as a backup LB this season.
He shows enough promise.
I think he'd benefit a lot from putting some muscle on his upper body.
In other words...needs to bulk up.

Not surprising, you're Norwegian. Comparing it to The Championship, Jesus Christ you're out of touch. Also you're wrong, the Danish league, for example, is obviously much better but that's another discussion. The point still stands: The Norwegian league is shite and you can't take much from this game, even though Amass had a decent game.

Mate, try reading what I wrote? I keep saying the Championship is better, even in my original post.

Just because League one teams spend more money, it’s certainly not better than the Norwegian league, some guy even posted the opta rankings above, if you’re able to post on here, surely you’re able to read a list?:)

Self entitled expert on Norwegian football? Are you not fooled by Viking or Brann either?
Thank you!

edit: Anyway, back to the point, I really hope we give Amass a proper chance, him and Shaw should cover LB this season, and we’ll evaluate end of season. Players don’t develop if they aren’t playing!

Wum Norwegian. Focus on skiing because football is not your thing. Again, Amass had a good game but the opposition was worse than what he played against last season.
You got a problem with Norwegians or something? Weird behavior on a football forum. Get a grip.

Your posts are genuinely quite odd.

As physicality isn’t a natural part of his game I’m not surprised that there were instances when he would have issues in this regard. I think at times he was caught between his instincts which is to play his way out of trouble and being safe, which is understandable for a young player trying to impress.

He however showed what he can bring going forward and as I and others have said if we don’t buy a left back I can see him staying at least until Christmas. Would like to see him with the first choice 11.

Even if we buy another LB I can see him staying - he'd still likely see some domestic cup and sub appearances. The best thing we can do for Shaw is make sure he doesn't play too much.

With the majority of the team getting extended minutes last Saturday, I do think that Amass is being looked at as a candidate for the squad this year as cover on the left. My thought process is that this coming Saturday may be a more telling indication of that with the amount of minutes he possibly gets against a better quality opposition.

Shaw got through last season with no real injuries, looking at the league phase dates for the Champions League, we've got tough fixtures prior and after most games so whilst I'm comfortable with him as a back up, we need to see him step up against better teams so we could contemplate giving Shaw less multi game weeks, which may prove costly in terms of injuries.

I can see the benefit of integrating him into the team setup as soon as possible and fading Shaw out for sure. It would be nice to use Luke as a experienced option when necessary and hopefully Amass can make that happen and save us some money.

I think we still need to buy another senior left back so Shaw doesn't have to play twice a week, but keep Amass around to train with the first team and get minutes in the cups along with with sub appearances. Then we have cover if Shaw gets injured, but also have a low risk way of seeing if Amass is ready to take the step up. Shaw's contract is up next year so we'll need a new LB at some point soon anyway, even if Amass does prove himself.

I’d agree that ultimately we will need a new left back too as I think we won’t renew Shaws contract and to improve the level of the team. I do think though if Amass does do well enough then it might affect the calibre of the first team option we go for. I did actually suggest what you did too earlier in the thread and hope that there would be enough games to see his level without pressure even with a new left back. Think Dorgu is seen as an attacking player so that might influence things too.

I think we should always go for the best available long term option we can afford on the market, irrespective of how any academy prospect is doing. If we want to seriously compete in the PL and CL then we need the best possible players, and if Amass is good enough he'll compete with whoever we bring in. We keep getting burned by going for cheaper half measures (Malacia, Reguilon, Telles etc) and it costs us in the long run.

Looks like he's carrying fair bit of muscle

Not sure i understand the point of these kind of videos they putting out there. We see them quite often these days.
”Pro footballer trains football, and he is doing it shirtless to show he enters the gym quite often as well”
I would hope every player at the club is busting a gut to get ready for the new season.

Im a bit in two minds on your first point in that I believe we should go for quality players but I also believe good squad building allows you to create minutes for top prospects. When I mention Amass affecting future purchases it’s more in relation to how teams will potentially judge our need thus maybe the price too. If we have a first teamer rather than a prospect it might help in this regard. I’m not sure what left back is available at the moment though that we can afford and will be the quality to take us up a level.

Talk of sale or loan to Cov. A season there would make sense but I'd still rather keep him as playing-regularly back-up. Looks to me like there's a footballer in there, and it would be worth waiting a year or two to make sure I'm wrong. We have squad space for him right now.

He’s a very similar profile to Lewis Hall, just a couple of years behind. Neither are rapid, both have a short/stocky build and are highly technical and couple probably play midfield. With Dorgu and Mazraoui in the squad, we can probably afford to apply some patience and see what happens with Amass.

I think he and Lacey are going to be with us until January, will almost certainly get League Cup appearances and sub cameo's.
I think that would be sensible. Amass has looked good in the first couple of pre-season games and has a bit more experience of men's football after his loans last year.

I've liked the look of Kamason in those matches too. I wouldn't mind seeing him break into that category if he can keep those levels up for the rest of pre-season.

They do it because take a look at this thread, and the threads for any player under the age of 20? The tired and oft trotted out go-to phrase is "they need to bulk up". They can't think of an actual reason not to play the kid so it's "w-w-well they need to bulk up of course!". It's an attempt to alter the narrative. Why do you think Kai Rooney has been posting gym pics of him looking super jacked at 16? 'Cause they want to get in the squad and swaying the fanbase is part of that.

I don’t think he is ready and needs a loan rather than a season of not playing. But talk of the club being willing to sell him for £6m seems like a poor choice.

Can't see anyone willing to pay more than that. Only experience is really a few months at Wednesday.
He will probably go into this season behind
Shaw, New LB, Mazraoui , Dorgu and maybe even heaven so next to no chance of league minutes.

Sell now with a decent buy back/se on and it may be good business. Unless we extend his contract a loan would be more pointless.
