Harry Amass | 2026/27 Performances

A Championship loan would be ideal for him where he plays every week.

If we can sign Hall or another LB this summer, we are sorted for this season. And then next year when Shaw's contract ends, Amass and the new LB can be our options going forward.
 
If we're only going to get 6 million we might as well just loan him for a 1 million loan fee to the Championship. He's a player city or Chelsea would easily get 20 to 30 for in this market.
 
Every time I see him play he really does impress me. Why is he not rated? What am I missing?

His contract is up next year so wouldn't work. We fecked the contract up and clearly don't want to commit to one at this stage.

Safe to say that IF we sell him for that sum, the footballing powers that be at the club assess his potential as lower than a part of the Caf experts do.

Equally obvious, if they DON’T, they probably think his potential is higher than what a different part of the Caf experts think.

Chelsea sold Hutchenson £22m to Ipswich after two appearances, Maatsen £38m with 3 appearances, Lewis Hall £38m to Newcastle.

City sold Trafford for £20m with no appearances and Taylor Harwood bellis for £20m with no appearances too.
 
Contract situation, as it stands, completely rules out a loan in my view.

Felt like one that would come to a head this summer either with a new deal or a sale to get a fee, insert a sell on etc.

Young players aren’t always as patient these days. He perhaps wants to see there’s a path to the first team before committing, assuming the club want him to stay.

Chelsea got £28m+7 or so for Lewis Hall after I think 10 games of adult football. If we buy Hall for £70m and sell Amass for £6m, it would at least be a clear indicator that we don’t see him as the next Lewis Hall!

City have sold Trafford, Bazunu, Lavia and Delap for between £15-20m each after next to no playing time.
 
- Amass could leave the club during this window. Several Championship clubs have made approaches, with offers being discussed.
- One year left on his contract.
- United are said to prefer a permanent transfer, in the region of ~£6m.

Latest update from Laurie. I think someone in the Championship will bite at that price.

Amass only has a year left on his contract
 
We need to get much better at selling players and planning the squads properly. Not much we can do with a year left on the contract, but it needs addressing big time.

Might not be us, we might spend £70m on Hall who is no more talented than Amass. Amass will certainly prove £6m to be an absolute joke very quickly if we sell him.

Based on what? He's not of the quality required to progress us. We've hung onto average youth players far too often in the past.

My only gripe is £6m is low. Hopefully sell on % and buy back clauses are in place in case he does make a big jump.

He was one of our loud standouts in the youth teams along with Shea Lacey. In fact, I think Amass was our most standout player with Lacey injured. Was at one point in the u18s our best player as a leftback, which is crazy thing to say. If Amass can't get a chance as a leftback I feel bad for any future fullback because Amass set a very high bar to clear.

Who says he's not of the quality? He's a fantastic young player.

Jimmy Murphy player of the year.
Captained both Utd and England youth teams.
Cracking loan under difficult circumstances last season.
Even on the weekend he looked miles better than Shaw when he came on.

And he gets zero chance to break through in a position we are desperate for.

Appalling decision.

Hutchinson had been on loan at Ipswich for a season playing 50 games before they bought him, Maatsen had been on loan for 2 seasons in the Championship and a full season at Dortmund before being sold.

Trafford had played for 2 full seasons out on loan and Harwood-Bellis was on loan for 3 seasons then had a season on loan at Southampton before they bought him.

Hall is more similar to Amass, although went to Newcastle on a season long loan with a conditional obligation.

Amass currently has played half a season at Sheffield Wednesday, so a fee of £5-10 million is about right.

This was the context I was interested in. You add in the fact that he is on his last year, and the fee makes sense.
 
6m is or peanuts in this day and age. If we don’t rate and value our players, nobody else will.

To me, it’s pretty likely that the truth to why this article appeared is a bit more complicated. As you say, we are looking for left backs, and everyone at the club are very aware of Harry. He’s certainly not getting overlooked. What the factors are, I can mostly only guess at.

If he’s deemed not ready to start now, and won’t sign a renewal, it forces the club’s hand, loan is not an option with one year left on the contract. He/his advisors might want a big new contract, or with guarantees attached. The football people at the club might see him as a good professional but lacking in things needed to progress his potential, things that are less obvious to us. Reading the list of players who has become Jimmy Murphy POTY or captain for youth teams, you find a few big names and a whole lot of names most have forgotten about or maybe never even heard about.
Another side of it is that a club has to prioritise between prospects, which is a tough job. Giving Amass a bumper contract and 5-10 games in the league might not put a dent in the team’s goals for the season if he were the only one. But it will impact achievements if you do the same to Lacey, Gabriel, Thomson and Obi, and on top of a squad already having young players like Heaven, Yoro, Santos and Mainoo, and to a degree also Sesko and Amad, expected to have important roles.

Amass might have impressed more than Obi at our youth levels, and probably (certainly) more ready to carry weight for the team than Gabriel is. Amass might or might not be closer to his eventual ceiling now than they are, it’s hard to evaluate from outside, but if all of them wants ‘a clear path’ to the first team at the same time, someone’s got to give. Maybe Amass isn’t confident enough to thinknhe can force his way into the reckoning at United, or maybe he’s so confident hhat he thinks he can develop into a world beater no matter if he plays for Man Utd or Coventry. I wouldn’t know, I just think there are a lot of factors most of us fans don’t have a clue about, which are really important to consider in this scenario.

If he is refusing to sign a new contract I'd take back my stance entirely.

But I haven't seen anything to claim he is unwilling to sign a contract or wants some unreasonable bump.

I can only ever work with the information that is currently available. Of course if something later comes out which better explains a decision then I am happy to alter my opinion.

Didn’t realise he only had a year on his contract which means we either have to renew or sell. But either way if we only end up 6m for him that is a very poor return in this market.

Hopefully we renew his contract as be a shame to seen a promising young player be sold for a small fee.

He only had one that you could call successful.

Went on loan to Wednesday and played every match where he was very good.

Then went to Norwich in January where he got injury in training that ruled him out for the rest of the season.

I feel 6M without the full context is a bit misleading. Hopefully we have learnt to include some great buyback clauses etc. Other teams like Real Madrid does this very well.

Sell Amass and include a buyback clause for us for 10-15M. Then it is fantastic business. If he blows up we have all the upside and if he doesn't, it doesn't matter.
 
Bizarre stuff. Very promising, albeit with a period of injury, and young enough not to be causing a fuss about contract negotiations?

Why wouldn’t we renew?
 
Does he have injury problems or something? Why have we let his contract run down and selling him for peanuts?
