Harry Amass | 2026/27 Performances

6m seems derisory for a player who, in my memory, performed very well last year in an ailing Wednesday side

Best option for me would be new contract and decent loan if we can sign Hall.

Amass could work towards becoming the Shaw replacement to compete with the likes of Hall.

we've a net spend of about 30 odd million. I expect to see a couple coming in late on

Amass has a long way to go. He still looks physically underdeveloped next to his peers (Mbaye, Boly, Mayulu) talk less of Prem players

Amass is 19. By his age Shaw had already played 50+ times for Southampton and earned his move to United. He has a mountain to scale before he’ll ever be a suitable Shaw replacement in the league.

Wonder if we are considering keeping him now considering his continued involvement with the team and the lack of any concrete links to a new LB. Collyer has clearly been taken out of the picture ahead of a move and the same happened with Vitek so him getting another 30 minutes today is interesting.

Possibly. Difficult to judge at this stage though if that was because Mazraoui and Dalot were only ever going to play 45 mins today.

Might know more in a week.

didnt have a good game and his end product is lacking as much as switching off as a defender, but cut him some slack not everyone plays in the PL as a defender from 16 years of age. Amass had a good spell before he got injured and would certianly come back more confident and fresh if he finished season stronger not on a sideline. I think 6m for him is toom little, he will be a decen Championship/lower PL defender, but at this stage not many teams will give much more.

We should keep him as a cover until we buy Hall or another starter.

On reflection, Shaw should have been an absolute superstar because you’re right, he was fantastic at 18 and ready to kick on from that point.

He’s possibly a bad comparison for Amass though as that’s a bit unusual.

I’d like to see HA given a shot in cup and easier CL games and worst case it doesn’t work out and we move on, rather than shoehorning another Lb into the squad.

Today the problem certainly wasnt physicality, as much as that is true

When he had the ball to cross or shoot he didnt take the right care with it and wasted his chances. That was the issue.

At this stage any player just needs to be able to stay fit and run to replace Shaw.

I'd more than happy to see him stay as back up and get some game time. Watching him over pre-season he looks like a young G Nev, still a bit small for his age, does OK, but lacks a little confidence in himself and with all the rumours flying around about him being sold it's hard for him not to.

Like Wes Brown, Phil Jones and others before him, he possibly needs a run of games with no clangers to boost said confidence and self belief and we'll see a better version of what we are seeing now. The fact he's not gone, the fact our left back targets seem to be not for sale may mean he'll see a bit more time this season for us.

I'm all in on Hall, but it would be a shame to see us sell Amass for peanuts while spending 50m for Robinson.

If it wasn’t for the horrific injury then Shaw wouldn’t have had all the injury problems his career has been plagued and he’d have most likely been one of England’s finest ever left backs as he was incredible as a teenager, it’s a shame we’ve not seen what he should have been.
