I would rather say Williams optimized his early chances more.

Amass had a good first half today in my opinion, then showed his inexperience and soft underbelly in the second, in very inexperienced company must be added.

Defense is a vulnerable part of the field, though, you can’t afford to have a good half and an off half there.
 
The second half had him and Armer both 19 year olds going up against starting PL opposition for the first time, I'm gonna give both some slack. He does need a loan with a team that plays 4 atb, hopefully we can extend him and get him a loan. I'm sure the coaches are split on him, they see something they're probably just trying to figure out what's the best for the team and him

Grimaldo got his first cap for Spain at 28 after he was put in a position to succeed as a wingback by Xabi Alonso. Also 5'7. Just too easy to bypass and he doesn't seem to read the play exceptionally defensively. But obviously he has lots of good qualities going forward.

A 3/5 at the back in the Champo starting job or a backup job in the Prem seems like the optimal loan.

A wingback needs to go up and down the pitch all the time. Amass doesn't seem to have the physical tools to do that effectively.

He doesn't read the game good enough to make up for his athletic shortcomings. Looks neat on the ball, will find a place for himself but doubt this will be in EPL.
 
He is a kid nowhere near ready to play men's game in a league like PL
 
He really struggled to defend his area of the pitch yesterday. Leeds targeted our left flank the entire time Amass was on the pitch and created lots of chances from there.

Up until now, I thought we might as well keep him at the club as cover for Shaw. Since I don't watch the reserves, I was convinced by all the positive reports I'd heard about him at that level. But his inability to impose himself on the game against PL opposition was worrying ngl.

If this was remotely indicative of his overall level, I can understand why United want to sell, and even more why the asking price is only £6m.
 
He is promising I think, but true that Gnonto gave him real trouble getting in behind and Harry didn't seem to have the recovery pace to get back. On the ball he is quality.

He wasn't brilliant at SW. Perhaps people were impressed with his technical ability on the ball, but he was as much of a weak link defensively for them in the Champ as he appeared to be yesterday. People perhaps made excuses because he was playing at a struggling club, but I'd watched games where Champ teams targeted his side of the pitch and easily overran him. People on here didn't seem to want to listen though.

It is indicative of his level. I've watched him play numerous times in the Champ and at youth level.
 
West Ham in for him to replace Diouf per the Twitter thread.

I think that might appeal to him and gives us the chance for a buy back etc with his contract up next year.

I’d hope we do right by him if he gets such an opportunity and add 50% sell on and a low buy-back (to be negotiated higher if they pay a higher fee)
 
I remember United getting him from Barca's academy and hoping that he would become a player for the first team in the future. Unfortunately, United's style of transition football is not forgiving of players who don't have the pace and power to keep up in the EPL. He has to go.

We pinched Amass from Watford bub. Can understand the confusion, very similar parts of the world

Hmm. Must be age. I thought we signed Carerras from Real and Amass from Barca. Thanks for correcting my senility.

He must have a +1 option on his contract if he’s going out on loan. Otherwise it makes absolutely no sense. Even then I’m not sure what we’re going to learn about him from going to Preston that we didn’t already get from his loan spell at Sheff Weds.

He was linked with West Ham a couple of weeks ago if Diouf goes to Brentford. Guess we’ll see if anything comes of that in the next few days.

Could be permanent. The Diouf to Brentford could have a domino effect as West Ham reportedly want to replace him with Thierry Small from PNE.

Preston signed a LB on loan from Chelsea earlier today so it seems unlikely Amass would be going there now.
 
He was getting rinsed by faster and more physical players in pre-season. I like him on the ball, but lets see, you dont want him starting CL/PL games

Yep, that’s the issue and that’s why we were willing to let him go if we brought in another LB. He looks promising in the opponent’s half but trouble in our half.
 
Going to be tough emotionally for him. Punted out in the window and never got a move, and now going to sit on our bench occasionally knowing he’s really far down the pecking order.
Let’s hope he makes the most of the limited minutes he gets but pre season wasn’t great for him.
 
Not that would should be doing this in 2026 but keeping another body to offset some games to minimise Shaw's game time and decrease the likelihood of injury might not be the worst call. Who knows might impress in whatever minutes he's given and maybe that could drum up some proper interest and value for him?

I would be really, really surprised if he got any significant minutes this season. The problem is we have a lot of players that CAN play LB, and most likely all will be ahead of Amass in the pecking order. I doubt he gains anything by staying here. Especially that the club apparently wanted him sold, probably he isn't rated that high.
