Chuffed for him. Exactly what he needed. Unlucky not to get a second after I think it was Shelvey cleared it off the line.

I watched parts of the game. Not paying £15 to watch this!

he might not have been perfect, but it showed some mental toughness to be out there today and putting in a shift. Especially after going 1-0 down.

that goal will do him the world of good. I’m so pleased for him.

A proper United captain. Happy for him. Hopefully can get back to being solid and the injury can clear up.

Been given a massive amount of stick so fair fecking play to him, deserves credit for reacting so well. Not a lot wrong with his performance today and the header was quality, in fact was unlucky not to grab a couple more on the night.

According to a caf resident expert over here, he expected Maguire to be exposed by Callum Wilson.

Next week I ll ask this resident caftards Nostradamus for the next winning lotto numbers.:)

Aside from his performance he has the balls and personality to put his self out there and show leadership. People say he’s a shit captain but he’s got a lot of bravery and he’s a tough lad. Great display tonight

Firstly brilliant, brave and absolutely correct decision by Ole to back his captain. So many 'experts' on the cafe saying Maguire needed protecting, had mental health issues or was finished at top level football. But our manager took the hard call and was proved to be 100% correct.

Secondly, Top level performance from Maguire. He marshalled his defence, was a calming influence to get the team back into the game, was a massive threat at corners with several attempts on goal and scored one too, and got through 90 minutes without any mistakes.

Chuffed to bits for him. Hope he can quickly build on this, and put the last few months firmly behind him.

He is a good player and one who I believe will be good for us for the next 4-6 years.

He is not bad or average, neither is he very good or great, but still good and our best defender. I am more willing to look past his recent bad form or errors he makes from time to time for several reasons:

- Every defender will get exposed when let down by the midfield/attack.

- He at least looks like he cares and looks distraught when we play badly

- There are hardly any defenders around at other clubs who are regularly great

- Our alternative defenders are either not good enough, inexperienced (Mengi) or injury prone. And this has been the case for almost a decade now. Apart from Smalling (who was decent to good over the years for us, but nothing special) we didn’t have a good, reliable and injury free defender or even fullback for ages.

- Even in Fergie’s last 2-3 seasons the defence was getting old and injury prone and made some hilarious mistakes from time to time. All of them! Though thankfully mostly not at the same time.

So considering a lack of quality CBs / defenders in general and especially at United over the years I am fine with Maguire.
And yes we overpaid for him, but taking into account high transfer fees for PL players Leicester were never going to sell an established PL player who is an England regular for less than 50 - 55 million. So we basically overpaid by 25-30 million. Not a good business, but won’t matter much if we can get mostly good performances out of him for a few years.

He was quality today. He’s limited, can’t move much but he’s a good player. Think he’ll be crucial for us

Ok, credit when it’s due. In this particular game he played well and scored an excellent header, well done.

He hasn't even been that bad compared to Lindelof, who btw did another huge mistake costing us yet another goal today. Maguire has been off form but the hysteria has been way over the top.

A timely shot in the arm for him with some big games coming up. Couldn’t have gone much better for him so nice to see he was comfortable to go out and play and Ole was confident to stick with his captain (at a time when Ole is far from secure).

Hopefully this was the confidence booster he needed before a tough run of fixtures.

Focused and seemed to turn the confidence tap on, hopefully this is him turning a corner. Good header for his goal as well.

No one mentioned his awful marking that lead to DDG world class save? 2-0 down, that would be a mountain task to crawl back.
Still. He overall had a good game.

A captain's game and was hoping his effort on goal would go in and it was a close call too. Happy for him and good on Ole to keep faith in him.

Good solid bounce back. But did anyone find the goal celebration weird? He mean mugged it and pretty much nobody ran over to celebrate? I thought it was bizarre.

I have given Maguire a fair bit of stick lately. Fair play to him, stood up to be counted today. Even if we are still too vulnerable to balls into the box.

Huge mistake leading to goal :D That’s a good one. The price of trying to win back the ball early is that you fail sometimes. Anyway, the situation was like 15 sec before the unlucky own goal from Shaw.

Huge performance from him given the intense scrutiny around him.

Was hardly a defensive masterclass as Newcastle looked as impotent in the final third. But the goal and how he carried himself was hopefully a defining moment in him turning his season around and kicking on.

At least he didn’t do his cnut chest-out-arms-on-waist captain marvel goal celebration. Good start.

Was 1-1 when that happened. He definitely should have done better, although he's having to mark both Joelinton and Wilson there with Lindelof pulled out wide and Shaw at the back post so I can see why he's not perfectly stuck to Wilson. Also, as good of a dribbler as ASM is, unacceptable by Lindelof and McTominay to both commit themselves to him and allow him to get a cross off.

Honestly I would have rested him, well done to Ole and Harry for making the braver choice today and showing some mental strength.
Taking him out of the spotlight would have seemed like a reasonable thing to do.

Ole obviously had a word with him and felt he was good to start. Good call from Ole as that performance will have given Maguire some much needed confidence.
