I’ve supportee Utd and Madrid for the last 20 years or so - please take it from me that Ramos is not the answer
He is to blame because he headed it to the danger area. He should have headed it to the far side or even behind for a corner.I see a lot of blame on him for the goal. He’s not at fault. Martial was supposed to be covering but he just ran towards the ball and left his man.
but overall, maguire is not a leader at the back. The responsibility is too much. Sign ramos and let him benefit from a proper leader next to him
Spot on. Bailly and calming should not be in the same sentence.Bailly is the opposite of a calming influence.
True. And with DeGea, Lindelof and AWB our aerial defending is non existent. That's true, however I can see why we want to avoid set pieces at all cost with De Gea in goal. It was a difficult ball to clear to be honest.
He made it more awkward than it needed to be by trying to head it in that direction. Head it back the way it came and he easily clears the box.Not every defensive header can get out of the box and that was an awkward one.
So shouting makes a good captain?
What was he thinking? He is an idiot. We're blessed this wasn't looked at because it's a blatant penalty and arguably a red card...

Poor quality videos / angles like this don't help at all, he didn't connect with his elbow - but this is the only clip you'll see being widely shared on social media to fuel peoples agendas. He is an idiot. We're blessed this wasn't looked at because it's a blatant penalty and arguably a red card...

I don’t think heading it back the way it came was possible. He was stretching for it and couldn’t get a full head on it.With hindsight, the best option would probably have been to head it backwards and out for another corner. However, in all honesty, I’m more concerned that ASM was standing on his own in the box. I haven’t watched it back but how did that happen? He made it more awkward than it needed to be by trying to head it in that direction. Head it back the way it came and he easily clears the box.
Yeah, the marking in the box was as bad as it always is too. We have massive organisational issues and players that clearly just don’t want to defend that much.I don’t think heading it back the way it came was possible. I think he could potentially have headed it back the way it came, just misjudged it a bit... its a weird one, he looks like he's both stretching, but also not stretching at all!?I don’t think heading it back the way it came was possible. Rawkish in the extreme.Poor quality videos / angles like this don't help at all, he didn't connect with his elbow - but this is the only clip you'll see being widely shared on social media to fuel peoples agendas.
Well the alternative is that - in the era of VAR - Maguire blatantly elbowed someone in the face but the officials decided he’s allowed to do that.Rawkish in the extreme.
"He didn't connect with the elbow."
We were really, really lucky there. He is an idiot. We're blessed this wasn't looked at because it's a blatant penalty and arguably a red card...

Whats Rawkish is this concept that he elbowed him in the first place. He never did.Rawkish in the extreme.

It’s so depressing that we’ve got to a stage where United fans would rather shit on their club captain than give him the benefit of any doubt.
Oh come on, I like him and I rate him as high as anyone can, but you can't clear a cross like he did straight in the danger zone, in front of goal. It's a mistake that on a good day he does not make, luckily didn't cost us the game.Tweet

And still he gets shit. Literally cannot win in the eyes of some fans.
As usual Maguire missed the target.
It’s only a “mistake” if we’re absolutely determined to find a reason to blame him. He got slightly under the cross and couldn’t get the power and direction on the header he would have liked. Which happens. At least he got his head to the fecking ball. By far the more obvious issue in that sequence of events was Newcastle’s biggest attacking threat getting to a dropping ball, deep inside our box, completely unchallenged. It does happen, the thing that disappoints me is that I think he better than that and it was evident that he missed the ball, not clearing it like he wanted to. I think it was Fred that was the closest to the drop ball, and should have been tighter to the scorer. It’s only a “mistake” if we’re absolutely determined to find a reason to blame him. For me the stats sum up the positive part of his performance in this match. He did heaps of good things. He was very active both in terms of defending, passing and building up our attack. He was a giant in the air. He is normally active but thought he was more active than normal. But he also had some poor moments, misplaced passes and mistakes. Also more than normal.Tweet

Yes.So shouting makes a good captain?
Looks like you know more than professional coaches.Yes.
Maguire is good at winning headers but accuracy is not his thing. He should definitely have scored again yesterday by the way, had pretty much a free header.
I feel like the harder the headed chance is for him, the more likely he is to get it on target/score it!
