This is the Brexit I voted for

He actually used to dribble out from the back a lot more than he has done during his time here. Especially at Hull.

I remember one game for Hull against us, he was constantly driving the ball forwards, and I don't think I had seen him play before so I was gobsmacked. I couldn't believe Leicester had a free run at him, and I wasn't surprised when Pep wanted him at City.
It was a cup game during the Mourinho tenure, Maguire was playing center half but running the whole show. I can remember that performance, it was the first time I saw him play.

Yeah, it was definitely under José at Old Trafford. 2016, I think. I think José became a fan of his that night as well and wanted to sign him before we actually did.

I expect everyone watching was thinking "What the hell is he doing?" till he pulled that cross off.

What a guy, so happy for him to be getting lots of love and memes of the good kind!

Should start the final over de Ligt as CCB. though I am a huge fan of Matta. If Amad plays RWB, Mazraoui should be the RCB.

I really like Maguire. He was mocked for years for things that weren't even his fault half the time, purely because people online felt they needed a meme player to joke about. He's obviously had some bad performances and has weaknesses but he's also been very good for us more often than not, and he's a beast in the air.

Seeing him improving now in this system and having the confidence to dribble down the RW and send in a peach of a cross is awesome to see. He's come up with some big moments this season.

Also he just seems like a lovely guy. Always speaks well. Very happy for him.

Exactly this.

He never once came out and said anything negative, during the bad moments, put his head down instead of crying.

He got the captaincy taken away from him and still continued to be the leader and trying his best for the club.

We need that kind of mentality, we saw him yesterday use his experience and talk to Lindelof and even Hojlund.

He has been mocked by too many people over the years and I am so happy to see him get these moments.

His resurgence is definitely credit to Amorim.

More to do with the system. Maguire has always played well for England with a back 3. It takes less pressure off him defensively. This is why scouting players properly is essential. So many factors need to be considered when signing a player. United have a tendency to sign players and expect them to work in any system.

Interestingly, alot of fans over the last weeks have been claiming that Amorim;s system does not suit our players?

Since he has taken over, Maguire, Bruno, Amad have looked better than in the last 2 years... Mazroui can play anywhere

The players people have been moaning about, Garnacho, Mainoo, Hojlund, Dalot etc.. have never been consistent regardless of system.

I'm sorry for saying he should start up front.

He should start on the right. Dribbling like no other

It's hard not to like the guy at this stage. His redemption story should be studied. Well done Harry

Some players will benefit from a system change, others won’t. I’m not sure we should play a back 3 just because it suits a 32 year old defender with a year left on his contract but that’s another conversation.

He was in 21/22. He was truly awful that season, and there's a reason that so many memes were made about him then. He just made so, so, so many stupid mistakes and was constantly putting us under pressure.

22/23 he improved a bit but was still fairly poor, but these last two seasons he's stepped back up and has been good again. Full credit to him for it, as most players probably wouldn't have been able to recover from the public humiliation that he did suffer during his bad period.
He was made the scapegoat because Lindelof wasn’t doing any defending and Maguire had to cover for both of them.

Lindelof is one of our worst signings ever. The fact that he survived for 8 seasons with us is damning.

Lindelof was comfortably better than him in both those seasons (21/22 and 22/23). Indeed they only started together in 21 of the 76 PL games over those two seasons, so blaming Lindelof for Maguire's shit form is a bit ridiculous. If anything I'd say it was his combination with De Gea that looked the shakiest, as there were numerous times that the two of them made things difficult for each other or were on different wavelengths.

Lindelof has been very poor these last two seasons, but he was decent enough in the few seasons before that (for a squad player level, not a starter).

Yeah, he hasn't been great at all at the back this season. But credit where it's due, he's come in big moments this season. I also liked his interview after the game.

I am totally convinced most, if not all, of the mocking and ridicule regarding him would not be an issue in the first place if he were bought for 40m instead of 80. We paid over the top for him which is not his fault, but somehow he got the sticks for it.

I dont think we were ever linked to him while he was at Hull despite that performance against us. I just recall some rumors Mourinho wanted him when he was at Leicester, but then again maybe Mourinho did and our scouts/decision makers said No.

Almost everyone on here wasn't too happy when he said he wants to stay and fight for his place when he was 4th/5th choice. But his attitude and work ethic through the whole thing has been exemplary. He's proven a lot of folk wrong, myself included.

People should nto be surprised. he's actually very decent dribbler out from the back and for his body, very good under pressure unlike Lindelof who rather passes sideways. He can faint it really well. Would be great if we could keep him till his retirement, he's a great servant and weapon at both ends at set pieces, can hit a long one too and now acomplished winger.

Don't rewrite history. He wasn't mocked for things that weren't his fault or "purely because people online felt they needed a meme player to joke about". He was very error prone and made a number of stupid comments in the media.

Having said that he has turned things around for himself by sorting his game out and putting in some good performances. That fact that people are willing to give credit where it's due is proof that there never was an agenda against him. People get pissed off with players when they play shite, and love them when they play well. Simple as that.

He absolutely was. We’d sometimes concede a goal that was more on the keeper or another defender but it would always get twisted by people saying ‘lol Maguire’. Maybe not as much on here but other places online. He was a running joke on Reddit and Twitter for years.

He really wasn’t. Lindelof was doing his classic pretending to defend and letting his partner clean up his mistakes.

He’s a fraud of a defender throughout his time with us.
