Was overall ok.

His distribution was not the best, as he relied too many times on Shaw, who were poorer than him.

He's still here for one year, and I hope that we'll have another CB this summer so Yoro-De Ligt and the new CB can play ahead of him.

Nevertheless, he was better than Shaw yesterday

He was more concerned with fighting with Romero than winning a trophy. Get rid - but he stays every year and makes the same mistakes.

He's decent passing through the lines but no argument about the rest. Not good enough but far from a serious culprit last night
No he isn’t. Every pass goes wide to a full back or a centre back. Usually direct to their feet or slightly behind them ruining any forward momentum. Usually after taking 7 or 8 touches before he makes his mind up.

We're not great at showing for him in that area but he does have it in his locker. Agreed with him being ponderous on the ball though

Spot on, on a night when we needed leadership none of them showed up. Maguire was being petulant and distracted, Bruno petulant, frantic and basically shite. Onana looked like he was going to have nervous breakdown from minute one. Casemiro was the only one who looked like he was holding it together.

Can't believe people are willing to give him a free pass after last night, stupid mistake to let Johnson in, stupid not to attack the ball for the goal, slow on the ball, allowed Romero to bully him and his falling over in their box was pathetic.

A player that sums up the mediocrity at the club, how we are still looking at him and Shaw in a back line is beyond me.

There's an obsession on here to make out like he's had an amazing season. He's had some big moments but he's so poor defensively.

Yep - they played right into Spurs hands. Broke all our momentum because of petty fighting and the ref having to stop the game constantly. I don't know how experienced players like this can't see how it hurts our own team. Casemiro got his head down and did everything he could to push us on.

Yeah, Maguire was constantly getting involved in arguments, wasting valuable time and playing right into Spurs hands.

How this guy gets free pass week after week? Onana, Mount and Hojlund are slaughtered for their performance yesterday (rightly so) but Maguire, who did biggest part in their goal, "did Ok"?

That was cross on first post. Maguire SHOULD have been on that goal. But he didn't because he is slow. Happens week after week. But he scores a goal then and there so people forget these things.

I think we're always going to be shite for as long as he's in the center of our defence. We cannot get enough players high up the pitch and control games with such a slow, clumsy defender. It's imperative we have a back line with recovery pace to play high and push the whole team up

He's supposed to be an elder statesman of the team, a vice captain and all he was interested in doing was having shouting and shoulder battles with Romero. An idiot.

I can’t see Utd getting rid, given how low a fee would be. Already losing Lindelof and Evans, and Martinez with a long term injury.

If Amorim plays 3 centre-backs, he ll want to start the season with at least 5 due to suspension/injury.

I thought he was fine. Some really good challenges, dominant in the air. Not one bit arsed about him giving Romero some shit. That lad needs more than a few words. Horrible player. More annoyed at Dalot giving him a hug at the end of the game.

One of the players who won’t take us forward, but will play as the manager likes his attitude and he’s pulled him out of the shite a few times, so feels a debt of gratitude to him..

i mean it was a tough game to judge because spurs didnt even bother going forward after getting their goal. So not much really for the backline to do after that.

Have we actually triggered the option for an extra year? Can’t remember if we did.

Edit- I looked it up. We have. Been pretty decent for us this season so probably least concern.

Honestly, just numb to what's happening to the club these days. This guy can't defend, his performance in the final was disgraceful. Backed out of the header for the goal (always does this for no reason). Kept giving fouls away, lost momentum while constantly arguing with their players. Got easily done early in the first half.

But the usual nonsense, 'Oh Harry is the least of our problems'. Onana, Maguire and Hojland are so far of it and until they leave, we'll continue to be horrendous.

I agree. His basics of defending are awful, he has steadily declined since he joined. He was meant to be VVD figure who could command our defense. He is a core part of our problems.

We were being bullied all over the pitch. 22 fouls to our 10 or something like that. They were intentionally rattling us and digging at us. Someone needed to fight back. I dont see how putting up a fight is a negative these days

Exactly. Fed up of these players getting bullied all over the pitch. Led by the captain whining and rolling around pretending he's injured at the slightest touch.

Another year as a backup CB. That's fine. He just had to be a backup. The rascal keeps getting back in as a starter one way or another.

Fighting with them is exactly what they wanted - fractured the game, wasted time and stopped any momentum. It's not a fight - its a game of football, they were better served working out how they could score and what positions to take up in the last 30mins.

Play smarter, not harder.

Its not tiddlywinks. If the other team are kicking the sht out of you then you dont turn the other cheek. You go to fking war. Have you never seen Keane etc? It wasnt fractured because we were fighting back. It was fractured because we weren't fighting back enough. I guarntee you if Keane was on the pitch he would have lost his fkn shit. Took out a few players, got into numerous arguments and the rest of the players would have joined in.

He hasn't, though. He's come up with some big moments, but ultimately, he's been poor at the back barring a-few games. I can't believe he's still going to be here going into the 25/26 season.

It feels like Maguire has stayed the same level for most of his time at the club - a good defender, but not elite. Whenever we have a better team near the top of the league and want to be a better team, he's not good enough. Whenever we have a struggling team, he looks good, because he's better than a struggling team, but not good enough to be elite. His stock goes up and down depending on how the team is doing because he's a reliable player at a certain level. But it's not shocking, for example, that he's not in the England squad.

Absolute nonsense - it wasn't some all our war fighting all over the pitch - Casemiro and Dorgu were flying in with tackles. However, the silly shoving matches by Maguire and petulance from Bruno were just silly and naive when we were chasing the game. Being 1-0 down, picking up silly yellows and getting into shoving matches is exactly how to throw the game away. We lacked quality, not fight.

Romeo played Maguire like a fiddle - even after the game was over - that's how distracted he was.

Maguire was only guilty of being a pussy. Romero deserved his dues, Maguire was being too nice or tried something that obviously wasn't in his nature. None of our players actually get any respect from opposition and it's evident in every game we play.

Exactly. No problems with showing some fight and giving some back, but not when we are chasing the game and trying to build pressure.

Man Utd 2:0 Aston Villa New
Lucky didn't cause a goal with that header (obviously keeper's fault too) He cannot be a starter next season. Makes them silly mistakes far too often.

He keeps gifting the ball under no pressure. If he's a starter next season, United will concede more than 50 goals again.

Oh come on. Keeper collects that as any keeper should do and it's an incident you never ever think about ever again.

Exactly. If you can't trust a keeper with that header back, then one might as well call any back pass a defender's fault.

There were a few headers where he was just heading it to them with no little pressure. Heading is supposed to be his strongest attribute yet he always puts headers back in the dangerous areas and I’m not talking about the Goalkeeper error.

He is not good enough its so obvious

Not to mention being scared to cut out yet another ball into the box without checking what was happening behind him.

Yeah I thought that wasn’t a great header back but the blame was on the keeper (we sure can pick ‘em)

He’s a good squad option but I wouldn’t want him starting as centre back next season. Even when he’s solid you almost worry a mistake is just around the corner

Surprised by the reaction. Thought he won everything aerially, played some really nice passes, the headed pass to Bayandir should've been better but that's really on the keeper. He could've easily just cleared it.

Think he's better than De Ligt as a starter next season.

Agree. Was dominant again.

He is pretty average and error prone. His lack of pace also means that our line is much farther back than it should be. I would sell if a decent offer came in.
