Some beautiful passing from Harry today, looked class on the ball the majority of the game.

Maguire has bought back the long diagonal pass out to the left this preseason, which was always his trademark pass. For some reason he rarely used it last season so I'm happy to see it back. His passing through the lines was also very good today, and just in general he looked good (although I missed the first five minutes where they were apparently on top).

Seems to be improving with age. He was very rash in his own way when he came here and quite unlucky too at times but he's really settled into a very solid player and clearly a leader on the pitch. I like him a lot. The first defender on the teamsheet for me these days

An excellent performance, at least after getting caught a bit too high up the pitch on the play that led to the PSG goal. There's no need to rush De Ligt back or push Heaven faster to develop into a truly top CB.

Really evolved into a proper leader during his time, really didn't think I'd become as big of a fan of his as I have.

Been a very good servant of the club

Honestly one of his worst games for us despite scoring. Beat on the ground for the first goal, beat in the air for the 3rd goal and charging into the opponent's half without doing anything helpful on the 4th goal.

He does very well with his own goal and had a nice shot. But defensively he made a lot of mistakes

Harry was replaced

Stayed despite knowing his time at the club was done.

Caught a break with key injuries.

Had a swan song season.

Anyone with ambition would realize he can’t be our starter this season. Unfortunately it’s still the “central midfield transfer window” so we’re not allowed to contemplate addressing that gap.

This is generally what he does in terms of making mistakes defensively, including last season's.

It's just that the dramatic goals he's scored in recent seasons seemed to have inflated his actual performances as a defender to some of the fanbase who seem happy that he was staying.

Tbf he is third choice CB with two big talents coming from behind as well. Seeing as he has complementary skills and experience and is judged to be a good influence in the dressing room, a good mentor for Heaven and Yoro, he is probably a quite perfect fifth CB in a two CB system. Tbh I’m more worried about Tyler Fletcher playing CM or Amass palying LB (or Shaw), so it makes sense spending there first.

Harry had a shit game today, but he has been consistently quite good for a long while now, so that’s not where I’m going to start worrying.

Yeah I do agree that he was under par last season with his straight defending. And the goals mask that

Not good enough on the first goal. But then probably our best player going forward after the goals. Bizarre performance

That left-footed attempt when he had two teammates free in the penalty area.

He has a massive ego for such a mediocre footballer.

I’d like to see us go with Yoro and Heaven with the team pushed higher up the pitch. Won’t happen though

I'd rather sell him than use him as an emergency striker, (other than in the most extreme cases), it's embarrassing.

But for me he the best passer today, and probably offered the most attacking threat.

I personally found his performance frustrating. His main job in the team is to defend but he barely did any of that. For some reason he seemed to think he was Rodri today and kept trying to take things into his own hands as if we don’t have other players for that.

Too often he holds onto the ball or waives off midfielders to try and do the things that aren’t his responsibility. It worked more than it normally would today but that type of overconfidence is crazy and better be a one off. Was absolutely crazy when he waived off Tielemans to go on a stupid run vacating his position only to give it away with a poor pass leading to a counter.

Get the ball and give it up. I can’t imagine a Maguire level defender attempting all the things he did today in a Pep side, he’d be hooked off.

He's just not a very good defender. De Ligt is sorely missed but I'd also rather see Yoro ahead of him.

He did what he could in both boxes but him being given the licence to attack freely was strange. There were a few situations/lose balls where i think a player with a bit more agility/attacking experience might've been able to make something happen.

Biggest attacking threat we had in a team that spent 200+ million last summer.

Maybe I need to rewatch but I thought heaven was at fault for the first, not Maguire?

Maguire literally was marking Maz while Ajayi was scoring deflection.
I thought Maguire was attacking the cross but got caught under the ball. I thought heaven was closer to the man. But, as I said, maybe I need to watch it again. It all happened rather quickly!

Defending was a bit suspect first half but 2nd half he was the best midfielder and the best forward we had.

But it's ok, he was our best midfielder or striker or something. Plus we haven't seen him doing these dumb things for years and years

reminds me of the time he held shaw back against Liverpool.

I didn't mind him doing that in the absence of anyone else doing it. The onus should be on the midfielders to take that responsibility off him, but I do agree that his defending needs to be a lot better.

Conceding two so easily off set pieces shouldn't be happening when you've got experienced defenders like Maguire and Shaw in the team. The organisation was non-existent and we should be a lot more commanding in those situations with centre backs like Maguire and Heaven on the pitch. Heaven unfortunately doesn't really have the aerial presence for a player of his size but Maguire didn't set a great example either today.
