I dont think Maz would have stopped the goal but it goes in the list of weird Maguire moments

Maguire has his uses as he showed last season when we needed him but starting the new season with him is depressing. I pray De Ligt returns soon and stays injury free but I’m sure I’ll be left disappointed.
Him and Shaw Him have been consistent problems in the same types of games for years and people still rate them. They’re good to have in a low block, that’s about it.
Probably our best defender today, plus the goal so a good day all in all for him.
He feels more valuable to us in the attacking phases than he does defensively a lot of the time. He'll keep his place in the team for his aerial proficiency, but there are a lot of defensive deficiencies. I want to see better from him.
We should not be going through another season with Maguire being a fixture in this team. I think he has value around the squad, but he’s not a top class defender, not even an international and also - frankly scares me with his style. He seems to get away with quite literally throwing his man all over the place every game, and one day - he won’t.
Carrick doesn’t seem to fancy Yoro. We need to play him more this season, or sell him. He isn’t a right back, he’s a talented centre half, but if Carrick doesn’t have the patience to give him the minutes he clearly needs - then he will never become what we need him to be. We have a £60m young centre half we invested in for the future, but the financial investment is just the first part. Minutes need to be invested, and in two full seasons, Yoro can probably count on one hand how many games he has started in a central defensive partnership.

I think he's fine. Most teams seem bad defensively these days. Liverpool, Chelsea, city are all pretty weak. It's only arsenal who are decent, and they play with CBs at full back and two defensive minded defenders to achieve that.
Other teams are just better at attacking these days and rule changes favour attackers. Maguire is fine imo, probably the best CB we have if you take into account availability.
He's too sloppy on possession. He needs to improve that and trying to retain possession more when we are leading the scoreline.

He’s been abysmal this year. Carrick needs to have some balls and start one of the young CB’s and take the lumps because it’s not like Maguire is a beacon of safety.

Been saying it all summer, we’re not going anywhere if he’s starting for us. For all the praise he gets for his passing, he sure does seem to give it straight to the oppossition a ton. Go look at Everton’s first goal today.

Not started the season well, our whole back 4 today should be rotation players at best but we’re reliant on them all as starters.

Yeah, been saying it for a while, I’d much rather play the young ones and let them make mistakes, which while being frustrating would be expected and needed for their age and experience.

The number of chances (and goals) he's given up since pre-season because of his bizarre predeliction to follow his man hugely out of position is just unforgiveable for a seasoned pro. The upside is maybe you make a good tackle and win the ball, but the downside is what we've seen - leaving Martinez and the FBs completely outnumbered.
It's just so stupid, if his man runs 15 yards back towards the halfway line, or out towards the byline, just let them go. You're the CB. And you're supposedly the defensive leader.

I’ll always respect his professionalism but it’s seriously time to move on
We're the most tolerant top team in football by an absolute mile. If a player is a top professional and keeps his head down and stays out the way, you can earn yourself a long stay here. Your actual level as a footballer is secondary.

Embarrassing last 10 mins + stoppage time. After falling out with Enzo and both getting booked he was constantly looking for excuses, arguing with the ref slowing down the game and giving away freekicks on our set pieces.
In a game that had Enzo Fernandez, he managed to be more cnutish and unlikable than him.

Completely unnecessary to play him vs 10 men when our line is so high. We're so open to anything in behind because of his glacial pace and City fed off that with Haaland and Semenyo everytime to relieve pressure.

This is a point I’ve raised many times recently, same with Dalot & Shaw, they are used to making mistakes and losing because of it, they’re numb to it, we need to blood the younger players in and let them make mistakes this season and actually learn from them.
Frustratingly bad with his clearances and passing from out the back. However, I've already accepted and can't complain too much. It's the club fault that he's still playing as our 1st choice and just our sheer luck de Ligt has been out for a year.
