I think we may now have to accept we may not get most of our 1st, 2nd & 3rd choice this summer. We are simply not an attractive place for most of our “reported” targets.

Haaland - joined City
Tchouameni - joined Real
Nunez - joined Liverpool
Kamara - joined Villa
Bissouma - joined Spur

Ebiowei - about to join Crystal Palace
Enzo Fernandez - about to join Benfica
Timber - prefer to stay at Ajax

FDJ - our no.1 target, doesn’t want to leave Barca though, we can’t match Barca asking price yet
Antony - Ajax doesn’t wish to sell and sets high price tag
Eriksen - prefer to stay at London as reported
Martinez - still at early stage, Arsenal is reportedly interested
We were in for Haaland, that is for certain but if Real couldn't sway Mbappe away from a state funded club I don't think it is reasonable to expect us to compete with an even bigger state funded club.
I have seen only reputable links for FDJ, Antony, Timber and Eriksen out of your list. Rest is just speculation and guessing.

Based on your post apparently we can't even compete against the likes of mighty villa.

So have we signed at least 6 of the 12 or something players Ralf „advised“ us to do?

You need to equip him with enough players to be able to implement his style of play.
Let’s put it in simple terms; are you not excited by the coach we’ve appointed? All the other stuff is secondary and will come in time.

it’s like saying;

aaaggghhh this lottery mega rollover sucks! It’s not exciting at all!!
But you haven’t bought a ticket…

Posted it in the de Jong thread. It probably belongs here.

So that’s literally one month gone since the season finished. Out of 74 days between the last and new season 30 days are over which means 40% of the time is gone. In this one month, we have bought ZERO players and have sold ZERO players.

Meanwhile Liverpool have concluded their transfer business, City are up and running and competed probably the biggest signing of the summer. Spurs have completed half of their activity and Arsenal too have signed 3 new players whereas us now have 44 days left before the new season starts where we have to do our all transfer activity buying and selling.

Not only that our pre season starts in 5 days without any new players as it stands. But don’t worry, it’s only June and the transfer window has opened only a few weeks back.
Yeah fear if we sign any new players they are going to be proper undercooked for start of the new season

I just don't know who really believed, or rather, still believes we'll get 4-5 players. Maybe we get FDJ and possibly one more player for the starting 11. Everything besides that is bull shit like every summer. Even a blind man can see we are desperate for getting the DM and this will be another summer we won't get one
Yeah I can see max of two starting XI players too because can't sell anyone to fund another couple of deals.

Hopefully De Jong is simply the flagship transfer drawing everyone's attention at the moment, and we're stealthily progressing talks behind the scenes with our other key acquisitions for the summer. Believe.

For God's sake please give Murtough some time. He's been working everyday from 6 am till 10pm. Surely he'll soon figure out how transfers work.
No way this is true. No one at Man United works after dark. It's scary driving home at night.

This is immense

How does somebody work those hours? Especially in such a position of management! Is he doing literally every single thing himself? Does he have admin? How long are his breaks? Does he play haxball in between, and during, his MS Teams meetings? so many questions

A club with players, coaches and executives leaving in their droves.

Imagine how that looks to any player looking to come in? Then look at the squad. Harry Maguire as your captain. A genuinely non-existant midfield. We have two players there, both are wank. A geriatric superstar up front doing his best "Spiderman saving the train" impression, God bless him. An influencer on one wing and Sancho on the other.

No Champions League. Presumably purse strings are gonna be tightened too so the mega-wages aren't even there to tempt the most mercenary of cnuts (which is good).

Why the feck would you come to United if you are a player of any standing?

Sure, or we have zero interest in signing anyone, so any players linked to us are just speculation. Bottom line is, we are not close in signing any player as of dated, while most of our rivals have already strengthen their squad with 2-3 new additions.

What a mess our great club is in!

Wilderness for the foreseeable future.

The miss management of the club by the Glazers won’t prevent a full house come the opening day of the season and the subsequent games thereafter. Cash cow of a club and until the money stops rolling in the Glazers will remain and our great club will remain mediocre but surviving enough to paying them their 10m dividends. Rinse and repeat..

Can’t seem to sell anyone at all. Rashford somehow has 1 season left on his contract without it being a big deal, Martial is here before he goes in a free, AWB loves the bench too much.
We have so much shit waiting out their time for free transfers that clutters up the squad. We will make two signings this summer and that’s it and neither will be De Jong. I don’t blame anybody not wanting to join that dressing room or our club in general.

I think he's the right choice but no, I can't get excited.

If we keep up the usual incompetence, haphazard recruitment, and so on, he'll fail just like the others before him. And I consider that far more likely than us getting our shit together all of a sudden.

Leave everything aside. It’s a simple choice. Does ETH coming in as coach excite you? If the answer is no before he’s started then you may as well switch off

17 years they have been doing this.
Just because they hired a guy who is better at PR than the one they fired means nothing.
The structural changes should have been done at the beginning.

The Glazers are greedy, uncaring scum.

But surely they aren't stupid enough to take £11m(?) out of the club tomorrow without United at the very least leaking that a transfer is close?

Jesus. They weren’t, cause we had Fergie. Get over it.

arnold has come in and immediately defers to football people, taking advice and putting in place new structures. He couldn’t have done much more in his first few months

That is the problem is it not?

Depending on Fergie to appoint the next manager?
In case you’ve been living under a rock, that hadn’t happened this time. We went through a thorough process to get ETH. He, and the new structure need to be judged on their actions, not on historical stuff

If this is true, for sure he is going to jump ship next year if he has rejected our contract offer.

We are linked to 100 players this window, do you actually believe we had 100 targets this summer?

Imagine working 16 hours a day like Murtough and not signing a single player in 4 weeks….fecked aren’t we.
If it was a linear relationship between time worked and players signed we could just hire ten directors of football for the month of June and save a little bit of cash the rest of the year

An inconvenient fact. History has a direct bearing on the present.
Martial was retained as an 'investment'. Not for footballing reasons. Selling him when he should have been would have have released funds that could be used now. Meanwhile his wages are going straight to the bottom line.
But the Glazers still take their dividend.

Yes. Erik was the right hire. But players are still thinking hard to come here because the Glazers still have the final say.
We may end up getting de Young because Barca are skint. But that would eat up most of the budget.

The fact is the manager is starting the season with a handicap. He cannot get all the players he wants because players can see the state of the club like everyone else.

9 years without a title. Just think. Meanwhile we have to hope City keep winning to prevent the Scousers.

ETH and the structural changes is not like waving a magic wand.

I can understand people being impatient, I'm impatient myself, but I hope and believe that us not signing anyone yet has to do with us taking our time and not panicking rather than incompetence. If we still haven't signed anyone by July 8th I'll start worrying. Most if not all our targets will be on vacation until then anyway.

If this extra time results in us being able to afford an extra player it's worth it.

You’re talking a load of nonsense because there’s no way you know that as fact,

football goes in cycles. 27 years it took for us to win a title again. Liverpool 29? despite being the dominant team of 80s. Once pep leaves it’ll probably take city years again til they find the right coach.

stop worrying about stuff that might not happen, enjoy the moment

He was still working for Ajax though. Really 12 May is when we got his full attention. So not sure why people are thinking we’ve had a year to be working on transfer targets. It’s a different list for a different manager style
So he can only say to our nego team that FDJ is his main target after he visit United?
