I'm getting the parts from KSA through a friend that travels monthly since prices in Lebanon are about 4 times higher (fml).

So first 2 parts are:

https://www.amazon.sa/-/en/Corsair-...m+3600&qid=1601355212&sprefix=32+gb+ra&sr=8-2

https://www.amazon.sa/-/en/MSI-GAMI...us&qid=1601356476&sprefix=MSI+MPG+Z490&sr=8-1

Both parts costing 462$ together. I know its high but amazon prices are only parts being delivered within the US. Shipping just fecks the price up and so far KSA is the cheapest, and I don't have anyone coming from the US to Lebanon anytime soon :(

Anyone know if it's worth upgrading my i5 to an i7 for Cyberpunk 2077?

Also, should I upgrade my GTX 1060 6GB?

I want to be able to play it smoothly on medium, maybe some high settings?

@Slevs that build is complete overkill for a 1080p monitor, even at 144hz.

You should really get a 1440p 144hz monitor and you could cut costs by using a good AMD CPU or dropping the RAM to 16GB.

There are actually a few vids on Youtube where people have shown that the Ryzen 5 3600 doesn't bottleneck the 3080 at all, so that Intel is complete overkill.

I'm still looking for a 144hz 1440p monitor in Lebanon.

Haven't generally had experience with AMD and I prefer Intel.

Its not a good build to be honest mate.
Z490 UNIFY its gen 4 compatible across board. Get a bog standard chip until May or whatever, since you're going with Intel.

Any decent chip 106 and above will thermal throttle with that cooler. You need an aio.
I didn't get a chance to look at your housing, but you need a lot of air flow over looks.. well completely don't do do my case. Caugh -- NZXT -- Caught.

Good luck getting a gpu mate. Ill say you'll get one in March, where you live.

This. You don't need 32GB RAM for gaming. If you wanted to save more, consider an alternative to the Samsung EVO which is massively overpriced.

That would be my build.. if you must..

That's me having sly eyes like demon. I could build a pc as good for half the price.

980 pro is for gen 4 next year which I think tomahawk 490 supports.

Stick a bit of chewing gum instead of thermal paste. That’ll help with overcooking.
The 2nd most recent pc I built kept overheating.

Took it apart and realised I hadn't taken the plastic off the new CPU cooler.

Whoops

It was fine until tried to play games with it.

It was completely stable during normal activity.

At this point, I'd probably go AMD to be honest, but thats my personal opinion.
I'd also change the M.2 to a Sabrent 4.0 just for the sake
Other than that, everything looks fine as far as a build goes, although a one said, this will outperform 144hz, so pushing 1440p would be better, but it's not gonna kill you!

So pick one up then? 2080ti is still one of the best cards in a wild.
I don't want one.
I just don't understand why right now is the worst time to build a PC.
If you don't mind picking up second hand, plenty of high end cards moving hands along with AMD CPUs very shortly

Because zen 3 is getting rolled out with a lot of promises.
Intel are still honking gen 3.
10600k is probably the best chip, price to performance .if you're new to pc building, its not as clear cut.

Because we have zero zen 3 chips. We have 30 series launch...and we have bit navi launch.

are you still at a loss because no one knows what's happening..
Ah I see. You mean a bad time to build due to stock issues.
I thought you meant value for money etc

I'll wait for the AMD Cpus to release and check for reviews. AMD have piqued my interest.

Things should be clearer with the RTX series by then as well, and I'll have AMD's GPUs to look forward too.

Piggybacking on this thread.

After finally getting a replacement power supply for my PC I've decided that maybe after eight years I should probably trying and upgrade some things, but I'm torn between saving as much money as I can so the family can still eat or just admitting that trying to replace the CPU and GPU is pointless if my old mobo decides to just die after ten more minutes.

What do you think? Just replace my old and trusty 670 (can't believe it still works, well done Gigabyte) and find a CPU that's compatible with a Z77 board, or rebuild the whole thing and maybe just keep the case and SSD?

If I did rebuild it I would probably have to eat beans for a few months but it would be worth it.

Even if you wanted to build a pc right now stock is dire for anything decent and prices are through the roof. I'd wait til mid year when things hopefully normalize again.

Oh, without a doubt. Just wondering if it's worth retrofitting anything when the time comes? Even just a new GPU. I'm not saying a 3570k is a super magic CPU but I still think I have some wiggle room with it.

Been watching the situation for months because I was hoping to build a new PC but the fact that I'd have to sell my soul to the devil for a 30 series GPU means I'm sticking with my GTX970 for the foreseeable future.

Feet up at home.
Pleased with myself today. My old pc was getting too hot and shutting down while idling I bought it in 2014 but updated the RAM and graphics card a couple of years ago.
So I thought I'd treat myself to a new one and had various problems with it so returned it.
Revisted the old one and removed the water cooler system and put in a bog standard fan and heatsink that was 8 quid from Amazon and it's alive and working fine again. A good day.
