Full Name: Jacob Harry Maguire
Date of Birth: Mar 5, 1993
Nationality: England
Height: 194cm
Squad Number: 5
Position: Defender - Centre-Back
Foot: Right
Player Agent: Triple S Sports
Contract expires: Jun 30, 2026

Did he get a hip injury 2 minutes into the second half? He was subbed off after half an hour.

Personal matter apparently

Ah, OK. But it looked like he sustained an injury like I said here above, against Leeds and was subbed after half an hour. Was just putting 2 and 2 together. Hopefully you're right (and it's not too serious either).

It was apparently a pre-planned sub.

Pure speculation but I wonder if he'll be traded before the deadline

Wouldn't mind a couple of prospects from that Chelsea farm
Yep, got to be some kids fresh out of college playing some good Triple-A ball down there for the Strasbourg Surrendermonkeys.

Highly unlikely when we have a three centre-back system. Lindelof is gone and we cannot rely on Shaw and Licha staying fit.
Would be unlikely but with Mazroui, Yoro, De Ligt, Heaven, Shaw and Licha that is 6 without Harry and we know we have Fredricson knocking on the door also. With the difficulties we are having raising funds it would be tough to turn down if a club like Sunderland decided Harry was the veteran they need to ensure they don't go straight back down and offered us 20M for the big lump. He is fully amoritized so it would be all profit and if it gave him the chance to sign a long term contract he might fancy it. I think it is unlikely but equally it is not something that would greatly surprise me.

Just off the top of my head, I know nothing about recent US immigration rules, but does his little Greek fiasco bar him from entering?

He just posted on his story that all is fine now and he’s heading off tomorrow.

I personally heard he was actually filming something today that will be released in line with a big global footballing event next year.

Sunderland would go bankrupt if they paid his wages, lets be real here. I can't wait for him to leave, A few purple spots don't erase what an utter failure he's been for his £80m world record fee which we paid all in one lump sum (which is rare for any transfer, I can only recall Ronaldo's fee being paid like that by Real Madrid, yes Ronaldo).

Fair enough, I just don't think selling him would leave us that short in the event somebody made us an offer we thought was acceptable.

My bet he'll be one of our most important and most used players this season (if fit). Been really steady in preseason so far and I'll be surprised if he doesn't start against Arsenal, with de Ligt on the bench.

Feels like he’s quite a lot better than MDL in that CCB position (who I thought really struggled last night). Hopefully he will start against Arsenal.

I got nervous when he stepped into midfield against Fiorentina. He's 32 now, I could see a slight decline in agility and lateral movement and he already has trouble with 9s who drop deep.

Pretty sure he even said himself in the video above that he felt his physical levels have dropped off compared to when he was 25/26 years old.

There's going to be a point where we call on him again to be an important player.
Totally agree, he's up there with the best at defending deep. I expect his role to be off the bench to protect a lead or when we are under the kosh. Providing we can actually get some goals in the first place to take the lead..

His comments about Ronaldo and pressing.

It's such a shame football is now more concerned with pressing than actually kicking the ball around well. They're fixated on it. The explanation for everything is pressing.

Prior to Ronaldo it was a front three of Rashford, Martial and Greenwood.

How is Maguire calling that a "pressing machine?"

All three about as laid back as it gets off the ball. How could swapping one of them for Ronaldo possibly cause a collapse in the whole thing.

It clicked for a while under Ole because Rashford and Martial had their best seasons. Greenwood came in and everything he hit went in. Bruno was scoring well.

Football is about goals. Always will be.

Yea calling them "pressing machines" was wrong All 3 of Martial, Rashford and Greenwood ( Dan James before him) were quick and dynamic and with Bruno behind them teams were essentially Afraid to lose the ball to is their 3rd.

Man Utd 0:1 Arsenal
So many aimless headers when defending.

We seriously REJECTED bids for him? I mean....why? Guy was always slow but now he can barely move.

His defending is based on fouling players. And people dared to compare him with De Ligt.

Sooner we get rid the better. Gave the ball away 3 times under zero pressure

At least he didn't start today. Not sure I like that he still seems to be seen as a last resort for the attack. Feels like this game is symbolic for him - came on, had to go out of his comfort zone, didn't do too badly, yet we still lost. And that for another 10 mil a year

You are not following a news? We rejected all bids, we plan new contract and he was named by Amorim as one of 6 leaders in changing room.

Defending under no pressure, refuses to take the ball down, just smashes a header straight towards unmarked opposition player. Zero intelligence and calmness. Another one who should have been fired out of a cannon, plenty ball playing centrehalves out there. Also had to laugh at him going up front and every ball being ping towards him, despite our brand new shiny 6ft 6 striker being on the pitch

So we had bids for him... Anything £20M or above I'd take and spend on a keeper. Clearly need that more than even a CM right now.
