I've seen few people partially blame Maguire for the goal but that ball went in with such a wicked curve. I highly doubt he could've done anything about it.
Not his fault. And Im by far not his biggest fan.

I think he should have been more committed, one way or another, in the initial phase of that attack, even though it would’ve been risky. He tried to close him down, got scared of getting exposed, dropped back and in the end got stuck in a position where he was self-isolated from the episode.

He shouldn’t be blamed for the shot itself, but I do think that he was partly at fault in the previous phase. Great game aside from that.

His physique means when he's caught out of position it's more obvious and akin to watching an oil tanker having to perform a hand-break turn. It doesn't mean he's caught out of position any more or less than any other defender, but it probably stands out more due to being more visually jarring. He gets a lot of unfair criticism, but some of it's not entirely unjustified. I don't think he is or is likely to become one of the top defenders in Europe any time soon and given he's 33 now he might just be someone who is capable to take is where we need to be to make the next step forward, but not someone capable to helping up take that step forward.

Man Utd 3:1 Aston Villa New
Brilliant again today.

If he was the one marking Osula we wouldn’t have lost the Newcastle game.

Very quick thinking to just take the yellow late on there. Was very involved in trying to support the build up even if he doesn’t have Licha’s range, and could’ve had an assist in the 1st half with that header to Amad.

He's been one of the best in the league when he's played this season.

Not only that he deserves an England World Cup call-up, he deserves to go as a starter. Imperious once again.

Fantastic performance.

So impressed with the guy. He was basically footballs biggest laughing stock at one point. He was a complete meme for United fans and non-United fans alike, the strength he's shown to not only stick that out but to come back and consistently perform like this is remarkable.

Maguire the Magnificent. Just sign him to a new contract, even if for two seasons. Exactly where we he go? A club like Villa or Palace? I don’t think so.

I love him but he takes far too long on the ball and is glacially slow. Delighted if he's our 3rd/4th choice CB next year, very worried if Maguire is viewed as a starter.

It was the slow walks up the field today, and the last one he did should have resulted in a goal for Villa. He's capable of playing quickly, but randomly forgets to keep to a high tempo.

He's great defensively against some teams and is useful in the squad, but I agree he shouldn't be one of our best two CB's.

To be fair to him the movement of our players in the first half was rubbish. Nobody was moving/wanting the ball.

Thinks improved dramatically in that regard in the second half and he didn't spend as long on the ball as a result

This. And this is what I want from a player, dig in when things are not going your way. Shaw, Bruno, Casimero... all great examples of this and it is no surprise that they are leading our team.

Maguire is playing superbly.. those who complain about his time on the ball, should note that he sometimes has little to target,, Mbuma seems a little unsure at the moment, Amad not quite at it.. Dalot and Yoro cannot always be trusted, and where is Kobie Mainoo to pick the ball up from him to get us playing?

If he was signed in Fergie’s era, he would be regarded in the same way as Vidic or Stam. Excellent again today.

No chance. He’s good, but not that good. Stam and Vidic were monsters.

I’d put him on the level with Johnson and Berg. Didn’t get to see much of Pallister and Bruce.

One of my favourite players. Love his attitude and his fighting spirit. His ”comeback” after being ostracised and ridiculed is nothing short of amazing.

We keep calling Casemiro "uncle" but Maguire is only 1 year younger than him and it doesn't look like age is an issue

And it's not like his game is about pace either so hopefully age won't be an issue for him for a long time to come. We need to sign him to a new contract.

Right now he’s England best CB on current form, Valverde doesn’t do to Maguire what he did to Gheui!

He struggled hugely in his first few years having to live up to the expectations that were placed upon him. The club dropping down the table and the adjustment of those expectations, not just on him, but the team have allowed him to go about his game with much less scrutiny. That and a sensible system that brings the best out of him, but even under Amorim he was looking better. He's a solid defender but i worry still that he will get caught out for pace when facing the elite attackers.

I disagree with that. He was good to very good for us for the first two years; its just the narrative of the price tag that put a negative light on that. Its only the next 1 1/2 or 2 years where he struggled.

Is should be studied how he came back from all abuse.
Need to stay, same as Case if we want to beacme regular top time.

Good deal for all parties - didn't think I would be happy about a new Maguire contract a few years back

Good lad 'arry!

Bournemouth 2:2 Man Utd New
I honestly don't blame him too much for that because he was playing the game by the rules the ref had already established in the game.

It was soft as feck.

Every time our players does something dumb it's the refs fault in the eyes of the fans.

He's just slow and cumbersome, that's who he always will be. Even in his best run of form he's managed to concede two pens against Fulham and Bournemouth, and a red card on top.

The fact Amad should have had a pen has nothing to do with our poor defending. It's perfectly possible for the ref to be a twat and acknowledge poor decisions from our players.

He’s a big stiff idiot. Always has been and always will be.
