Pushing a player thats gone past you in the box. That will be a foul everytime. Not sure whats to disagree about in that one. For me its typical maguire. My opinion is the guy is a liability. He always seems to have that in him as he it to slow. Poor positioning. Either man mark or get in-between to eliminate pass. He doesnt play if de ligt and Martinez are around, but alas here we are. Recruitment has been so poor for years. Not Man United quality. Doesn't belong anywhere near our squad.
Perfectly put.

He just panicked and made it obvious that he was trying to impede the striker which made it an easy scenario for Evanilson to exaggerate the contact. Was always going to be a pen. Once he has made the initial mistake and can't get back to the striker he has to trust his keeper to get him out of trouble.

Easy to not be a liability if you are never fit to play like those two. The true liabilities.

I thought he had another good game outside of the pen, which shouldn't have been given going by the refs own logic.

Pretty bad tonight. Two terrible errors and pretty meh on the ball.

But whatever, we are sort of fecked for options and he’s mostly been solid this spring.
His passing was beyond awful. He and Yoro were the same. Every time they were pressured, they were either hoofing the ball or putting another United player under more pressure. Between them, they barely made any passes beyond the halfway line. People talk about the investment in midfield, but this squad won't go anywhere with only one defender who's comfortable on the ball and, unfortunately, always injured.

Seen Tuchel saying he sees Konsa, Guehi and Chalobah ahead of him. Laughable.

I think Maguires better than all 3.

For England especially. Hard pressed to find flaws in Maguire’s major tournament performances in his career

Strange for him to say it even if he thinks it. It either pays off for England or it doesn’t, not sure I even care, and I’m English.

Yeah, I think he's been one of our better players in every tournament he's played in. I said it at the time and I still think he had a shout as the best player in the whole of Euro 2020/1. Great tournament for us, and his penalty was the best of the lot in the final.

Though when you read the full quotes, it sounds like Tuchel could still bring him:

It will be interesting now to see how he acts within the group. He will stay with us. He has an asset that can also be super-important in a tournament, in knockout football, in defending a lead and chasing a game with crosses and long throw-ins and set-pieces.

I got exactly what I thought [against Uruguay]. Solid, solid central-defender play. That's what he does. Very good on the ball, very calm, strong in the air and the weapon for set-pieces.

Guehi I can understand... But the other two? Ridiculous... They're not fit to lace Harry's boots

Mobility is pointless if you can't defend

Yes, if that was the case, I'd agree. I think Konsa is decent. Not sure about Chalobah.

In any case, I think if you've got an idea for the collective, it may not work with certain profiles. I think that might also apply here. We cannot play a high line with Harry, we cannot really play quick tempo out from the back (he takes way too many touches). But he's got outstanding characteristics in other areas.

De Gea during his decline was a good example of this. A superb reflex keeper and an atrocious distributor.

Even though Harry has had a redemptive arch here and done actually really well, I don't think he should be a first XI player next season and I definitely think we should both try to play a much higher line (and obviously have the personnel for it) as well as circulating the ball much quicker up the pitch.

He's right, in terms of best suited - if the gameplan is to press/play with a high line.

(Maguire should still go though).

Other than Guehi, Maguire is a miles better defender than the rest.
Though I'd be glad if Tuchel decides not to take him. With how injury prone Martinez and De Ligt have been, we'll need Maguire fresh, firing and always available next season.

'Arry is such a fascinating figure to me tbh. There've been few if any CBs in all of football whove had such a disparaging memetic campaign against them, to the point of becoming a global byword for incompetence & mentioned in Ghanian Parliament off the back of a bad season & a half.... And yet i also cant think of many CBs - United or otherwise - whove had quite as many huge iconic clutch moments in their time either.

Maybe Bruce? Especially if you give him that first CWC final goal?... But even Bruce didnt score a winner at Anfield, or Stamford Bridge, or in the last minute of a European Semi Final, or even be capable of a video ranking their greatest winning goals, let alone take unequivocally the greatest ever shoot out penalty for England, in a final....and score in both a World Cup and a Euros...and be England's highest scoring defender EVER!..

I mean theres an argument that Harry Maguire is one of the most important footballers of the 2020s...for a number of reasons. But at this point the majority of them positive

I take my hat and my trousers off to him... Big man inia di game

He's great. The fee killed him but he's been worth it actually. I just wish we'd grabbed him off Hull for a song. Is this going to be his third contract? He doesn't rely on pace. He's going to be a good reliable player for the the next few years so we may as well enjoy it. I'm so so glad to see him doing well and silencing the doubters

As UTD fan, I would love if he stays and get ready for next seasson. But I understand if he wants to go.

In a world of shit on a stick football the slab-headed god is king.

Maguire needs this shirt for his next goal celebration

Harry insulted the fourth official and upon VAR review, the call was confirmed. So at least VAR got one decision right in that match.

Can you really be expected to respect the authority of officials who clearly showed up to work drunk?

Which is exactly what Pep, Klopp, Duplo-head do several times every game.
Precedent set. Yeah, right. Like Rio’s ban, + Rooney for shouting at the microphone and Scholes and Rooney bans for getting sent off in pre-season friendlies. Never happened since. Make an example of United and the rest will notice. Not. Repeat, repeat…. cnuts.

"You can feel the ambition and potential of this exciting squad. The determination throughout the whole club to fight for major trophies is clear for everyone to see and I am confident that our best moments together remain ahead of us.”

Good decision I think, he's in decent form and he can help the younger lads progress. I don't want us relying heavily on him next season mind.

He's been a lot better, good news about the extension. The FA have cleared Martinelli from pushing the referee and are charging Maguire
