Currently suspended for a red card and a penalty given away. Unbelievable that people think he'd be the solution

I'd say it's easily De Ligt and Maguire is 2nd, but de ligt must have broken his spine or something so might as well not even count him.
Nah.. I don't rate de ligt much. His passing is atrocious, and he's not a great header also. Combined that he's pretty slow, he's far away from my ideal type of CB.

You should get a job in scouting with such a level of analysis.

Tonight is what he's being talked about as the solution for. Maguire gave a penalty away as well as a red card, not sure how that would have helped

Ridiculous soft pen and card - but you know that.

You want him gone - tonight is what you get without him. We were bullied from start to finish by a team in a relegation fight.

He's excellent at heading! And much quicker than Maguire while actually being better with his passing, if nothing creative but reliable. Fair enough though, but I've always rated him and thought he was really good this season til the injury. Huge loss to lose him IMO, but at this point I wouldn't complain at all if you told me we'd get rid of all 5 CBs and bring a new batch in. Can't trust any of the 5 to either stay fit or play well.

Eh given most of Leeds' tactic was to just play it high to DCL and watch him bully are pathetically soft CBs, Maguire alone probably changes that game completely.

We were beaten by a team who played better football and made more chances. Would Maguire have helped? Yes. For sure. Lisandro and Maguire has been our best combination this season and was our backline for Carrick's initial great results. So Maguire for Yoro would obviously have been stronger. However... The reason he couldnt be picked tonight is because he gave away a penalty and got sent off. Its his fault he wasnt available. And if he played like he did last time, Leeds would have had a penalty to get a 3rd goal.

He would have done that against Maguire too. Thats his game and picking up the 2nd balls is about the rest of our team, not the CBs.

Can you stop with the boring trolling please. We get it, you don’t rate Maguire.

Mate, we must've watched a different De Ligt.

You don't think he'd have been immeasurably better than Martinez tonight?

He wouldn't have been able to bully Maguire, he'd have been floored.

Yes he does that every game doesn’t he. What a ridiculous thing to say.

Every single one of our best performances this season involve Maguire. Our best CB, comfortably

Is this seriously your argument? It happened last game, so he would have done the same in this game? Conveniently leaving out all his great performances for us this season, being our best defender and being our most important player defensively for crosses/set-pieces.

Maguire has 3 red cards in his Premier League career. For comparison, Vidic has 6, and has played 72 fewer appearances. Would you say Vidic wouldn't be the solution, because he got red cards in some games? Mind-boggling that people think playing your best defender would be bad for the team.

Are you dense?

The argument is about our last game, in which Lisandro was sent off and we lost. So yes Maguire's last game and the reason why he wasnt available are very important to remember. Just like the subject of our last game. Yes it was one match. So was last night

I don't believe we lose last night if he plays, very simple. It's a bit mad it's got to the point where he's our most important and reliable CB, but it is what it is. It's not a bad thing, but it does seem a bit crazy that that is where we are in 2026.

Personal insult and then you follow up with that.

You make no sense. The topic at hand is whether Maguire - if available - would be better for us, and we would likely not concede two goals. You are arguing against it, and your argument is "but he was suspended". Well, of course, I think we all know that. The point is that he is a better defender.

Yes on one night. Like the one night he played and got sent off conceding a penalty, last game, meaning he wasnt available for this one

The point is his bad defending is why he couldnt play.

We learn whether or not Harry is facing a further ban during the next 48 hours or so - for what he supposedly said to the 4th official when leaving the pitch following his sending off against Bournemouth. Keep your fingers crossed on this one guys, could have a big say in how the weekend plays out.

Okay, and Yoro and Lisandro made defensive mistakes yesterday as well, Lisandro got himself a red card too, what exactly are you arguing? Maguire in our defense is better than our other options, not just one game, but overall. Do you agree or disagree?

One of the most underrated footballer of all time, especially by his own fans. He can look annoying with the extra touches on the ball and the odd mistake. However, I have saw games, even under Carrick where I was wondering where we would be if Harry was not playing. Key interventions, winning almost all his duels, winning headers, not playing scared, providing a clear platform for our forward players to attack on etc. are just a few traits that make us look better than we actually are.
We need him way more than we might care to admit.

Some fans have not forgiven his meme-period, which in fairness was absolutely shocking at times. I think he has become better with age, he is a total professional, and the mental resilience on this guy is incredible. He will have his odd moment here and there, but like you say, the amount of times he wins his ground duels, aerial duels, reading of the game and intercepting is brilliant, and has saved us numerous times. I reckon he will play at a high level till his mid 30s.

We missed his heading ability yesterday. When hes good, he clears most things flying into the box. Yesterday, our CBs didnt deal with those at all. We desperately not a dominant CB in his mold.

Why are we only finding this out a few days before our next match? It can’t help with preparation surely. It’s been eons since the Bournemouth match and surely a decision could have been made more swiftly?

Agreed. Pretty crappy circumstances and difficult for the coaching staff to plan for the weekend.

Maguire also gave away a penalty and therefore most likely a goal. And that did happen. Meanwhile Lisandro cleared a goal off the line before being sent off.

No Maguire, de Ligt and Lisandro have all been about the same level defensively. And only the combination of Maguire and Lisandro (which was what Carrick had in his first run of games) has looked like a decent CB partnership for us. de Ligt did quite well, but we were still weak defensively overall while he was doing it. When the young players have come in next to our experienced CBs we've conceded a lot and had worse results. The one thing I will give you is I bet we got more points with Maguire +youngster than with de Ligt or Lisandro +youngster this season as he had a few wins next to Yoro. I'll give you that he seems better at guiding a young CB next to him, but thats what you'd expect given he's far older and more experienced than the other 2. If that wasnt the case something would be wrong. However, he was playing next to Yoro also when he gave away a penalty and got sent off last game so... still ups and downs
