Hinata Miyazawa | Signs a new contract

It's going to be hard to incorporate Hinata, Grace Clinton and Ella Toone into the lineup without losing defensive solidity or width. If we could, that would be magical. Tough to do against strong opponents though. In some respects I can't help but think we look more like a squad that can play 3/5 at the back than the men do.

Yesterday it was beautiful to watch how Terland and Toone continually pecked away at the City's defence while Miyazawa and Janssen kept the midfield moving. The game only really slipped away from us during the last quarter of an hour of the first half, so maybe that's the bit where we need to learn to adapt faster as the opponent steps up pace.
 
Loved that quote from Maya describing her as being like a mini-Modric.

Last season's injuries and Skinner's seeming determination to stick with the same players, made me wonder if she would even want to come back this season. There's no doubt about it now though.

The more game time she gets and the more she gets used to what her teammates want, the better she gets. Absolutely delighted for her and us.

I'd like to see her next to Awujo. I think thats a better option than Naalsand, Janssen, or Ladd. Clinton I'm not sure on as she gives the ball away a decent amount so might be best to keep her playing the attacking roles, am, or playing off the right as she has done this season

Once again I though she was uplifting to watch vs Spurs, and particularily in the first half. She’s so nimble and sharp, and knows how to pass the ball quickly and keep the tempo up. A great improvement on last year.

Manchester United are in discussions with midfielder Hinata Miyazawa over a new long-term deal.

The Japan international has become a key player under manager Marc Skinner since joining in 2023.

The 26-year-old has more than 50 caps for her national team and was the Golden Boot winner at the 2023 Women's World Cup with five goals.

She has impressed this season, starting all 22 matches United have played across the Women's Super League, Champions League and the League Cup.

Yes! Hinata has become crucial to the team over the last year or so. In a different thread, @Demon Barber named her as a prospective Player-of-the-Year for us, and it's hard to disagree.
 
Ah, that's excellent news. Really pleased to see United getting things done before we're into the final stages of "contract running out".

Also nice to get that confirmation that Miyazawa feels at home in Manchester.
 
It's remarkable to me how quickly she went from being a capable backup to an indispensable part of the squad. She's definitely on my short list of players that we absolutely cannot afford to lose.
 
Super reliable and makes the entire midfield tick. So pleased she is staying put a while.
