Lots of defenders...very few attackers

Schmeichel ahead of Corrigan, big call that, speaking of keepers it'll be interesting to see how Gunn gets on, doing well in a poor Norwich team but will probably have to leave us.

Joe Corrigan arrived at City when he was 19/20 so didn't come through their youth system.
came in 66 at 17, made his debut at 18 in 67, not sure how youth sytems operated in the black and white days mind :)

The academy of PSG was created in 1975, which explains the relative greatness of the suggested team. The pipeline is promising: Kimpembe, Timothy Weah, Ruiz...

Didier Domi ------ Pilorget---- Sakho ------------- Llacer

Bayern Munich:

Need some help regarding older players since don't have that much knowledge from then:

-------------------------Maier--------------------------
----Babbel-----Hummels------Schwazenbeck---
Lahm------------------------------------------------Alaba
-------Schweinsteiger---Beckenbauer--Hargreaves-----
-------------------------Kroos---------------------------
-------------------------T.Muller------------------------

Can't really remember any great pure strikers coming through the youth team (only Sandro Wagner ). G.Muller, Karl Heinz and Hoeness were all brought in at 18 years and didn't play for the youth teams. Just thinking about it, Bayern brought in Muller, Hoeness, Karl Heinz, Breitner at such a young age when they were part of the second division and they turned into absolute legends, whoever was responsible for scouting them turned German football history around. Also, I didn't include Augenthaler since he was also brought in at an older age (18), though he did play one year in the youth team, I'm keeping the limit to joining the club at at most 16 years age.

Generally the criteria for a youth player is:

1. Joined club prior to 18 (i.e. 17yrs and younger)
2. Hadn't signed pro elsewhere
3. Hadn't played first team elsewhere
4. Played in youth team

If any of those you mention meet all four criteria then you can name them so that we are consistent.

Also, just something I was thinking about, Schalke's best youth players who are still currently active:

---------------------Neuer------------------------
Kehrer------Matip--------Howedes-----Kolasinac
-----------Gundogan----Meyer------------------
L.Sane---------------Ozil------------------Draxler
-------------Pierre Michel Lassoga----------------

Kehrer is still very young and might develop into a really good player, but there are some world class players on the list along with a bunch of very solid players as well. Probably Barca can be the only team to certainly provide a better group of players from such a recent generation.

Certainly not saying their the greatest but the Celtic side that won the European Cup in 67 were all born within 30 miles of the city. I think that's an incredible achievement. They all were literally homegrown.

For my money Ajax win out for sheer quality over time.

Quite some talent they had in this generation alone.

Not quite...

1. Simpson - played over 400 games for other clubs before coming to Celtic
2. Craig - came to Celtic in 1963 from University at 20 years old
3. Gemell - came to Celtic when he was 18 and didn't play in the youth team
4. Murdoch - youth player
5. McNeill - youth player
6. Clark - youth player
7. Johnstone - youth player
8. Wallace - played nearly 300 games for other clubs
9. Chalmers - came from Dumbarton when he was 23
10. Auld - youth player
11. Lennox - came to Celtic when he was 18 and didn't play in the youth team.

So five out of the eleven were actual youth products.

Having said that...having them all from the Glasgow region is amazing.

That's an immense team. Says alot about the quality we've churned out over the years that the likes of Beckham and Giles only make the subs list.

It's more the Glasgow region I meant by saying homegrown as in they were from the area. I find that amazing too. That is something that will never be repeated

Not too sure about a first XI but the Southampton one could be interesting. Bale, Shaw, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott, Le Tissier, Shearer, Lallana, Bridge. A more knowledgeable poster might be able to fill in the gaps at the back! Callum Chambers at a stretch maybe?

Imagine a coked up obese Bosnich lining up with some of those greats that have been listed with him, representing the true fan! Brilliant

Awful. Couldn't think of a right back, we've produced no decent goalies but there's a few decent centre backs I could've picked.

I've deliberately not picked any current players (although they would make the team).

He can't be the best goalie you've produced, can he? In almost every other position you've got absolute legends of the game and than that wasteman?

Talented guy and great for Villa but looks so out of place in a side with Bob Charlton in it!

@Sayros @BBRBB
Seems pretty accurate, I would probably replace Chantôme by Nzonzi or Cana.

Our focus on the academy is recent, a similar XI is likely to look much more impressive in 10 years.

4. Page

7. Paine
8. Channon
9. Shearer
10. Le Tissier

An amazing about of attacking forwards...only one keeper who made more than 10 apps and virtually no central defenders.

Ok with fullbacks and forwards...weak everywhere else.
