Honest Question: What is Fred's market value?

I wouldn't have a clue.
He has intensity and can move the ball quickly but he has flawed technique and has bad lapses of concentration but yet he is a regular for Brazil.
25mil??

Can’t see anyone paying more than 40 mill euros for him right now.

His contract is up next summer so at the moment his value is probably very low.

Only has 12 months left on his deal - probably worth about £25m this summer. I don't think there's any chance of us selling him though - we have lost enough midfielders already and he will be needed next season.

Like a lot of things, not everything because the market operates in a state of irrational exuberance for the most part, it comes back to supply and demand doesn't it?

For the things Fred can provide is there another midfielder who can do the same things (supply) and how much does X club want Fred, specifically, to do those things rather than another option (demand).

Looking at it like that, I find it hard to believe that you could convince many clubs to part with more than £15-20m for Fred.

Fred is, undoubtedly, a pressing machine. He's a great character. He never gives up. All of those are desirable traits. BUT they're not unique. Fred is better than a lot of players at this stuff but he's not the only player in the world who can do it. You can go and snatch someone up from the Red Bull group who will happily press all day for you. So then you're asking how much does it have to be Fred? I think most clubs and coaches, Tite excepting, will answer that question: 'It doesn't really need to be Fred.'

So if you're putting the player on the market you have to make it attractive for other clubs, who might have other cheaper options who can do similar things, to buy him. Then you factor in the huge wages Fred will be on, as a United player. That will act as a disincentive for the clubs who might be interested in him. As most clubs who could match those wages won't be interested in paying them to a player of Fred's quality.

As others have said his contract length is pretty short too.

All of this, to me, puts a downward pressure on the price.

20 million. He is not very good.

Tbh I actually think your getting ripped off if you pay more than 10 for him

Fred in an energetic pressing team could be superb, but when he is the only 1 in the front 6 who is even above average at pressing you are not going see the full benefit of his work.

29, high energy game, would not want to be giving him a 3/4 year contract at this stage. 30-40 mill max.

This said, I reckon the answer will be very different in 12 months time.

I expect him to sign a new deal over the next couple of months and I think he will be one of the players Ten Hag gets the biggest turnaround out of.

This time next summer, I think we'll all be looking at the 50m spent on him as money well spent.

Hopefully he will test the market and then realise his worth and then be thankful if we are prepared to offer him a new deal.

Everyone keeps going on about Konrad Laimer. I've seen his videos and looked at his FBref reports and I personally don't think he's better than Fred. He is younger though so may command a higher free as a result. For Fred on in his final year, I'd say £20m though I think he's worth more to us right now than that £20m would be.

All I hope is that the new deal gets signed after he’s been turned around rather than before.

I think he’s one of the players most likely to prosper under EtH, but wouldn’t take it for granted.

I find market values to be ultimately futile because I don't see how you can ever arrive at a good estimate until interest is there. They're really just a function of a buyer and seller's negotiation and when you don't have the disposition of those parties it's just throwing random numbers about.

If one man says it's 20 and another 35 then it's hard to even have a good argument against either so the margin for error is huge. That tells you how nebulous the criteria are. Maybe one summer you would receive the former and another the latter.

I get factoring in age, potential, contract, wages, perceived ability, but it's really the concrete interest that firms up the position and you have no idea but random guesses as to how to allot financial values to each variable. They are pretty much alloted however the buyer and seller say hence there isn't always consistency. My guess is there is no interest in buying or selling and therefore no "real" value for Fred.

He is good enough to be the third best midfielder in a league winning/challenging side in my opinion. Probably about 20 - 25 based on his contract not having long left.

I reckon that's a fair thing to hope for. I'd like similar logic to be applied to new deals for De Gea, Shaw, Rashford etc as well.

Ugh almost forgot we actually spunked 50m on him, the amount of money we've wasted on bang average players is disgusting.

With 1 year contact - 25 mill ish. With a long term contract and not on ridiculous wages - 40 mill ish

I think Fred will flourish with skilful well drilled midfielders around him. He is very good for Brazil NT. If we can get FdJ next to him instead of McT watch...

Does it really matter, though?

It's not like we can sell him this summer unless we're buying three midfielders. And if we sell a CM, we should start with McTominay who is far inferior.

There is nothing like market value, it depends on lot of factors.

I guess the answer to that is how much would you be prepared to let him go for?

I think if a club came in for him for £40m I would want us to sell.... anything less, probably not.

If someone offered us £20million right now we'd be robbing them.

His recent form, coupled with contract status and current salary means he's not worth much imo. We're definitely going to offer him a new deal although I'd prefer we sold him given his age and contribution but if we do give him a new deal we should be insisting on a pay cut.

Hopefully he does and i'll give it to him at least he tries but even at his very best the general consensus on Fred is that he's just not good enough.

£25-30m I would guess, given his contract. He's a good player when used correctly, and he's tenacious.

It's sad his career didn't pan out, but he was never average at Shakhtar. He was actually a perfect box-to-box midfielder. Great passing skills, quick, strong in the tackle, moved the ball forward well and occasionally even scored some belters. He had more to his game than Fernandinho before his move. People here love Bissouma, but Fred was twice the player he is at the time. Pep wanted to sign him for a reason.

Can't believe we are into the last year of his signing. What a thoroughly uninspiring tenure at United. You could easily forget just how long he's been here.

As to answer the question, that depends entirely on how much you value what he brings to the team. It could be anywhere between 15million to 40million. For me if I was in charge of transfers at a club I would not value Fred too highly as I don't think he is very good.
