How do Barcelona afford their massive wages?

They seem to have become a pretty mismanaged football club. Throwing money at players they don't need or arent the right fit.

I mean, why on earth do they need Griezmann? They saw the CL semi and that's what they felt was lacking? They need pace and legs in that team to make use of Messi's playmaking genius.
Are you kidding? Of course we need Griezman. He has an excellent work rate and we desperately need a Suárez replacement

It will be their third 100m+ transfer in 3 years - Dembele, Coutinho and Griezmann

Remember when Woodward said "we can do things in the transfer market other clubs can only dream of"? Still waiting...
I think Woody meant "feck things up like no one else"

I have read somewhere that they use most of the club revenue for salaries. Almost 80% of it. Unlike other clubs which try to keep salaries around 55%.

Plus they have been very successful for many years now. Success generates cash and profits.

There's a reason why the upgrading of CN is repeatedly put on hold: the revenue is mostly focused on signings and wages.

Total salaries are just over 75% of turnover. Taking the current exchange rate into account it looks Barca are paying their players over 40% more than what United are, thats incredible. In fairness Messi is probably earning what 5 top players earn combined. There was huge growth in what they paid the previous year so its far to assume Countinho & Dembele are earning huge sums too, won't be easy getting rid of Countinho if thats the case.

Nope. We spent a lot of money on the players we already had. After the double pretty much everyone got big fat new contracts

Plus, big fat prize money on top
And yet we've got one of the saner wage structures among the top clubs, far from the unsustainable mess that the current management at Barca has created, where every random new teenager happens to be almost on the same wages as Kroos etc.

Catalonia has some very big banks like Caixa. Barsa gets some nice credit lines there.

True. On the hand, they got dembele, de jong and now likely de ligt and griezmann. We missed out on mbappé, pogba, and lost cristiano

On the other other hand, we won 3 CL in a row. So clearly, that was a group worth paying :D

Close to €100M a year gross and around €47-50M net a year I read which makes sense since Ronaldo is on €30M a year net at Juve and Messi earns comfortably more than him.
That is extraordinary.

And even with the big fat contracts your wage bill doesn't come close to Barcelona's...

The prize money you give to the players is offset by the prize money the club got from winning 4 CL titles in 5 years.

The difference in investment between Real Madrid and Barcelona in the past 5 years is ridiculous and there's no justification for it.
Why?

They are not breaking the law are they by spending huge amounts?

They get massive money from selling Messi shirts and other products attached to his name.

Probably not, let's see if it has long term consequences to their finances or not. There's not really any way of knowing accurately right now. They've spent loads of money though, even for a club of their size.

There is no way Barca will ever be allowed to go bust. Even money borrowed from banks is essentially limitless as they can afford massive repayments and the club is far more valuable as a going concern as opposed to be liquidated. There is simply no incentive for the banks to liquidated it (and the govt will never allow them to go under).

Barca will just keep restructuring the loans as and when necessary.

True. Also, do you want to be the Catalan bank that forced Barsa to pay up?

Just imagine the entire Netherlands favoring Ajax. That's what happens in Catalonia with Barça, with also help from Spain.

Barça is pretty much unbreakable, like Madrid.

Madrid and Barcelona fans telling eachother they spend too much is hilarious.

It's like the time Chelsea fans started whinging about Man City's emergence!

Although their wage bill is high, the reported wage bill of Barcelona apparently covers all sporting endeavours associated with the club, be it basketball, handball, futsal, women's, roller hockey.

How much does the average roller hockey pro make?

It'd be hilarious in the PL went all "we want Barca investigated" after La Liga's City meltdown. Imagine City passing FFP and the current investigation and then Barca failing, football would implode.

All those players probably get paid in a year what Messi gets paid in two weeks

Oh snap. Just saw what he earns. It's such a high amount that I felt rich just looking at that figure.

One point is that the Barcelona is owned by club members and the club president is elected. The president is likely to do things that will get him reelected including spending lots on players.

What is Messi on?
Someone on the first page said close to €100m gross a year. 2 weeks is roughly €4m. I know I’ve exaggerated but at Messi’s wages, it’s not even that unbelievable

Aren't they owned by fans? Maybe fans want to see their club successful. Owners would just come and milk the club for what they can get.

Then surely the percentage of revenue is from the cumulative revenues of all the teams then?

There are some FCB basketball player who earn 1-2M $ per year. All the other salaries are irrelevant compared to what footballers earn.
