How will United lineup next season? With some new signings who will play? Hopefully we sign even more players and we can chop and change as the transfer window continues.

Which of Santos and Tielemans will start? Maybe just one with Mainoo or play all three? Will Shaw start or Dorgu start? Who are the starting CBs?

----------------------Lammens-
Dalot------De Ligt----Martinez------Dorgu
--------Santos----Tielemans------Mainoo
------------------------Fernandes------------------
--------Mbeumo-----------------Cunha---------------

Haven't watched the video so don't know if these questions are addressed.

Surely not another season of Dalot as a starter? He's a squad player at best.

Can you rely on De Ligt Martinez with their injury track record?

Santos looks to me like a direct replacement for Ugarte, a squad player with hopefully a better win record when he does play.

Enough goals in the team to finish top 4 in the Premier League and reach the knock out stages of the champions league?

Pretty similar to last season, with Tielemans assuming the Casemiro role for a while until rotation, injuries and form assert themselves.

Lammens
Dalot Maguire Martinez Shaw
Teilemans Mainoo
Mbuemo Bruno Cunha
Sesko

We'll see if Martinez can hit the blocks for us early in the season, but if not he then Heaven. And only Heaven knows when De Ligt will return.

This is likely to be the main team next season. Don't see us bringing in anyone else of note so this is pretty likely I think.

I would say looking at what other teams are doing this team is good enough for top 5 or 6 but the squad outside this isn't great so I think it'll be more like top 10.

Surprised to see everyone starting Mbeumo ahead of Amad (although sadly not surprised to see United fans still can't spell his name right). Both will get plenty of games and either could make the position theirs, but on matchday 1 given free choice I'd be starting Amad.

Why does Heaven know when he'll return? Are we making the players treat each other now?

Would be nice to get more attacking and full back signings in. We need reinforcements.

Not rashford and zirkzee.

While I'm excited for the season ahead, it's quite disappointing that we've only got one new first XI starter. Really doesn't feel like we've strengthened as we've only replaced one of our better players from last season.

We don’t have the money it seems. We’ll be doing well to get top 4

In the 17 games after Carrick was appointed, we were 3 points clear at the top of the table from that point on. Not sure how improving the squad depth from there would lead us to struggling for top 4.

At the moment, it does seem that way. Of course, Ineos could surprise us with a big signing, but it doesn't look likely.

Just your average "make the CL and underspend/no value in the market" type of summer.

It may never change until we get new owners.

"Ideally, we do it next season, and if not, then the following season. I think we're in a good place."

What are these quotes then by our CEO? I don't think anyone comes out with direct statements like that, when there's no money and it's obvious we won't be able to compete in the market. It's also not as if it will fool the majority of people and if we continue to scrape the bottom of the barrel all throughout the window, eventually even the most optimistic fan will eventually catch on and sour on their supposed vision.

You’d have a point if we were the only team “strengthening “ As of right now Liverpool, city , arsenal & spurs have a much better midfield. Arguably Liverpool too.
You sign players to improve your starting 11 and push further up the table. Transfer window isn’t finished yet but as of now yes I am fully convinced we’ll struggle to get top 4. I do think Tielemans was good business for the price b

Without Casemiro we have lost a lot of competitiveness in midfield and defense. Lost a few headed goals too. Santos is a good prospective signing, but won't come close to replacing him yet next season. On top of that we have big issues at center-back, even before the injuries to De Ligt and now Martinez. We also haven't improved our mediocre fullback options and if Sesko is out, playing Zirkzee or shunting Mbeumo into the striker spot won't make up for it either.

Combined with a tougher schedule, there is every reason to see us struggling for Top 4. This squad still needs major reinforcements. At the moment it isn't good enough.

Good thing there’s 6 weeks left of the window.

I'd be tempted by this and a technical approach, but not enough depth for it.

So the 4231 with Sesko up top is definitely looking like the way to go. For me Mbeumo hasn't been firing for a while, so I'd start with Amad.

The only team that clearly has a better midfield than ours is City. Arsenal's is fine but they are far better defensively, and Liverpool and Spurs both got dogwalked in the middle of the park by our guys.

I never understand this weird underrating of our team. We came 3rd comfortably last year and were the best team in the league points wise after hiring Carrick. Expecting us to contend for 5th-6th after upgrading our midfield (and most likely wide areas) is strange to me.

This is more like it. Be very happy if we pulled them signings off. Some of the first team sheets on this page are very underwhelming and wouldn’t even get us top 8

Ye no chance we go for a midfield diamond. Just because we’re signing 2/3 midfielders. Doesn’t mean we’ll try and fit them all in. We have and always will play better when playing wide. Nothing els suits us.

Counting chickens, etc. Liverpool had the universally accepted best transfer window ever last year and they were so much worse than they were the year prior, despite strengthening a number of positions. They'll obviously get better this year, but judging purely on who's splashing the cash has been proven silly even in the immediate past season.

It was a joke -- "only heaven knows..." is a common idiom in English.

But I do like the suggestion of players treating each other now!

That disappoints me as well, but a useful of thinking about the upcoming season is that no matter we were to do there's no chance we're competing for a treble. We've lost a bit of pulling power as we've seen from Anderson going with City over United (though in his case I think we've dodged a bullet) and players who might have tempted in the past such as Tchouameni just aren't taking United seriously. We need something small before we can seriously compete for the cream of the crop. Going for depth makes sense in another sense -- putting in long runs in all four competitions as even if we come up just short in all four competitions, restores some of the pulling power that we used to have.

But beyond that, we may have next (post-prime) Casemiro with Tielemans, and if Rashford is to stay at OT I'm actually confident that he'll approach his prior form for us, which gives us flexibility at CF between Cunha and Sesko, and I expect Sesko to have a fantastic season for us.

My real concern right now is at both fullback positions. We all know about Shaw running on his last fumes, and between Dalot and Mazraoui we have two fullbacks who can do a job but neither of whom present a real threat in the final third.

Chelsea and Liverpool might not implode this season? However, Villa have lost two key players.

I'd take that any day. Very good starting quality and depth. Some injury concerns, but with decent squad management I could hopefully be alleviated.

We will probably start the season with players who didn’t go to the World Cup or became a passenger:

Season Start Team:

————————— Darlow —————————
Yoro —— Maguire —— Heaven —— Shaw
————— Santos ——— Mainoo —————
————————— Mount —————————
Mbeumo ———— Sesko ————— Dorgu

World Cup Players fully rested & ready:

———————— Lammens ————————
Dalot —— De Ligt — Martinez —— Maze
————— Tielemens — Mainoo —————
———————— Fernandes ————————
Mbeumo ———— Sesko ————— Cunha

Yeah I think so too. With Mainoo and Santos as our other options, we won’t be screwed by an injury in midfield. I think we can absorb the risk.

Agree with you. If we're working with a limited budget, I'd rather spread it across the squad than spend big on a third expensive central midfielder. We're really lacking quality at full-back and could do with more depth up front. I do think we could do with a solid starting CB but would also like to see how Heaven and Yoro get on this season.

The CB question is so huge for us. We just don’t know when De Ligt comes back, but before he went out he was fantastic. Martinez, injuries bedevil him but he also was fantastic for us. But fitness is the worry. Heaven is, and I’m going to use the word, a fantastic young CB. Yoro, I’m not sure yet what to make of him, but he came to us very highly regarded. Maguire still has quality miles on him and after what I saw in the World Cup he absolutely should should have started for England. Shaw and Mazraoui can be called on at CB.

So, do we roll the dice on who we have or do we cut bait on Martinez and bring in a new CB or do we use those proceeds instead on a LB?
