Simply put...This sucks. I am not going to lie I massively underestimated how serious this Virus was and can admit I was wrong. Now after 2 weeks I miss sports like a junkie needs his fix. Obviously the health and well being of everyone is the most important and everything else is secondary.

I think this shows how much sports is a apart of our daily lives (sports fans). Since I was young I played and watched Football when ever a game was on (basketball as well) so now that it’s gone I’ve never wanted to back so bad.

I miss the goals I miss the atmosphere I miss everything about it :(

I hope we kick this virus right in the ass sooner rather then later!

Agreed. It's trivial but it's important.

One of the great things about football is that throughout my life it's always been there for me. Even when I was too busy or too sad or too caught up in other things to watch it, I knew it would be there when I wanted to look at it again.

It's also something that helps link families and friends together, particularly across the generations or across geographical separation. It's all very well saying that you should now talk to them about more important things, but that really isn't how things work.

In my list of visual entertainment a United game is number 1 by a million miles. Movies and TV are so boring. Man Utd vs Colchester >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Breaking Bad or Peaky Blinders.

It's annoying that it had to happen when we started looking very exciting. Wouldn't mind so much if we were looking as dull as we were earlier in the season.

Yeah it's a bit typical, had this happened practically any other point since Fergie retired I doubt we'd be fussed, a break from that Utd team would be an odd blessing.

Yeah it’s horrendous, I use football as a coping mechanism with my depression & anxiety, it would give me a break from reality for a few hours, I’m struggling but hopefully everyone is okay

I miss it but I have learnt more in 1 week by watching documentaries and reigniting some intellectual interests I had, than in maybe 2 years or something. I missed being intellectually productive, feels like football melted a huge chunk of my brain in past 10 years or so.

I often think when people say that its just sport or just entertainment, that if we imagine our lives without any sports, without any tv shows, without any movies, people will realize how important are these things. When you come home tired from work, you want some sort of entertainment. We work so we can enjoy our favorite form of entertainment in peace, be it travel or sports or video games or clubbing or whatever. So when people trivialize these entertainment avenues, it rubs me the wrong way.

This current situation is a perfect example of how much we need entertainment. People who are confined to home and getting paid, because they are working from home, are still struggling because barring TV and streaming sites, all other entertainment is now off-limits. Now imagine if there's an internet breakdown or this situation carries on for months, with nothing new to watch, then I'd like to ask people who scoff at the value of these things about how they intend to spend their days?

Don't really miss it just yet, I'm catching up on all kinds of classic games and stuff like that. I'd only be really gutted if the NFL would be cancelled.

Agreed.

I have plenty other hobbies to fill my time (e.g. reading, competitive gaming, gardening, marine aquarium) but no football is still leaving a huge gap.

The solution is simple. Have 20 members of the caf film themselves in kit (ideally 10 in one colour and 10 in another):
  • receiving a ball
  • passing a ball
  • shooting a ball
  • running with ball
  • running off the ball
  • going in for a slide tackle
  • doing a kick-off
  • running towards a ball and falling down
  • diving (show everything including feet)
  • pretending you've been tackled by a player (don't show feet)
  • losing the ball
  • seeing a loose ball and running towards it
  • taking a throw-in
  • receiving a ball from a throw-in
  • taking a penalty
  • taking a corner
  • taking a freekick
  • standing in a wall
  • receiving a ball from a corner and heading it
  • receiving a ball from a corner and shooting
  • doing a 'hand of god'
  • headbutting camera
  • act as if you've been headbutted and go down
  • same as above but roll on floor a few times with hands over face, but looking through fingers smiling
  • celebrating a goal
  • doing VAR signal
  • shouting at the camera (ref)
  • putting two fingers up at the camera (ref)
  • shake head from opponent scoring a goal
  • letting ball hit your hand and look sad as ref has given freekick/penalty
  • walk off camera as if you've been sent off
Then have 2 members of the caf film themselves in front of goalposts (both in different coloured kit):
  • catching a ball
  • punching a ball away
  • conceding a goal
  • diving to save
  • goalkick
  • passing ball
  • catching ball but slips out of your fingers
  • ball hitting post and going back out
  • ball hitting post and going in goal
  • ball hitting post, bounce off, hit goalkeeper in face and go in net
  • basically, just watch this
Then have one person in black kit film themselves:
  • holding up yellow card
  • holding up red card and pointing off camera
  • running
  • wheezing with hands on knees trying to get breath back
  • blowing whistle for foul
  • pointing to penalty spot
  • using some sort of aerosol to set up freekick
  • doing VAR signal
  • blowing whistle for kick-off, half-time and full-time
Then have another person in black kit with a flag film themselves:
  • running across a straight line looking at the pitch
  • holding up the flag
  • back view of both
Then have two people film themselves (one wearing suit, one trackies):
  • sitting down
  • sitting down shouting
  • sitting down talking to someone
  • barking instructions standing up
  • arguing with someone (fourth official)
  • celebrating a goal
  • act pissed off at a decision
  • act as if your player has been hurt/want opposition player to be punished
  • shaking someone's hand off camera (opposition manager)
  • go to shake someone's hand but they blank you (react disappointed)
  • see someone shake your hand but walk away blanking them (smirk)
Then have one more person in black kit film themselves:
  • doing fourth official things
Then have a kid film themselves:
  • doing ball boy stuff
Then have someone record themselves (audio only):
  • doing various chants including "the referee's a wanker" and "feck VAR"
  • booing
  • cheering
  • whistling
Then have @Rolandofgilead commentate a number of catchphrases, someone can splice everything together with the audio overlayed to make a match and you're looking at the next Cannes Film Festival winner. I spent way too much time on something unlikely to get one green smiley.

Just thought about eSports. I never really watched it but maybe the virus could become a chance for it? One could give it a try

I don't miss it myself. Which documentaries did you watch? And if you don't mind me asking, which intellectual interests have you pursued?

Let me know when you want clips and I’ll see if I can find the time. I’m doing a live podcast tomorrow for the football club to try and keep the fans entertained and we are going to be setting up a supply drop for vulnerable locals etc and that’s gonna take up time. But I’ll see what I can do @Damien

Im glad I am not the only one who just feels something is missing! It’s been there all my life and as some said on here I’ve used it to get away from reality at times, or even just getting the chance to watch your heroes or people you idolize. I think it was taken from granted now that it’s temporarily gone.

Absolutely agree with all of this, but on top of that the one thing I hadn’t realised before everything stopped was how much I see sport as a calendar. The six nations is the start of spring, the FA Cup final the start of summer, the Euros are always an evening summer affair, Wimbledon for me is the middle of summer, start of the season the end etc etc, I hadn’t realised how much of my life revolves around it.

The bolded part is so true. Even when you can’t or won’t watch it for whatever the reason you know you can always go back to it and without that comfort blanket you feel the void it leaves massively.

It’s always been a release for me to get lost for a couple of hours in a game and not think about the day to day stresses.

For me, the one positive is that if we do finish the season, we're likely to see Rashford, Martial, Pogba and Fernandes together for a bit. If we had carried on as normal, I don't think we would have got to see them four on the pitch together at all.

And I was starting to really enjoy our games recently as well :(

Sucks that football will be on hold for a long while.

There's a 2 1/2 hour documentary about Diego Maradonna on Channel4 tomorrow at 9pm. I mean, there will be some football in it!

I'm going a bit mad. Which is weird, because at times under Mourinho and Moyes* I'd have been delighted to not have to think about or watch any football for a couple of months. But the timing, when we're on such a good run of results and look to have more upward momentum than we have for years, is pretty cruel. Could badly do with the escapism of watching Bruno, Martial, Ighalo, Greenwood et al smash in a few belters.

*For some reason I never got very dispirited about actually watching us under LVG. And even during bad runs of results, I've consistently enjoyed the football we've played under Ole right from the start. I don't claim that any of the above is rational, it's just how it is.

There’s currently a $50000 age of empires 2 tournament going on if anyone is interested. Search for Hidden Cup or the streamers membtv/t90official. It’s great fun to watch.
