Set your watch by it.. United win, the media will have to find some reason it's tainted.

Sky Sports: Man Utd see off Palace, with the help of VAR

"With the help of VAR"... Are they having a chuckle?

Where was "Southampton earn draw with United, with help of VAR"? - In fact, did anyone in the media even mention the Romeu red card after the match?!

The problems seem to be the offside and the penalty rejection.

The penalty - Maybe it was. But I didn't see much difference between that and the one on Martial. Both nipped the ball then took the players legs. Give one, give both. Refuse one, refuse both. It evened out.

The offside - Ok harsh. But it WAS technically offside. Unlike Rashford's goal ruled offside vs Bournemouth which VAR showed was marginally ONSIDE but still ruled out. Again, is that mentioned after the match?

I can handle the media being this way, it shows United are going something right. But I hope Solskjaer starts biting back at these pricks and stops wishing them Happy fecking Birthday in his press conferences. They're a bunch of snides who'd stab him in the back with a seconds notice for a scoop.

It's offside, it's offside. Can't change the rules to fit a narrative.

It's not a penalty. Lindelof was actually brave and tackled well on that one.

I don't think we deserved the win yesterday but on the other hand we were very unlucky against Southampton so the media can go f... themselves. We are playing very well offensive wise and deserve to be in the position to have destiny in our own hands.

Not a fan of the way VAR has been used to make subjective decisions but I dont get the griping about offsides. If you are a mm off youre off. Dont complain - time your run better

And yet, they do not talk about all the times VAR made the wrong calls against us (not that VAR was wrong in this one).

Romeu should have had a red last game, yet VAR did nothing. If Southampton go down to 10 men, we win that game.

I think we are probably being overly sensitive here. The story is more VAR, as opposed to United being the beneficiaries of it. I mean, the press make similar headlines in most matches these days, as there are contentious decisions all over the place.

What bugged a bit, not much though, was how in the post match interview both Rashford and Ole were asked on how Martial wasn’t doing much but suddenly came alive.

I was sitting there thinking whether these guys had even watched the game. Martial was one of the best, if not the best, player on the pitch with exceptional work rate and hold up play. Over the past 2 games we’ve scored 4 goals. Martial has scored 2 and assisted the other 2. But no, the questions wouldn’t be on that. He can do absolutely nothing to avoid criticism.

Media will media.
Dont worry about it.
This. Learning to let go and not worry about what the media/pundits say was when I really began to enjoy being a football fan.
I don't have canniptions when a pundit is being biased or I see a contentious narrative pushed by the papers. Very liberating.

We must be decent again if the ABU media element is spinning back up.

Good . Must mean we are becoming a threat again . I always loved the Flag at United Games "Hated, Adored ,Never ignored." For too long we have been ignored and Laughed at . I want this team to strike fear into the rest of the premiership and if that comes with ABU media Great .

Exactly. Laugh at them and their efforts to be relevant.

I honest to fecking god, cannot understand this VAR and offside chat that keeps polluting the post-match analysis.

Last night, people were complaining on BT that the Palace goal should have been given, despite them all agreeing he was offside, just because "you don't like to see goals like that disallowed". Can you fecking believe that?

Where's the line then? "Well he was only 1/2/5/10/15 yards offside, would be a shame to disallow it". If you're offside, you're offside, there's no debate to be had around it. Anyone getting upset about it has an agenda against the team that was on the right side of the decision.

I was watching the the NBC footage. They've been gushing over us on that channel since the restart, especially that American fella in the studio, Martino. I quite like him. He used be a bit miserable about us (understandably, since we've been shit for ages) but now he's a converted fan, bangs on about Mason Greenwood every moment he gets.

But Andy Townsend on co-commentary didn't think it was a penalty, and as they drew the line on the pitch both him and the commentator said he's off. There wasn't much fuss about either call, other than talking about the VAR offside decisions being a little harsh in general, which I get that. We had one against Huddersfield where Mata's kneecap was offside, and the one a couple of weeks back where even with the lines on the pitch drawn, Rashford didn't look offside, so it must've been centimetres at most. When it's as marginal as that, it's harsh, but it's the rule.

It's still a much, much better system than one based around human error where offside goals are given and non-offside goals are chalked off regularly.

Can we stop saying this. We have attackers that can make a difference at any moment in devastating fashion, which they duly did. Defenders that defended well enough and a goalie that couldn't be beaten. That's not luck or undeserved. Our opponents simply came up short.

The whole point of VAR was to rule out contentious decisions. If it’s not going to do that and just slow things down let’s be rid of it and go back to how it was.

BT was a joke last night though. Going on and on about the Zaha / Lindelof incident and then being adamant VAR shouldn't be used the way it is for offsides (ignoring the fact the guy actually was offside).
Then Ole was asked post match about the possible Palace penalty, immediately said he didn't think it was and if people thought it should have been then Martial should have had one as well. Cut back to the studio and no one mentions the Martial one, only the wrong decisions Palace got.

Both decisions were correct, I’m really not sure what all the fuss was about. BT was pathetic and desperately wanted to make a big story out of nothing.

Not sure about the pen. Like the ex ref on BT said, and I said at the time, you can’t go through a players legs (particularly from behind) even if you touch the ball as well.

The notion that ‘he got the ball!!’ isnt in the rules. Fouling the player whilst making contact with the ball is still a foul. It was a pen. But I’m happy it wasn’t given.

To anyone from the media reading this, and I know they do: kindly shut up. Don’t speak about Zaha-Lindelof if you don’t do likewise for Romeu’s assault on Greenwood, and don’t even mention the offside if you don’t do the same for Marcus against Bournemouth.

Journalism has really hit the gutter these days, and BT Sport aren’t too far behind.

ABU media is a huge complement. They hate us, but they've been able to let it slide because it looks bad to kick a guy when you're down for too long.
The only annoying thing is the absolute Klopp/Liverpool love in will never end. They could win the league for 40 years in a row and you wouldnt get the media hate like they do for us.

Agree with this. I even posted in match thread that Martial was running around like a mad man off the ball and tracking back, and that was a transformation for him vs his efforts under Mourinho.

I was equally surprised by media question and glad Ole told them to fcuk off.

I think some in the media have an agenda against United, usually ex Liverpool players like Souness, Stevie Nichol, Charlie Nicholas ect....
Unfortunately don't see it on this, we got lucky. If the decisions were against us we would be angry, especially the penalty. VAR is harsh but technically right. Never shows frames ball leaving the foot either to the line, depends on how you look at it. I'll take it everyday but we rode our luck big time. We played poor last night but got the result, let's not spin the narrative on this one. Abu media is a thing though.

On the other hand, if the media hadn't mentioned those two talking points, then it would seem as if they were sticking up for us over Palace and seemingly blotting out all criticism of a big club.

To be honest, I would have been miffed if we had had those two decisions go against us, even though the Palace lad was a whisker off and the penalty was not absolutely clear cut. Hard to argue that they weren't unlucky in that regard, or that they didn't deserve at least a goal for their efforts.

I think what rankles is not that Palace are getting support from the media, but the lingering frustration from the So'ton game in which Romeu effectively got away with a potential legbreaker on one of our brightest young players. It was an injustice compounded by a poor result and the fact that Greenwood could have been severely hurt. That sort of challenge shouldn't go unpunished.

No surprise either that Mason hasn't been himself since it happened.

Its funny, Romeu should have been sent off against us in the opening half vs Southampton. I didn't see a "Southampton snatch draw with the help of VAR" title.

Its the narrative that gets clicks...very much like populist newspaper headlines! We are the biggest club in the land and get the biggest viewing figures so they have to make hey to ensure attention following day.

Yeah, I’m not disputing that. Simply saying that I disagree with the premise of this thread. The press are not claiming that United disproportionately benefit from VAR decisions. They love making a big thing of it in all fixtures.

Offside is offside, and the thing about it is that now there's absolute consistency. Ayew is offside, but the exact same decision would have been made against Martial. These calls will even out over the course of a season, I don't see an issue. And this 'margin' is just ridiculous.

On the penalty, it's a 50/50 call, move on. Like the OP said, the media made no mention of Romeu's blatant red. The media is getting on the ABU train again? That tells me one thing; We're relevant again. Bring it on.
