I may be mistaken, but I find the logic of some posters baffling. Have I read that we shouldn't sign players such as this because we have Lindelof, Bailly, Tuanzebe etc players who for one reason or another arnt good enough or are always injured but can still do a "job"? I find this crackers, we don't need to keep players who just do a job, we need to be always evolving all the time and constantly looking for improvements to the squad and team. That's what makes champion teams, particularly when you get the recruitment right.

We can't settle for average or give endless amounts of time hoping prospects come good, including players that have come through the United system.

This kid and Haaland should be huge prioritys regardless of Tuanzebe, Bailly, Maguire, Lindelof, Jones, Rojo,Smalling, McGrath , Pallister and Greenwood
hahaha made me laugh out loud, Facundo Pallisteri

Jules Kounde is who we should be signing. Konate's injury issues is a concern considering Bailly who is a decent defender but unfit in most seasons.

I never realised there were so many strength and conditioning coaches on here
The Caf has some weird fixations on physique. Players either need to bulk up to withstand the brutality of the Prem, or are too large to move quickly because they are muscular. Coming from someone watching NBA and NFL athletes, the latter especially is quite bizarre.

Looks the part but his injury record is concerning. Would probably still be our best CB instantly.

Are the injury concerns genuine or has he just been unlucky in the past 2 years? Could be the deciding factor between him and Milenković.

Combine that with the cheaper price (1 year left on his deal) and Milenković seems the safer bet.

You could be right mate and Kounde could well be the answer next to Maguire. But you have to understand that I'm very Jurgen Klopp like when it comes to CBs and have always favoured CBs that are tall, athletic and technical. So please take what I say with a pinch of salt because it doesn't mean I'm right.

He was out for almost a year and when he returned the same injury played up again and he had to have surgery which seems to have done the trick. He sprained his ankle soon after and missed some games but is back in the Leipzig squad once again so it'll be interesting to see if he can remain injury free and recapture the form that made one German media outlet name him their player of the year at only 19 and described him as a phenomenon.

But I'm all for Kounde too, because you're someone who like me loves the technical aspect of the game and I doubt you'd want Kounde if he wasn't extremely talented on the ball. Pau Torres is another CB that we've been linked with in recent times and he may also be someone that might be of interest, eventhough I know very little about him.
I get where you're coming from man, I just don't think there as many big strikers to worry about these days, Kounde only lacks the height but has the leap, truth is though I'd not have concerns over Konate if it wasn't Maguire he'd be partnering.

Thanks for the info mate, I think he's like Zakaria, he can be evaluated better in 5 months time as regards to any potential long standing injury proneness.

Oh yeah, whichever CB we get I want them to be technically good on the ball as Ole is clearly keen for us to play out from the back, and Kounde and Konate are both quality in that aspect of their game. Pau Torres is an interesting option, not seen a lot of him but he's certainly quicker than you'd imagine and like with most Spanish CB's he's good on the ball.

Isn't that Sven Botman supposed to be talented? Lille OSC are top of Ligue 1 so they must be doing something right.
Good shout! Forgot him.

Plenty off options. We should be able to make a good signing at CB if we do our homework!

Between Dayot & Konate ====>Konate wins in Height / Injury record / Pace / Tackles //// Dayot is better with Dribbling -& Passing

Persnally think any of him, Varane, Kounde, Botman, maybe even Milenkovic or Carmo too is an upgrade on Lindelof

I haven't seen anything of Botman but have heard him mentioned a few times. What kind of a player is he?

Will be honest I don't know a massive amount about him myself but I am sure someone in this forum can give you a bit more of a background on what type of player he is. The way I see it he cannot be a bad player if someone like the scousers were looking to sign him in the January window.

There is at least one poster that is high on him, but there is so much discussion on CB‘s I don’t recall where his Sven summary was.

Maguire is best alongside a pacey partner as seen with Bailly so I think from what I’ve seen Kounde would be the best bet followed by Konate but in an ideal world we’d sign Kounde and Botman and get rid of Lindelof and Jones although I doubt that’d happen.

I'd be asking, why has he only started 10 games within that time, if he's so good?
They over-played him as a teenager where he was thrust into the team after Upamecano was ruled out for the season. He then performed at such a high level that they couldn't drop him and he played every minute in the Bundesliga for them. He was then selected for France in the u21 European Championships and also played 5 games as a starting CB. And then with a short break he joined up with Leipzig for the new season who had a new Head Coach in place. And the consensus is that the volume of games he had to play without a proper rest in the close season contributed to him suffering a muscle injury which has caused him plenty of issues. But he did have surgery to rectify the issue for good and according to Julien Nagelsmann they're optimistic the surgery will be the end of his injury issues.

https://liverpooloffside.sbnation.c...ender-ibrahima-konate-van-dijk-gomez-injuries

"For example, RB Leipzig has had ongoing injury issues with Ibrahima Konaté. Since the 2018/19 campaign, when the then 19-year-old Konaté racked up 31 appearances for Leipzig—including 27 Bundesliga starts—the player has had over 300 days on the injured list. This includes a torn muscle fiber, which kept him out of the side from October 2019 to May 2020, and a problem with a hip flexor muscle, that kept him out form May to October this year."

But given how quick he is...

Is his mobility an issue? Not heard that it’s a problem
He's quick in a straight line but my concern is that Maguire's partner needs to get across the pitch to cover in behind him, Konate is mobile for his size but from when I've seen him I feel he'd struggle to get across the pitch to cover Maguire as he's a big unit and his speed isn't off the mark.

Agreed. I would go for someone more mobile.

If any club decides to sign him they'll have the medical reports at hand to decipher through before making a decision.

Hopefully he can overcome his injury issue and the surgery undertook recently has also been mentioned by Nagelsmann as something they believe will help him overcome the problem. But when fully fit he's the most dominant CB i've ever seen at a young age where he could defend high up the pitch and thwart attacks on the ground and also dominate aerially. Of course there's still room for improvement and that will come in the coming seasons as he develops further.

He's also very mobile for a big guy but don't expect him to cover Maguire if the back line is closer to the half way line. No CB can cover the opposite defensive zone in such a scenario. But what signing him could do is create a balance where we don't just rely on Maguire to win aerial balls and he would also open up the possibility of us resting Maguire without worrying too much about losing Maguire's aerial dominance.

The last thing we need is another injury prone defender however talented he is. Just stay away!

Another crock...just what we dont need
Typically I would disagree with these types of statements but I can't see how the club would pin their hopes on Konate, he's missed far too many fixtures throughout his professional career.

Kounde should be the priority.

Who would be your first choice then
Good question :) I m not a scout though.
On paper Kuonde or White but both would cost a lot.
I won't be surprised if we buy more than one if Jones and maybe Bailly or Tuanzebe leave.

My only concern with Kounde is his lack of height compared to most top CB's but you can't help but enjoy that goal he scored last night which was impressive, would take Ramos too if we were able to sign more than one but not if it's at the expense of someone younger and quicker.
