Well, it seems tha Zlatan could get the No.8. For now, we have these players with the main numbers.
  1. De Gea
  2. ?
  3. ?
  4. Jones
  5. Rojo
  6. ?
  7. Memphis
  8. Mata
  9. Martial
  10. Rooney
  11. Januzaj
I guess Shaw could wear the No.3 and our new CM the No.6.
What else would you change?

Shaw already switched from 3 to 23, he isn't going to switch back.

Slack jawed yokels can have good taste in football
Valencia gave it up himself. Fellaini gave up the 31 willingly for Schweini. I don't think the club has ever said to a player "listen we're gonna need your shirt number back to give it to another player".
I believe David May wasn't happy he had to give up his #4 to Veron

I don't mind what he wears, but he seems like the type that would like the pressure of one of the more famed shirt numbers.

I've not read through the thread but I'll add another vote to him getting Rooney's #10, I'm pretty sure I'm not the first to suggest it :)

And what would Rooney get?

Clubs. Do. Not. Take. Numbers. From. Players. It very rarely happens. Even Zlatan will have to settle with a free number unless someone gives up their number.

No way should Ibra get 9, Martial's the future, Ibra's only a short-term solution.

He is to be handed a nr. 8 but that info is from the Sport Bible so it's probably bollocks.

8 doesn't sound too bad, although it means Mata is probably out (surely for the best though, wish him the best).

#10 would have been perfect, but that's a non-goer for obvious reasons. Likewise #9 with Martial. Wouldn't mind seeing him take #11 as I doubt Januzaj will last beyond the summer anyway.

Heinze left that same year.

Besides, I said "very rarely". To be honest I could possibly see Zlatan being an exception but no way are they going to take Martial, Rooney or Memphis' number from them. They all sell a tonne of shirts themselves. Possibly Januzaj, if he's off.

8 sounds about right. Don't see Mou and Mata working together to be honest. Mata should go back to some top 6 club in Spain, would do much better there than Everton I reckon.

The road is my home.
For Zlatan the shirt number should represent his wages. Whatever he wants.

United and the league in general should accommodate this legend. Period.

I think it's time to stop assigning players to these ridiculous high numbers. With the current squad I would just

1. De Gea
2. Bailly
3. Shaw
4. Jones
5. Rojo
6. Smalling
7. Martial
8. Schweinsteiger
9. Ibrahimovic
10. Rooney
11. Mkhitaryan
12. Romero
13. Mata
14. Schneiderlin
15. Herrera
16. Carrick
17. Blind
18. Young
19. Depay
20. Januzaj
21. Fellaini
22. Lingard
23. Rashford
24. Fosu-Mensah
25. Valencia
26. Borthwick-Jackson

I don't know if this has been mentioned but i have started reading his book and he says in it that he doesn't care what number is on his back, although he does recognise the importance of certain numbers at clubs.

He isn't going to kick up fuss over it.

I was just thinking about 10 minutes ago that the whole scenario of Zlatan saying to one of the United staff "what number am I getting?" shows just how little he cares. If it meant anything to him he'd have asked this long before then.

He strikes me as the type that couldn't care less what number he wears.
