While some countries are busy participating in certain measuring contests, the rest of us can look forward to the sporting highlight of the year which is less than three months away.

"The 2019 Cricket World Cup (officially ICC Cricket World Cup 2019) is the 12th edition of the Cricket World Cup, scheduled to be hosted by England and Wales, from 30 May to 14 July 2019.

The format for the tournament will be a single group of ten teams, with each team playing the other nine teams, and the top four teams progressing to a knockout stage of semi-finals and a final. The ten team tournament has gained criticism due to the lack of Associate teams in the tournament. Given the increase of the Test playing nations from 10 to 12, with the admission of Ireland and Afghanistan in June 2017, it will be the first World Cup to be contested without all of the Test playing nations being present, and after the elimination of all the Associate teams at the qualifying tournament, this will be also be the first World Cup to feature no Associate members.
    "

Teams: Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies

We'll have bizarre team selections every single game and try our best to fail spectacularly.

England & India are the standout teams. England’s batting has been very good & consistent in ODIs for a while now so they’re my favourites.

Hopefully India don’t cruise to the final, win the toss and elect to bowl first. Still can’t get over that decision from Kohli, why choose to chase in a final?

Got tickets to England vs Afghanistan. Could be a bit of a banana skin for England that one.

I was sure he would have retired by now, is only damaging his legacy at this point.

Pant has to start over him surely.

    England should win easily.

Incredible batting lineup. If the pitches are flat which they'll be impossible to beat.

Also just have to say ICC is fecking stupid to allow only 15 man squads in such a big tournament.

England, India and New Zealand will be 3 of the 4 semi finalists. Just who joins them is anybody's guess. I hope Smith and Warner are mentally strong enough to deal with receptions they'll get while they're in England for the World Cup and the Ashes.

England are too prone to a collapse to be any certainty. They will get to the knockout stages but from there on it's anyone's guess depending on the pitch.

I hope Gayle continues his form. Would love to see Windies challenging for the trophy & playing like they have done in the england series.

There are doubts in their bowling but their batting is amazing. There's actually a chance that Root might be their worst ODI batsman in the ODI right now.

Our bowling isn’t good enough to challenge in my opinion. It’s just far too hit and miss these days in ODI, and when it’s bad, it’s really really bad. Like leaking 400+ runs bad. It would be nice to see us at least reach the knockout round, but I just can’t see it happening.

Yeah I think teams would actually prefer not to get Root out and keep Morgan and Buttler in the clubhouse.

With a middle order of Jadhav Rayudu and Dhoni? Unlikely.

We'll be clobbered on a flat pitch by England.

We don't need to beat them in the groups.

Knock-out games - anything goes, and I trust a great defense vs a great offense. We have brilliant bowling.

The group stage is tiresomely long, though, and I hope we have our team intact by the end of it.

England are a great flat track batting side, but one dimensional. I think Wood has done enough to keep Archer out, and I am happy about that.

It's mad how Root scores at the same rate as Pietersen in ODIs and he's the batsman you're least worried about.

England will drop a bollock at a critical point, need Archer in for Willey I fancy. Kohli will do the biz when it matters.

Also worth remembering that the ICC will be in charge of the pitches and going by last summer being ridiculous sod's law will have it that it will rain all summer this year.

This is the key point. ICC aren't interested in pancakes, they want a fairly even contest between bat and ball.

From England's point of view, if they've learnt anything from the last event they've got to prepare bowling friendly pitches for the Pakistan series. No point tonking teams for world record scores on absolute roads in bilateral games and then get caught completely off guard when forced to play on worn pitches late in tournaments.

Even ICC will make flat pitches. More runs means more entertainment to the casual viewer which means better ratings. They won't give a feck about pure cricket and rightly so.

BCCI in all their wisdom has decided to have an IPL just before the WC.

Although it would be great to see balanced pitches, flat pitches have become the norm in these tournaments, ICC would rather see 350+ scores with batsmen with 100+ s/r than a close low scoring match.

    They won't choke this year.

They will just get beaten convincingly. By a number of teams. Poor team. Poor management. One of the worst South African teams to go to a world cup.
