If you could sell and sign 2 players in Defence, Midfield and Attack who would it be?

I think this would be the quickest and most efficient way of conducting an overhaul of the squad.

Removing clear deadwood or underperforming players and replacing them with potential or clear talent.

This would result in quick wins to improve the squad.

Mine are
Attack OUT - Sanchez and Mata
Attack IN - Sancho and Joao Felix

Midfield OUT - Matic and Herrera
Midfield IN - Rodri and Neves

Defence OUT - Smalling and Darmian
Defence IN - De Ligt and Wan Bissaka

Whilst there are many more players I would like rid of I'm trying to be realistic changing only a maximum of 6 players in the summer.

Of all the players that could go, you'd keep Young?

Why is Mata out? Saw some stats that of all the premier league subs this season, he has gained the most points . Still has a lot to offer .

Matic and ?
Rice and Eriksen

Rojo and Jones
Varane and Cancelo

I'm ignoring the obvious leavers in Valencia and Darmian. I'd like to keep most of our midfielders as they all offer something bar Matic

You would sell Smalling (our first choice CB) over Rojo (who never plays)?

Some of the players people are suggesting are a joke, you may as well suggest signing Messi
It explains all the clear out/overhaul threads that we have. People literally believe we have a limitless pot of money and can just get rid of players for free, and sign anyone we want.

The club would be bankrupt within a transfer window if we were ever fan owned

It's delusional, we're possibly going to be without champions League football yet again, and people think the biggest stars in the game are going to come and sign for us

Well, we're not signing six players anyway. Five tops. More likely three or four.

Because I honestly couldn't think of another midfielder to sell. :wenger:

For the sake of the fantasy:

Out: Rojo, Darmian (both obvious), Herrera (sadly), Pogba (If get big money: he's nice frosting on a cake of shit), Sanchez (obvious) and Lukaku (isn't good enough and worth more than the others)

In: Meunier (experience whilst Dalot develops), De Ligt (never happening but he's the obvious choice), Neves (Matic upgrade), No idea... someone who can pass (Verratti?), Felix (our sort of signing) and Bale (If reasonable price. Patch him up with duct tape)

Attack
OUT: Mata - Lingard
IN: Sancho - Joao Felix

Sanchez is slightly better player than Lingard, and Alexis can also play as striker if needed.

Midfield
OUT: Matic - Pereira
IN: Neves - Bruno Fernandes

Herrera is better than Pereira. Also, he can play as No.6

Defense
OUT: Rojo - Darmian
IN: De Ligt - WanBissaka

I would include Young and Jones in the list. And I would sign Alderweireld (25m) and Meunier to improve our defense.

Unfortunately, we are not going to sign 6 players. We would be lucky if we sign 4 quality players.

Piracy on the High Seas.
Attack: Sancho and Jović for Alexis and Lukaku (need to raise money for the warchest).
Midfield: Rodri and van de Beek for Matić and Mata.
Defense: De Ligt and Andersen for Darmian and Rojo.

Not particularly cheap or realistic or out-of-the-box! At least £170m for the attackers, £100m for the midfielders and £110 for the defenders? One thing I really like about the team, aside from the obvious talent of the Front 6 and 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 versatility, is the possession triangle between De Ligt, Andersen, Rodri — from having one of the weaker central defensive passing hubs at elite clubs to potentially one of the strongest (quite imposing too, with an average height of about ~6'3"). Fullback position is a bit iffy and thin in terms of depth, but I'm still a big believer in Dalot, and you could also introduce Laird, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm as much a Muppet as the next guy, but you've got to be slightly realistic. Take Sancho for instance, a muppets dream, but there's at least half a shot at us getting him.

Defence:

OUT - Rojo and Darmian - That's surely a no brainer. Plus Valencia is leaving on a free (already decided).
IN - De Ligt (by far the best CB available, and young) and Wan-Bissaka (Defensively very solid, PL proven, English, young).

Midfield:

OUT - Matic and Pereira as decent fees can be gotten for both. I assume Herrera is leaving on a free anyway (probably already decided). So that's 3 out.
IN - Rice (mobile, good on the ball, physical, incredible reading of the game for his age, young and English) and Bruno Fernandes (Energetic, technical, creative, goalscoring).

Attack:

OUT - Alexis and Lukaku. Alexis needs to be off the books from a payroll perspective. And Lukaku is a potential 70M transfer fee sitting on the bench. Funds which need to be reinvested. Mata will likely leave on a free, so can't count that.
IN - Sancho is an absolute must. He ticks every box. Coutinho I believe could be gotten at a good price, and is an elite player. He'd bring dead ball expertise, and final ball precision. I'd play him on the left, and have Rashford and Martial rotate as the CF.

Potential line up:

Rashford

Coutinho ______________________ Sancho

Pogba ________ Fernandes

Rice

Shaw _________ Lindelof _________ De Ligt _________ Wan-Bissaka

De Gea

Subs: Romero, Smalling, Dalot, Fred, McTominay, Lingard, Martial

SQUAD:

GK: De Gea, Romero, Henderson
RB: Wan-Bissaka, Dalot
LB: Shaw, Young
CB: De Ligt, Smalling, Bailly
CB: Lindelof, Jones
CDM: Rice, Fred, Garner
CM: Pogba, McTominay, Fernandes, Gomes
AML: Coutinho, Lingard
AMR: Sancho, Chong
CF: Rashford, Martial, Greenwood

With Herrera and Mata leaving on a free on top of the other six, the squad might be one player light. That's a 25 man squad, but assumes real contributions from Garner, Gomes, Greenwood, and Chong. That's a judgement the manager has to make. They'll only get good enough if they get some minutes. So I'd say go for it. But I can easily see an argument for bringing in another utility player who can play anywhere along the attacking front line.

I'm not comfortable with spunking endless cash, so we do need to sell some assets, such as Lukaku. We paid 75M for him, and even when he hasn't started much, he's still our top scorer. In this market, you have to fully expect to recoup your initial investment give or take 5M.

OUT:

Rojo (7m)
Darmian (5M)
Matic (20M)
Pereira (15M)
Alexis (free)
Lukaku (70M)
Herrera (Free)
Mata (Free)

Total: 117M

IN:

De Ligt (80M)
Wan-Bissaka (40M)
Rice (50M)
Fernandes (60M)
Sancho (100M)
Coutinho (80M)

Total: 420M

Net Spend = 300M. Ouch.

Lots of the purchases will include clauses etc. But that's the sot of investment it will take.

Kind of difficult, I'm going to try and keep it realistic (in terms of budget and players we can get).

Out: Young and Rojo
In: Wan Bissaka and Alderweireld

In: Ndidi and Ruben Neves
Out: Herrera (love him but he's leaving) and Pogba/Matic

Out: Mata and Sanchez
In: the wolves striker (raul gimenez?) and a fecking right winger who can actually beat a man

For the right money I’d also trade De Gea (££££) and Romero (looked a bit dodgier this season) for Oblak and Heaton

My realistic version would be

Defence out: Rojo and Darmian (Valencia as well)
Defence in: Milenkovic and Wan Bissaka

Midfield out: Herrera and Matic
Midfield in: Bruno Fernandes and Tonali

Attack out: Mata and Lukaku
Attack in: Chiesa and Jovic

If Pogba was to go, I reckon we’d go for Saul

Midfield:

Defence:
Out: Young | Rojo
In: de Ligt | Alderweireld

Would give us good strength in depth that, I think our only “strong” part of the team is midfield so I’d happily go one in, one out there. Toby feels like a no-brainer considering our issues there and the price.
