Hard to keep track anymore, but in the past months, that's
2 ex-CMs (Kamal Nath, Ashok Chavan)
1 CM candidate (Sidhu)
1 dy CM (Ajit Pawar)
1 ex-union minister (Deora)

It's hard to even see what some of these people are getting. Chavan was the only Congress Maharashtra Lok Sabha MP to win in 2014 during the Modi wave, in a seat Modi personally campaigned in, he lost narrowly last time due to vote-splitting... and is going to RS?? That's the retirement home, he doesn't even want to fight to regain his sure-shot LS seat??

Kamal Nath and Scindia had been fighting for years and years in Congress to be CM, they are now both in a party where they are competing not just with each other, but with a popular ex-CM that BJP dumped out of spite, and a new CM chosen by the high command.

At least Ajit makes sense, with all the cases that magically vanish whenever he switches, whether it's for 3 days or for life. And Sidhu, like Nitish, does this for fun.

But the internal feedback in Cong must be awful. The party will soon be Rahul alone in some UP village and Sonia in a cancer hospital.
Well it was coming. A clown leading a party was always going to destroy the party. Although Kamal Nath leaving is hardly a loss. Actually am more surprised BJP is even considering him.

I'm even more convinced now that a non-Gandhi face would be an equal disaster. Since 2014, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Ashok Chavan, Kamal Nath, Scindia and Siddhu have left, and Sachin Pilot flirted with leaving. Probably a dozen others I don't remember. Not one person in that entire party has any ideological commitment to anything, especially the younger ones (Pilot, Scindia were supposed to be next gen  ) So there's a good chance the BJP could simply poach the Congress chief directly instead of bothering with going through the party state-by-state.

Patnaik back in NDA, more Cong govts broken, SP broken. There is no opposition, not even in name. Voters don't like voting for parties which have major loser stink, so NDA can break 400 or Rajiv's numbers.

With Modi's popularity and with the power of agencies and money, there is no leader who would be successful now. He is really bad, but nothing would work. Like United managers against Pep

Christ pardon me if this has been discussed, but this is an extreme i hadn't quite seen coming, but i dont follow Indian politics much if at all.

While I don't agree with the discriminatory nature of the bill, I am not seeing how this marginalizes the Muslim citizens of India. It is not like they were waiting for the persecuted Muslims from Pakistan or Afghanistan to become Indian citizens.

Prominent opposition politician and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has been arrested by India's financial crime agency, his party said.

The arrest is in connection with corruption allegations relating to the city's policies over alcohol sales.

Mr Kejriwal and his party, the Aadmi Party (AAP), deny any wrongdoing and say the case is politically motivated.

His arrest comes weeks before voting begins in the country's general election.

I really really wish I didn't have family and friends in India and didn't have to care so much about how much of a hellhole these fascists are making out of the country.

It’s even sadder when those friends and families are complicit in the situation and lap up all the propaganda.

Exactly. The results in June will tell you that the majority of people in this country actively want these scumbags.
Of course. Hinduism needs to be saved.
Besides people approach elections like betting on horses. You want to vote for the guy who has highest probability of winning.

https://article-14.com/post/banks-w...or-modi-govt-s-flagship-schemes-66020a2da1d42

the type of thing that happens in some district coop bank.

Without his consent, Kumar’s bank deducted money from his account and enrolled him in the union government’s life insurance scheme—Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY).

Apart from life insurance, banks have also been enrolling customers without consent in the accident insurance scheme, called Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY). These complaints also extend to the centre’s micro-pension scheme, called Atal Pension Yojana (APY).
...
Often, those enrolled in insurance schemes without consent are not aware that they are paying a premium for an insurance cover. This prevents family members from availing the schemes’ benefits, rendering their premium payments—unauthorised to begin with—futile.
...
In August 2023, an officers’ union of government-run UCO Bank sent a letter to its managing director & CEO, alleging that account holders in Dehradun were illegally enrolled in these government schemes from the back-end by the head office. Article 14 has a copy of the letter.

It says that in July-end, the zonal office in Dehradun sent the branches a list of accounts eligible for PMJJBY and PMSBY and asked the branches to activate the schemes in all of them, the letter said. Many branch managers refused to do so without customers’ consent, only for the head office to do this from the back-end.

The union’s letter said customer complaints began to trickle in, and branch managers requested their zonal office to issue refunds, but the zonal office instead instructed them to collect and backdate enrolment forms.

So I spent some time socialising among family circles this week and the honestly the more you peek into on the ground reality of the public discourse the more depressing the situation is. All the talk is about Kejriwal this, Kejriwal that with a little Raghav Chaddha sprinkled in. They live in Modi-land where he’s the superhero and everyone is a villain to he bashed and mocked, with the narrative flowing from Godi pretend journalists like Arnab.

I manage to rattle a few with talk of the collossal scope of the Electoral Bonds scam and other fun harsh truths about Dear Leader, which was nice.

Do they actually believe Kejriwal's arrest was legit???
I guess we can see how Russians can believe whatever Putin cooks up about his opponents...

Oh they’ll believe any random WhatsApp forward about the latest AAP rumour conveniently ignoring anything to do electoral bonds as it’s a mere footnote.

'India pushed towards black money': PM Modi on scrapping of electoral bonds scheme by Supreme Court

https://www.deccanherald.com/electi...ectoral-bonds-scheme-by-supreme-court-2979210

Dear Leader basically confirming what we all know anyway - electoral bonds were a money laundering scheme for the BJP.
No one really cares. Gone are the days when companies buying off political parties and political parties buying off MLAs and MPs was called corruption. Now the horse trading is open and they call the likes of Amit Shah as a political genius for just throwing a wad of cash and asking elected representatives to jump parties.
