Ineos and the women

For the summer, where should tconcentration be focused on? They are fantastic in defence right now, PTJ & MLT both unreal and I like Gabby George too.
Are you talking about facilities or recruitment? I assume the latter.

You are right about how good our defence is, with le Tissier, Turner, George and Rivière. We also have very good cover at full-backs, with Mannion, Sandberg and eventually Blundell's return. Personally though I think we need experienced cover at CB as a priority, which is a difficulty as they will obviously not get game time unless MLT or MT are injured. Janssen could play there but I'd rather she stayed in midfield.

Jess Simpson signed a new contract in January, which is good, but she's not getting minutes on loan at Bristol City as far as I can tell. There's Lucy Newell as well, on loan at Blackburn. She is doing well in a poor team.

Anyway, a CB for me, plus a replacement for Geyse, assuming she is leaving. Essentially though, a priority is to keep this current squad together whereby we recruit essential cover rather than having to replace good players leaving.

Apologies, yes I was referring to the recruitment side. But what about the facilities since it has been brought up?

Thanks for the points, yes the defence is strong but perhaps more experience needed. And good point about recruiting cover. It is sad though how the Geyse move has went.

Absolutely. And I never realised that about the training facilities, that's better than what was reported initially for sure. I did wonder what was gonna happen after Carrington re-opens in July, if the women's team went straight back into their building or not.

The training ground stuff is mostly rumours and I doubt we'll know how it actually turns out until pre-season, but at least they're happy rumours - for once.

I think we've been lucky with injuries. Even the injuries we've had happened at the right time. Toone was in trouble while Clinton was playing well and came back when Clinton was struggling. Janssen and Mizikawa stepped in for Naalsund.

The bench looks thin at times though, particularly defensively. We've replaced a lot of forwards but Rachel Williams won't go on forever and it looks like we'll lose Geyse.

If we do get in the WCL, fatigue and injuries will go up. The erratic schedule doesn't help. The squad will matter more than ever. Losing players we want to keep could still compound the problem.

There's also the intriguing fact that the women's Euros are this summer. England aren't the contenders they were last time but then Earps, Toone, Russo surprised a lot of (not United) people that summer.

Who knows maybe Wiegman will notice that MLT and Turner are pretty good. Maybe Clinton will become a key player. A good Euros could be a massive boost for the women's game and we have to be ready to capitalise on that (and not lose any national heroes!)

I think @jojojo is better placed than me to answer the facilities point. In fact, he already has done. I don't know what more there is to improve.

Great post, thanks! Looking forward to the Euros, just disappointed my team didn't make it!

Marc Skinner today:

:“I’ve said this before and I don’t know if people think I’m lying but I’m clearly not – I feel the support every single day. As an owner, Sir Jim is not going to be on the day-to-day running of our football business. That’s for Omar (Berrada) , Jason (Wilcox), Collette (Roche), for the senior leadership team management, and that’s who I deal with every day.”

“Yesterday I was sat with Jason Wilcox and the data team, who are designing data specifically for the women’s team as well, looking at recruitment. So for us, the noise around it, I don’t feel that.

“I am absolutely convinced that the women’s team has really fantastic place pushing forward with the club.”

Has there been any more noise around the women's DoF?

I've not heard anything since Polly Bancroft left. It may be one of those temporary secondments from the Academy structure is now a semi-permanent fixture.

The best news is that it looks like Dan Ashworth's removal hasn't pushed the women off the agenda completely. Getting a mention at the new stadium launch and having Tooney etc in the launch video may be a marketing nicety but that's way better than being invisible.

A glimpse behind the curtain as part of an interview with Leah Galton.

She talks a bit about the uncertainty around losing their training centre at the start of the season. The way the squad are growing and coming together their new physical and performance coach Al Stewart and how good he is.

But also about how it's easier to just block out some things:
Asked if she would want to see or hear more from any of the club’s top-level ownership, Galton says: “It’s difficult for me to say because, from what I’ve seen and experienced, no. I would rather that be left alone because it has not been the easiest and most positive.

“But if you have someone that wanted to buy into the women’s team and help us be even more successful and have belief in us then of course, yes. But unfortunately with how things have gone it’s not really proven to me that that’s how it’s going to be.

“I know the men’s team is the priority in the sense it brings in a lot more revenue but it’s difficult when this is your whole life and someone is trying to say: ‘Oh well, we’re not too bothered about that’. You put everything you’ve got into it but then to someone else, it doesn’t really matter.

“It’s difficult, it’s not the best but that’s why as a team we definitely shut out everything and we just focus on each other because we all want to do everything we can.”

Strong words indeed - or at least as strong as she feels she can say. And she's not wrong, and effectively implies that the whole squad are affected by the lack of real interest shown in the women's team.
