The FMF are every bit as corrupt as FIFA are, so they are bedfellows here.
They don’t care one bit about footballing development - Mexico as a football mad country with a population of 130 million (alongside 30-40 million of Mexican heritage in the US) with one of the wealthiest federations and set-ups in the world, have only ever produced 2 world class players in their history.
They only care about lining their pockets as much as possible. If they could line-up even more useless from a football perspective but financially lucrative friendlies in the US, they would.
All the goodwill that Mexican football received after the World Cup, with visiting fans loving their time there, and a lot of people rooting for them as hosts to do well, has basically been trashed by the FMF’s stance here. Plus promotion and relegation between the top 2 divisions in Mexico has been scrapped, due to greed and wanting to push more of a franchise model. Unsurprisingly that is devastating for clubs outside the top tier.
