Injuries going into the City game

Fortunately, he played in 3 league games at Antwerp before arriving so he should be relatively match fit if needed.
3 games in the Belgian top league equates to 90 seconds of Sunday league football in England.

Dalot will play.

We’ve already notified Manchester Airport in case any of his wayward crosses interfere with their air traffic control

Of course it's a loss. Like him or not, he's been our best WB so far this season.
he’s our worst player. Absolutely awful. He is not a miss. If anything it helps us that he isn’t there having one of his brain farts

Hopefully the formation in the OP actually happens and Shaw plays on the left.

Not against giving Shaw a try there but I fear he will be sitting on his arse waiting for the physio to come within 20 mins

I’d play Mbuemo through the middle, Amad right and Bruno left if Cunha isn’t available and then have mainoo for energy next to Ugarte/Casemiro
Mainoo for energy? He's slow and lacks stamina - not sure he's your guy if you want an energetic cm.

So besides providing an assist which helped us eventually secure 3 points, he didn't really do much. Sounds like he will be in contention to play then.
I think that’s not a bad description, but I feel it would be more precise with something like: besides providing an assist which helped us eventually win 3-2, and another good run later, plus a back heel that worked in the first half, he did probably the worst out of every involvement in the game, spiced up with being a serious no show for both their equalizers and inexplicably and needlessly doing his best to put Burnleys man onside for their third goal but failing by a margin of one centimetre.

Shaw at LWB would be a surprise and not something I’d imagine happening. I would think Amorim would want the most energy possible when playing City.

They were absolutely dreadful against Grimsby but I’d consider Ugarte and Mainoo in the midfield. They were terrific at Anfield last year and both have something to prove. Push Bruno to the 10 role.

Casemiro was fantastic va City last year and broke some sort of record for the number of challenges won in a single PL game, or something along those lines. I don’t see a way in which he doesn’t play and rightfully so. He’s way ahead of Mainoo and Ugarte.

I think Shaw has been as poor as anyone for us this season. Really hope he is on the bench. I'd take Dalot over Shaw at WB or anyone else we can come up with.

Fortunately, City's recruitment has been pretty poor in the last two to three years; the last outright success they bought was Gvardiol and that was in 2023. Recently, I only think Marmoush is an obvious success and I don't think having him and Haaland in the same team suits Guardiola.

I don't think we'll win, but I also don't think this City team is nearly at the usual level of Guardiola's teams.

Leave DD alone
Mate I love Dalot! He’s got the same style of delivery from out wide as I do……get it into the same postcode as the striker and let him do the rest, that’s his fecking problem!

Cunha should be available, thank god for the 2 weeks of no game

I forgot about that performance. I remember he was absolutely outstanding against Bilbao and I thought he broke some kind of record in that game but maybe i'm mixing them up.

Great news if true. Were did you read that?
Great news if true

From the man himself. He said "I'll be back soon" and I cant find any pic of him in crutches or anything that suggests a bad injury. And he posted it two days ago, he said soon when there were still about 10 days until the game, that shows optimism. If it was bad or longer he would have said something different I reckon, seems to care a lot for his fans.

While the sensible thing is casemiro and mainoo in midfield, it will be Bruno in their. And we'll have zirkzee, mbeumo and X in attack. Maybe he'll try Sesko.

I don't expect the defense to change - dalot and amad if their fit, maybe dorgu and mazraoui if he's feeling excitable.

Not the end of the world injury wise. Could go either way.

Excellent news if he is back. Fingers crossed.

Great great news! Now waiting for Mount's injury update. Hope nothing major too.

Soon doesn't mean he'll definitely be back for the next game! It just means that the injury is not too serious.

I'd be very surprised if he's back for the City game with a hamstring injury. Even the Chelsea game is pushing it.

Sincerely hopes he starts Lammens and Sesko.

The only place where I disagree is with Shaw at LWB (down to stamina / fitness).

Think he’s been good at LCB and Yoro has been great at RCB and both have pace. Also a left footed LCB is really effective in my opinion.

I know Dalot isn’t ideal but he’ll probably start at LWB.

Edit: If Dalot is injured then Dorgu at LWB. Someone who atleast has the stamina to go up and down the whole game.
To me, it has looked like Yoro has a very different role when he's playing on the left - much more actively involved upfield than he is playing on the right. Generally, I also think he has looked a good deal better playing on that side.

Dalot: There's a general perception of him as a sort of safe, low upside/low downside option. Not sure how valid that is. What he does quite often is just playing passive defence - standing off too far from the ball-carrier to intervene in any effective way. It looks safe because he doesn't get dribbled past much or beaten one-on-one, but in effect he leaves the door on his side wide open for runs and crosses - and also he gives the ball-carrier the most precious commodity of all - time and peace to pick just the right moment. when he plays that way he is a defensive disaster.

soon = anything from 2-3 weeks for a muscle injury..
Dont forget there are 2 weeks since his injury to City game with no game in between, plus he was taken off early ;)

Its Mount that Im worried about because he played for 30 mins injured. Where as Cunha asked to be taken off as soon as he felt something

With Cunha and Mount likely out due to injuries sustained against Burnley, how do you think we will lineup against City?

I came across this on Twitter and thought it made a lot of sense.

Thoughts?

Everything makes sense except for Shaw at LWB. At this stage of his career, he’s better suited for a LCB role.

He tends to play that role even when picked for LB and leaves oceans of space for the rw to attack at will. Never forget Maguire having to heave the fecker up and drag him over to the LB position where he should have been. Great going forward but those days are behind him now.

Prefer him there to Dorgu. Much more experience and a better balance of defend and attack.

Dorgu is still a work in progress who shouldn't have been thrown straight into the fire immediately, and likely wouldn't have been if not for Shaw's injury.

LB yes.
LWB No.

Dorgu is an asset because of him driving up and down the pitch. We can switch over the top balls for him to get on. He hasn’t been great, Shaw is a better passer on the ball but nowhere near the fitness or explosiveness Dorgu offers.

I’d love Shaw to play a game if it was a weaker team so we could test him but I don’t think City is the game. LCB should be fine for him even though he needs to be more aggressive in his play.
