Indian selectors will have a hard time picking a t20 lineup . Everyone wants to bat in the top 4 and everyone wants to take their own time . Absolutely horrendous when you have to bat first
Drop Dhawan and tell Rohit to get a move on at the top.

Shaw might be a better fit than Rahul cause he doesn't hang around.

India's problem though is too many specialist batsman. They can't hide a bowler who's having a bad day

I am not sure though that Rohit Sharma will do that . Rohit ,Kohli,Rahul and Dhawan are all good batsmen but there is just a sameness to the batting . I think Samson is a great option to open but can't see it happening

I am glad we have IPL and not just brood about United but yes totally missed that run chase. Punjab are done I feel. Csk may still stage a comeback and finish in top 4, who knows.

That's a really poor innings for someone as good as Kohli. Play the spinners out just to back youself into Rabada .

RCB won't make play offs. They just got lucky with couple of wins to start with. SRH bottled one chase and another was a win in super over.

Delhi mumbai look class apart and rest have to do some catch up. Kohli choosing to bowl first was wierd but that is Kohli the captain for you.

Delhi has an outstanding team and should be favourites for this. Nortje and Rabada are world class and their batting is possibly the most balanced. They're also the least reliant on thwor foreigners bar Rabada.

Mumbai's team is well balanced but inconsistent and should be second in line. I would think 2-4 is a toss up amongst Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore and Rajasthan. KXIP, as much as I like Rahul, are too weak in bowling to make it.

Love the balanced competitiveness this time.

If I had to call it, I would say - Delhi, Mumbai, Rajasthan and Kolkatta would make the playoffs. Leaving out Chennai :nervous:

I am sticking with my original prediction in the OP which is Delhi, Mumbai, KKR, RCB

I expected Banglore to do better. I think they will improve + RR/SRH(with Bhuvi out) are weak. CSK are a loss away from being in 'improbable' territory imo and Punjab are already out.

I was thinking Delhi splurged on Indian players and that's why their foreign batsmen contingent is weak, but I checked and they got Hetmyer for $1.1 million.. he seems unreliable to me. Think Stoinis is not that great either but done well so far.

Carey might be a better option than Hetmyer imo.

Delhi's quartet of Indian batsmen - Dhawan, Shaw, Iyer, Pant - is too strong for batting to be an issue. Bowling wise the south african duo is a big plus along with Axar and Ashwin. Only 5th Indian bowler is an issue. Stoinis is in good form and regardless he is the 6th bowling option so he will not be dropped. I think Pointing is backing Hetmyer to come good, they will send him up for another match and that might decide his fate.

Bangalore, I just don't rate their team. Who is their gun bowler other than Chahal? Every other team has one go to pace bowler (bar Chennai also perhaps) and the fact RCB has to waste an overseas slot on Udana says it all. I think their only shot of making play offs is Zampa coming good in combination with Finch hitting top form alongside AB/Kohli. Even Kohli I think needs to reinvent himself as a T20 player, he seems a bit lost in terms of his approach as of now IMO.

I think you are underestimating RR. Their top 3 in Butler, Smith and Samson will take them far. Remains to be seen if Stokes can plug a gap in lower order as a finisher or not even though he does not seem to be suited to play the destroyer/finisher role anymore. Their bowling is at least better than RCB and Punjab.

Even Chennai will be in the mix and I disagree that they will be out of running so soon. Mainly because for starters Faf seems like he is the best touch out of all the batsmen in the league right now. They just desperately need Rayadu to find form. Bowling wise, Dhoni will get the best out even a somewhat average unit now.

On a sidenote, what is with Rishabh Pant and that belly? Hard to believe he finds it dififcult to stay fit at 20 yrs of age

All fair points.

Haven't noticed that about Pant, but I was thinking that about Sarfraz.. do some these guys have no aspirations as pro athletes?

RR not good enough at bowling or fielding to do anything in this tournament. Rajpoot not really cutting it at the moment.

Delhi look really strong for me - the core of young Indian batsman is great and they've got a brilliant bowling line-up. Mumbai and Hyderabad could run them close though.

Chennai are too old, Rajasthan too flaky and Bangalore too Kohli.

I know Jaiswal hasn't hang around long and that Samson has had a few low scores, but why would you move him down the order to 4 if you're moving Smith away from opening.

They need another overseas quick to back up Archer, they do not take enough wickets. Curran is not cutting it with the ball and Stokes is not great with the ball in T20.

They keep batting like idiots too which does not help. Smith did the exact same thing Kohli did last night to Rabada, pick your match-up's better!

Completely agree. The bowling is too lightweight and it's leaving the batters with too much to do.

Curran isn't really a top-class T20 bowler if we're being brutally honest. He bowls some nice variations but his main stock ball isn't threatening enough.

Another horrible collapse incoming here.

RR are done for today. Mumbai have been really good and are not affected by their history of not performing the season after they win the title.

Big call I know, but picking Smith was a mistake. They'll have three top-line batters when Stokes comes back - they could have used the Smith money to buy a Cummins or a Nortje.

They'll be bowled out for under 100 again.
They were very fortunate to have chased down that 228 because of Tewatia and the win against CSK was purely down to Archer blasting Ngidi for 4 sixes and Dhoni's strange batting tactics of not trying to chase down the target. Punjab on the other hand will be the most furious sides. They should have beaten Delhi in their first game and then should have beaten RR.

I am a huge Sanju Samson mark but he is not doing it consistently to make his case stronger. It's ok to have couple of failures but he is just too inconsistent. Maybe a mental thing but he has to sort it out.

I was thinking the best balance for Rajasthan is to drop Smith, make Buttler captain, give Samson the gloves, have Stokes in @ 4 and pick another quick. They really lack homegrown talent in the batting department too, very noticeable when compared to Delhi, they should let Jaisawal play for the rest of tournament whatever happens.

Am I the only one who thinks the IPL - barring the first few days - has been a bit dire? There have been far too many one sided matches.

There's Delhi, Mumbai, and then daylight between them and the rest.

A by-product of cricket behind closed doors @ the same neutral venues?

It was always bound to happen. Many side lack the balance with them or are just not good enough like Punjab. Delhi Mumbai are the favorites but still early days and in this format anything can happen. I am curious to see which other 2 sides reach the play offs along with Mumbai and Delhi. For novelty purpose I hope it is not CSK, because once they are their they will just probably steal the title. As a delhi fan I am enjoying this season but for neutrals this may become a boring season.

Buttler unlucky. Was almost going to say he's gonna win this single-handedly.

Rajasthan were basically asking Jos to score 130 in a chase of 190  . If Smith decided to play out Bumrah, they would have had a good chance.
