Yes, it's oversaturated and overpromoted and the authorities are trying to put more and more on top of us, rather than less, by expanding the Champions League, Euros and World Cup.
United at home to Brighton would be standard 3pm on Saturday fodder with about 6 other games about 10-15 years ago. Instead it's on at 7.30 on Sunday on its own. It'd be fine if you had goal updates from other matches. A lot of PL games aren't good enough to dominate the attention on their own.
League football is never that interesting. There's a reason why the FA Cup was bigger than the league for most of English football history. And the CL and World Cup matter so much. It's only Sky's relentless marketing and money that have made the league into bigger than it should be.
I just can't care that much if United finish 2nd or 3rd when they're 17 points behind City. If it was a cup match, Brighton could be knocking us out here, it would make you sit up on your chair a bit more.
The best football remains the CL, Euros and World Cup. But even they were better before, for example the 16-team CL and Euros were the perfect amount of football I think.
