Is Jadon Sancho really worth the 100 plus million fee?

No way anyone's paying £100m for Sancho. Firstly Corona, secondly there's no demand. Who aside from United would pay £70m+ for him? Most teams have young wide players. Haaland or Mbappe definitely I could see if say Real come in for them.

Fyi I've seen a lot of Sancho's goals this season for Dortmund, something like half of them have been easy counter attacks with free shots. I think he'd struggle to get half the goals he does in the Bundesliga in the PL against tighter defences.

That said he is a good player, and I'd be happy for us to sign him, but people overrate him too much. I'm hoping they dont make CL and look to offload him for around £50m, because that's a fair value given the amount of risk that would be involved for us as to whether he steps up or not in the PL. Anything above £70m is a a Lukaku type risk, and Lukaku was more proven at that.
This. Look at the talent at Chelsea that they took from Germany. Look at Miki and Kagawa here. German league is like a better version of Scotlands. 2 teams in it the rest average. No way would Sancho be scoring 20 goals a season.

Did we? Scholes and Giggs were ancient, Rooney was in decline while we had Cleverley, Young and Valencia in midfield. The joke back then was that own goal was our best player. RVP converted so many chances into goals. The guy was nearly as lethal as RVN and Ronaldo were.
In 2011/12, we scored 89 goals and finished on 89 points.

Then we signed Van Persie, and... scored 89 goals and finished on 89 points. He basically scored the goals that Rooney scored the previous season.

Every season has its own story. Rooney was started to show signs of decline and tbh he was never a natural goalscorer (think of the likes of Ronaldo or RVN). We needed someone who could carry the burden and score the goals if needed. Ultimately RVP was brought in to paper the cracks. He was successful on that but that was it. We were, in fact, papering the cracks

Cavani is an expert in movement and finding gaps in defence. Are our wingers (Dan James and Greenwood from the right in particular) capable of taking advantage of that?
No but our main playmakers of Bruno, Pogba and Marcus very much are. I do wonder why people need to omit the obvious creative players in our team?

Because none of those three are right-wingers? Nobody has suddenly forgotten about Rashford, Bruno and Pogba, obviously. Two of those players are central players though, Pogba particularly is deployed deeper and has 0 assists this season. There's also the glaring issue that his time here is likely coming to an end (and he appears increasingly injury prone - he's missed a quarter of all games since he's been here through injury).

Our two right-wingers have a combined total of 1 assist this season. We've created less chances than Chelsea, significantly less than City and are on par with a rubbish Liverpool side in complete disarray. There are clear issues there, whether you want to acknowledge them or not.

When is he back. He is already behaving like a United player, out injured at the same time as our attacking players.

I'd suggest you go back and look at what I was replying to, as obviously you haven't and have gone off on a tangent about Sancho.

You replied to me! It was about Cavani and our players inability to properly make the most out of him. Off on a tangent about Sancho? In a Sancho thread of all places! Lord have mercy on my soul.

Has anyone reliable (so not those German league Twitter anus heads Faulk and forfeit) said anything about Sancho / United lately ?

Ask yourselves this, if we can afford one of Sancho or Grealish, both at 100M. Who would you sign?
If I knew Grealish could play on the right to the same level that he does on the left (or if Rashford could) I think I would go for him. His leadership and mentality, combined with his creativity and ability to hold the ball under pressure and help the transition is absolutely perfect for us. Grealish combined with Bruno (and perhaps Pogba behind them) would be just incredible. He's probably the opposition player I've most wanted here since Lyon-era Benzema.

However since we know that Sancho is just about as good on either side, I'd realistically have to go him. He's not as good deeper in the field as Grealish is, but he'd still bring an element of creativity to our front three that nobody else does with fantastic productivity in the final third. Sancho also won't be 100m anymore, whereas Villa would probably want even more than that now after Grealish signed a new contract.

nope

latest on Sancho is that Dortmund want/need to sell him this summer, problem is clubs are in a worse position now than they were 12 months ago. Dortmund really fecked themselves by not selling him to us when they had the chance, it's not going to be easy finding a club for him this summer unless they 'give him away'

He's certainly an excellent player. It's hard to think of a more ready made option, that is both (fairly) proven quality with plenty of potential.

But I think the ship may have sailed, 100 million in this financial landscape does not look like prudent squad building. If it's the last piece of the puzzle then maybe somehow it can be justified but that is not where we are at. Sancho would probably make us a more productive team but he wouldn't solve all of our problems so I think we have to be a bit smarter with our funds.

You were moaning on about Cavani not suiting the team and needing another centre forward in addition to Sancho. Then you changed it to ’only’ our right wingers, which you omitted Rashford from having ever played there this season (which he has and he got at least 1 assis I can remember playing there) to then moan about Greenwood and (a squad player) James not being good enough to play with Cavani. I can’t keep up with your tangents. But feel free to carry on.

I wish the mods would change the title of this thread. He's not going to be 100m now (let alone 100 plus as the title says) so it creates a false narrative. It should just be changed to a general Jadon Sancho thread.

I can’t think of many players that are worth £100mill in current market. There are a very few and Sancho is definately not one of them. I think he would struggle to even get 10G 10A in a full Premier league season. It’s one thing to score tap ins against Hoffenheim and Mainz but Prem is a level up. Just look at the other Bundesliga ’stars’ in Prem this season.

So.. which players are worth £100m in current market? Can only name two - Mbappé and Haaland.

Bruno going for what? £45mill? Then Sancho is £40mill maximum.

Prices are going to deflate considering the current situation, so 100M for Sancho is a big no.
He is worth max 50M also considering how he played this season.

You have to factor in his salary and agent fees. Id guess he'd be looking for Rashford level wages.

Must be! Shame you felt the need to butt in on myself asking for an explanation from another posters opinion, unless you are both accounts, how would you know?
All I said was 'Cavani is an expert in movement and finding gaps in defence. Are our wingers (Dan James and Greenwood from the right in particular) capable of taking advantage of that?'. Sorry for butting in.

This is a bit of a video game question -

It says that Sancho can play as a CF;

Can he?
Has he?
How is he centrally?

Whilst Ole has obviously gone from Ighalo to improving to Cavani and now wants to improve to Haaland- what would happen if Haaland chooses a different side and we end up only with Sancho - can he on some days play as a CF and score a goal?

Rashford-Sancho-Greenwood
I'm not saying this is right at all - but what would we see out of Sancho as a central player?

It was more of a 352 formation when Dortmund played 3 or 5 at the back earlier this season. It’s like how LVG played Robben and RVP in two up front of 352 or when Ole played 352 last season with Daniel James alongside either Rashford or martial.

There was a report Dortmund are looking to sell Juian Brandt this summer. And the perfect replacement would be Donny van de Beek. Could there be a potential swap deal to get Sancho?

Why is he not starting as much for Dortmund this season? Genuine question, as I don’t really follow German football.
I definitely would think twice paying £100M for a player that isn’t an automatic first choice for a so called “lesser club” than Utd.
The couple of times I’ve seen Sancho play for England, he hasn’t stood out particularly, is he over-hyped I wonder?

He is injured. They expect him back in April, hopefully against City.

Here's the maser plan.

Whilst all the major clubs are battling out for Haaland, swoop in with a huge Sancho bid. This is accepted and he signs due to no-one else being in for him.

Dortmund then don't need to sell Haaland for another season, at which point he is yearning to be re-united with his one and only Jadon.

Bulletproof.
This is what I think happens. Fee somewhere between 70 and 80mil. We bid 90 last year and would go any further. Dortmund now need to sell and accept Covid has reduced player value.
If they don’t qualify for CL Haaland may still be sold but I can’t see it.
Also having Sancho here would prob increase our chances of landing Haaland next year.

People will say no and they're technically right, but Sancho does make some sense as a false 9 coming deep and wide to create with Greenwood and Rashford either side of him hunting for goals. It wouldn't shock me if we saw that at times. He's definitely not a 9, but if we sign him or Grealish I wouldn't rule out playing one centrally at times as a false 9. I'm a little surprised we haven't seen Van De Beek get any time there for instance.

ESPN earlier said one of their dream signings this summer would be Jadon Sanchez heading to us.

No clue how much he is worth, though.

I dont know a thing about Dortmunds finances, but i'd imagine they, like everyone else, have pretty empty coffers right now. I suspect this summer is going to be a buyers market, so if we are still in for him and Dortmund are still willing to get rid then i highly doubt they are going to be that adamant about the price tag

If Dortmund qualifies for CL and Haaland stays at Dortmund for another year, Sancho should be on top of our list this summer again. Brilliant player!
