Is Jadon Sancho really worth the 100 plus million fee?

He's a left winger.
Everyone seems to be a flipping left-winger these days.

I think (hope) we get him because yes, he may perform better on the left but he is also better than any other option we have on the right.

He's a wide playmaker, as opposed to a winger/wide forward, which will hopefully help us when we play against low blocks.

His contract is till June 2023, they can easily sell him for 60 million or more next year I'd say when he has one year left on his contract. I expect fans to be back somewhere in the next season as well, I'd say 70 million pounds would be the minimum they'd ask for if it werent for the financial problems they might have this year. Especially if they don't make their top 4.

Also doesn’t seem like anyone else will be willing to pay the money it takes to buy Grealish. We should be able to revisit next summer and have as much, if not more, chance of landing him when we can make him our undisputed no.1 target.

The focus this summer should be Sancho who’s going to be available at a reduced rate (possibly more if Dortmund miss out on the Champions League) and is the exact type of RW we’ve been crying out for.
Agreed.

Im Irish so don't pay much attention to Englands national team but I was baffled when I heard last night on MNF that he most likely won't be in the squad this summer.
I just assumed he has been in every squad to date.

That’s why he needs to move to a big club and not stick at Dortmund. It’s also why Grealish needs to move. These players need a bigger stage.

Get this done this summer. Dortmund will need funds and we need a RW. It may just be a smart/lucky move on our part to wait a year, get top 4 again and sign him this time round, for a post Covid fee. I was living in the pre Covid world where I too thought we should spunk our load on him whether it be 120 million or 140 million. But given the climate these days, there's no chance he will fetch that sort of fee.

Why wouldn’t he be in the squad? Is he being outperformed by the likes of lingard?

I suspect he won't be because gareth has always loved jlingz and sancho hasn't performed particularly well for england so far

The only player in the league outperforming Lingard in the league since his loan is Kane so I wouldn't be mad if he got a place but some of the other names being mentioned to be chosen ahead of him are absurd

Got little doubt that he'll be in the Euro team

Sancho hasn't been particularly good for England when he's had chances before, he hasn't been as good this season as he has in the previous two (started the season poorly but he had been back to fairly good form since then) and has now missed the last month through injury. I expect he'll still be there but England do have a lot of options in those attacking positions.

Wow - I didn’t realize that Di Maria is so prolific.

If I was the England manager, I would play Rashford / Grealish / Saka in the 2 inside forward roles. I just think players that fight / scrape for goals in club football and learn to put in good performances even in chaotic teams have a better shot of adjusting in unfamiliar conditions / teams vs system players who are more used to doing their specific roles for their club teams. I think Sterling will flatter to deceive and am not sure Sancho knows how to play outside Dortmund.

We definitely need a bit more creativity in the side. The drop off after Bruno is pretty stark - I dread to think what would happen if he picked up a serious injury:

Sancho for 70m ish is far more realistic. If they agree on that fee this summer then I think it's worth doing and we will probably do it. Big if though.

Move Mason to number 9 to compete with Tony and let Cavani leave.

Then we can have Rashford, Sancho and Amad rotating for 2 wing spots.

Romano saying everything is in place to sign him except the final fee. Somehow I feel like this is pretty much us just back in the same position as last year. There are links to Dembele emerging I’ve noticed as well. So maybe RW is still a priority for Ole and Amad isn’t viewed as anywhere near ready.

I'm swaying towards this option if we can get him for a more realistic fee. Ideally Greenwood would be a bit further on in his development. Martial can't be as poor next season.

Martial is here no matter. Nobody is going to buy him and match his wages so we have to hope he is better.

I'm not sure that Dortmund would sell both Haaland and Sancho.

Even if they do finish 5th and outside the CL. Unless of course Haaland forces the move and they already have an understanding with Sancho from last summer.

In fact, didn't Dortmund keep saying last summer that they would keep Sancho for "one more season"?

Yeah, they definately are looking to sell Sancho this year to offset Covid and the fact he is soon out of contract.

As you said, only thing that can put a stop to that is if they miss out on CL and Haaland forces a move/gets bought for ridiculous money.

So the cheapest we'll get him is ofcourse if they drop out of CL spot and Haaland stays.

The only way they sell Haaland is if somebody offers 150m, so in other words, not happening. Sancho they'll likely sell this summer though.

There's a tendency in England to overlook any achievements outside of the premier league and just say they're doing it in 2nd rate leagues so it's not the same.

How much do we reckon he'll cost this Summer then?

He'll have 2 years left on his deal won't he?

Where the grass is greener.
Even if he's a "left winger" he can clearly play in many positions. Competition is good, most players thrive on it, some don't.

Want want want, hopefully we can get him for around 75m.

With everyone's attention firmly on Haaland, now would really be the perfect time for United to slip under the radar and get this deal sorted asap.

I've decided to believe this is what we're doing, based on nothing but hope.
I like to believe this is the case but likely not.

Plus, surely Dortmund would be in favour of this potential deal too ? It should take the heat away from the pressure to sell Haaland this summer. Unless a insane bid comes in of course.

It would be funny if moving on Sancho also puts a slight dent in Raiola's desperation in moving Haaland on this year while not receiving a likely fat commission fee in the process.

Even if he is a left winger, who do we have of real quality for the left wing anyway other than Rashford? James? Martial?

Reality is he can play across the 3 behind striker.

If somehow we can get him for 70m that would be a great deal

I strongly imagine that Dortmund have some sort of handshake agreement with Sancho's camp that he can go this Summer for the right price.

I also strongly imagine that United have retained their interest. You don't bid (according to SkySports) "an initial £73m, rising to up to £91.3m" in September 2020 and then lose all interest 7 months later. Which is why i am surprised that there aren't more rumours surrounding this. Although obviously there is a season to finish.

If Dortmund do finish 5th and they do have some sort of handshake agreement from last Summer, considering COVID, the 2 years left on his contract and their Europa League status, they definitely aren't getting that £108m. I would think a deal of about £80m rising to £85m should get the deal done.

With everyone's attention firmly on Haaland, now would really be the perfect time for United to slip under the radar and get this deal sorted asap.
As above, i imagine we've retained that interest from 7 months ago. BBC and Skysports both reported we bid worth up to £91m which would have made him our record signing. You don't go from that to nothing without exceptional circumstances.

New recruitment team is all in place, so let's see if they can get the job done.

A potential front 3 of Amad, Sancho & Greenwood would be tasty.

Fabrizio recently said that everything we negotiated last summer is still in place, all we are waiting for is Dortmund's price, which will probably not come until in the summer.

Thats probably why there isnt any rumours going around, all the work has been done already and no agent/interested parties are involved anymore.

Huge surprise that an 18 year old winger who barely started a game in Serie A isn’t ready...RW remains a priority and if the club had any inkling of real ambition, we’d have a deal for Sancho agreed already. A Rashford Mason Sancho front 3 would be absolutely brilliant.

How could we have a deal already agreed when Dortmund havent even given a price, and probably dont even know it yet since so much hinges on CL qualification and Haaland saga?

That front three would be way too inexperienced and inconsistent. We'd be lucky if even one of them reached double figures for the season!

It might come as a surprise but intermediaries and agents can help come to an agreement for price outside of the transfer window and HUGE SHOCK, can come to agreement on players moving OUTSIDE of the transfer window. I’m sure Ed had no idea.

Yes, but as I just wrote, what they will or can demand for him depends on the CL qualification and Haaland stuff...

I mean Rashford has reached double figures this season already despite carrying an injury. Doesn’t seem a stretch to imagine he’d do it again next season with ease with Sancho, Pogba, and Bruno around him.

Ridiculous when you consider Rashford is at double figures already this season. Mason’s natural position is play down the middle as our 9, so why delay that further. Give him a run of a games and he’ll score plenty. Give him a natural winger in Sancho even better.

Amad was always coming in as the long-term project, irrespective of Sancho.

Between him and Pellistri, as well as the new RW, we'll finally have a decent batch of options in those WF positions. We just need to get that same quality in the DM and CB positions (plus striker) and we'll be set.
