Is Jadon Sancho really worth the 100 plus million fee?

We all love United
I really think we should do a seperate thread in the transfer forum (of course) once more credible links and sources come in and when the transfer window reopens

I don’t think it is worth spending that much money on Sancho when there are quite a few really good attacking players playing for some of the lower tier team in the premier league they we might be able to get for less
I am thinking as options :
Pereira (WBA)
Traore (Wolves)
Saint Maximin (Newcastle)

While they may not be as high profile as Sancho and may not always be in the starting 11, they would improve the squad - big upgrade on James for example.
This would give us more money to spend on defensive midfield upgrade where I think we also need to invest
Might?

It's not a case of might and there's a reason all 3 would cost a lot less than Sancho. The same reason it would cost a lot less to sign Danny Ings than it would Harry Kane.

Quality journalism from the Times there.

United's priority is a right winger and Dortmund would accept a lot less for him this summer than they wanted last summer.

Yeah no shit on both counts.

Think there wont be any saga this time around. If we’ll get him it will be before the euros for around 85m euros or so

I agree with Gary on this. If Kane or Haaland were available on the cheap it could be a different story, but adding in Sancho to that mix of players looks exciting and will also give Greenwood more than enough opportunities.

Fingers crossed. Wait another year and there will be a lot more clubs with that kind of money. We should get it done now if we really want him.

Tempting fate here but I have a feeling this is already wrapped up per a gentleman's agreement and we're just waiting for both clubs' respective seasons to end before announcing it. Could see him coming for around £75-80million. Would be happy with that tbh.

I don’t think it’s “wrapped up” but I think it would be straightforward to do if United are willing to make him their #1 target.

By all accounts Sancho wants to play for United, United want him and Dortmund accept the inevitability of him leaving. They’re going toget CL football (just) but they’re still some years away from a title challenge

I don’t believe Rice will cost anywhere close to 90m. We’re also allowed to sell players - I know we don’t usually but I’m optimistic we’ll no longer be morons.
I think we saved the 80m from last year for Sancho

You think it's obvious that we'll spend well north of £200m? I admire your optimism, if nothing else.
I would like some of what he's smoking, it can't all be unadulterated optimism.

There's little chance we are suddenly going on a shopping spree when Ole has literally just proven that being frugal still gets results. I would love for the Glazers to splurge, but I doubt it happening.

And Sancho is still not worth 100 million.

I would have thought the elephant in the room in terms of that discussion is Anthony Martial.

He's a player we could get a good bit of money for but would be behind Rashford and Cavani (assuming his form doesn't drop off) in the pecking order at LW and RW respectively. If we sold him then there would be space in the squad for a top class striker and Cavani (who, being 35 by the end of next season, shouldn't be someone we're depending on as our first choice CF).

Unfortunately there has thus far been little noise around Martial leaving, which makes me think it will be him and Cavani trading places at CF next season.

Be done by June. As will Rice and Pau. Most obvious summer in years.
Bold prediction but fair play if you are proven to be right on this one, so if you had to put transfer fees on each one what would they be and who do you see leaving to raise funds for them

Ole is a Martial fan, he will be there next season.

Cavani first, Sancho next. Brilliant partners up front. Can already imagine all the good crossers or set ups from Sancho to Cavani.

With the extension of Cavani’s contract and Sancho for £70m we are very very competitive offensively next season without going complete nuts economically.

If we also reinforce our CM or CB position, we are good to go. Maybe we are able to reinforce both positions (£100).Think it’s realistic if we manage to offload Dalot, Pereira and Lingard for between £40-50m. Maybe we also can sell James for £20m?

Everyone knows the summer window is our
golden opportunity to finally make it to the top. It’s the most important window for United ever, and the Glazers know it. At the same time they have to make it good again after the embarrassing Super League in order to survive. That’s why I finally think a transfer window will go our way.

Is he? I’m far from convinced. If he was such a fan why has he been constantly looking for a striking upgrade? I think he’s fully aware Martial isn’t what he wants from his main centre forward.

I’ve no doubt Martial will be here next season, but I think if there was a fuss for him, we’d probably sell given a good enough offer.

A summer of Sancho, Rice and Torres only happens if we manage to sell some of our players for considerable amount. Currently I only see Lingard being able to fetch a reasonable amount. I actually think we will manage to sign only two of these three players. I would prefer Sancho and Rice as it will allow us to be defensively solid without needing two holding players in Mcfred. Plus Pogba and Bruno can play as part of midfield three instead of front 3.

INS:
Sancho 70M Pounds
Rice 60M
Torres 45M
Total 175M

Outs:
Lingard 25M
DDG 10M
Dalot 7M
Periera 5M
Mata 2M
Matic 2M
Total Approx 50M

That's why I crossed his name out.

You'd imagine they'd replace him. Think Kane will fit like a glove.
Probably would, they dont seem to spend so much on one player alone though. Maybe if they feel everything else is set, which it probably is...

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.

I think you can get those 3 for 180m (70m for Sancho and Rice - Pau Torres at 40m). Axel, Dalot, Pereira, Lingard and Dan James sold. Yeah it’s a net spend of around 100m but feck it. Let’s stop pretending to rebuild and actually complete the job - all those players are available this summer.

Don't you think we should push out the boat a bit more for Varane then or is he just doing a Ramos of 2015

£70m for Rice is too much. I would say max £60, but hopefully closer to £55.
