Is Jadon Sancho really worth the 100 plus million fee?

Yes, but as I just wrote, what they will or can demand for him depends on the CL qualification and Haaland stuff...
Fair enough, didn’t mean to have a go at you. More frustrated that we’re all still speculating about Sancho and that it didn’t happen when it was quite obvious it should have.

Really hopes this would be done early if we're still interested before the Haaland circus commence.

Amad was always coming in as the long-term project, irrespective of Sancho.

Between him and Pellistri, as well as the new RW, we'll finally have a decent batch of options in those WF positions. We just need to get that same quality in the DM and CB positions (plus striker) and we'll be set.
So is our policy now “a hope and a prayer?” I’m all for signing up young promising players but our wide positions are far from sorted. We need established players to hold the Fort to allow the young players time to develop without the pressure of being a saviour. Diallo comes with a lot of hype and promise for the future but he started a handful of games in Serie A. Whether it’s Sancho or a cheaper option like Raphinha, we need to look into strengthening the right side.

Look we aren’t city in terms of financial power but they added Ferran Torres despite having plenty of options out wide. That’s the mentality we need along with operating more intelligently in the market, which hopefully Fletcher can help with.

Read my post again. I'm not even saying no Sancho, I'm saying that between Amad, Pellistri and the new RW (and that may well be Sancho) we'll finally have some depth across both WF positions.

Very true,I however honestly wouldn’t be all that surprised if Amad went the other way in some sort of fashion. Most likely a loan.

Am I missing something here? Why would Fletcher be the man who improves this aspect of the club?
Technical director. As per Mitten, he would be involved in the recruitment process. That’s as reliable as you can get imo in terms of source. Whether Fletcher can do it is another issue.

That front three would be way too inexperienced and inconsistent. We'd be lucky if even one of them reached double figures for the season!
You mean the Rashford who’s about to hit 20 goals for the second season running despite coming back too soon from a major injury and playing whilst being injured a large part of this season too ?

It's probably worth keeping in mind that any drop in sudden form this season might not just be coincidental with the transfer debacle of the summer. A sudden drop in motivation can happen when your head is half out the door, but your body remains inside.

People using Amad as a reason not to buy Sancho are the Glazers dream supporters.
It's really strange seeing so many people saying it, when we've seen him play and be largely ineffective till this point. He's quite clearly a few years from being ready and we can't afford to wait that long. That and the fact that we need more than 1 winger in the squad, so I'm really stomped why you wouldn't want both.

How can you say that's the real difference  how much of Amad have you actually seen? Comparing him to Sancho is just stupid. Amad is still massively an unknown quantity.

People assumed our spending for RW was done when we bought Amad and Pellistri. One is on loan and the other is getting minutes only here and there. We should be patient with these kids but let's not assume that fixes the issue.

I strongly imagine that Dortmund have some sort of handshake agreement with Sancho's camp that he can go this Summer for the right price.

I also strongly imagine that United have retained their interest. You don't bid (according to SkySports) "an initial £73m, rising to up to £91.3m" in September 2020 and then lose all interest 7 months later. Which is why i am surprised that there aren't more rumours surrounding this. Although obviously there is a season to finish.

If Dortmund do finish 5th and they do have some sort of handshake agreement from last Summer, considering COVID, the 2 years left on his contract and their Europa League status, they definitely aren't getting that £108m. I would think a deal of about £80m rising to £85m should get the deal done.

As above, i imagine we've retained that interest from 7 months ago. BBC and Skysports both reported we bid worth up to £91m which would have made him our record signing. You don't go from that to nothing without exceptional circumstances.

New recruitment team is all in place, so let's see if they can get the job done.

A potential front 3 of Amad, Sancho & Greenwood would be tasty.
And I would think that’s too much.
Given the circumstances, everyone is stuck for cash, so I think somewhere closer to 60m would get the deal done

I have no idea how much players will cost this Summer, and I guess there's no point debating what we don't know.

But i'm almost certain that if the highest bid Dortmund receive is in the £60m region, they would rather keep him another season even if his contract does expire the following Summer. At £60m I think you'll have at least 5 clubs snapping Dortmund's hand off. I just can't see Dortmund asking for £108m one summer and then accepting £60m the next for the same player. Because of the circumstances (1 year less on the contract, possibly no CL, player remaining respectful last Summer, Covid hitting their finances and the market) they will have to surrender getting north of £100m, but not by that much IMO. Between £80-90m IMO, down from £108m 7 months ago.

Sancho will stay put as Haaland is leaving.
If Dortmund are out of the CL they will sell both players right away.
We could also let Traore go there for a year as a part of the deal.
I have said this here before but if we had strengthen the first 11 instead of buying some future and past it stars we would be right up there with City.
Sancho would have had a much higher output than both Martial and James this season he would have given us 10 goals and assists this season and helped us in games where Martial and James were utterly poor.

Get them both here for 150m great deal for BVB and we get two young top players.

Mason needs proper competition, not Martial.
You are right Martial need to be sold.

They were crazy to turn down our highest bid last summer. Nobody in the world would pay 108m for Sancho not even in normal times. We're the only club crazy enough to do that. He's a quality player but he's nowhere near that valuation.

We can't overboard about his record in the Bundesliga. The defending in that league is utterly pathetic. Werner and Havertz have really struggled in the PL too so I don't think Sancho puts up those numbers here. His England record for example is nowhere near as promising. That's a useful barometer.

I think for the right price of say 60 to 70m he'd be a good signing as he is talented and he would improve our right hand side dramatically. He's never a 100m player though. Not a chance.

Id say it’ll be havertz type money which isn’t too bad.

80-90m is bonkers. This season or the next. Even United have lost €100m during the pandemic so far. I think you need to temper your expectations

And to think, we'd already have Sancho if we hadn't wasted the money on VDB in the same transfer window. I stated this at the time, and got slated on here for it...but then again, you could say the same for Haaland....even Ronaldinho if you go back far enough...

I don’t really have expectations. I’m just talking ifs

I think what will more likely happen in scenarios like this (as I touched on) is that the “selling” clubs will just end up holding on to their talent.

I would be shocked if they’re willing to sell for £60m when rejecting a potential £90m less than seven months ago

Last year Dortmund held all the aces as far as price is concerned. Not any more. With Amad and Pellistri already there, United are not desperate for Sancho, and can afford to play the waiting game.

Not buying Donny doesn’t necessarily mean we offer in excess of a hundred million for Sancho. The idea is that United will stop paying over the top for players. Bowing to every selling clubs demands is not healthy.

mugs disproportionately hit the brier clubs, that’s has big attendances. I’ve read the revenue (so not profit, as clearly there are costs of putting on games) lost is £5m a match for United. How many home games have been behind closed doors? 30/35?

We may not be the only game in town if Dortmund decide to get rid of him.

Personally, I think this particular ship might have sailed as far as United are concerned and there have been a few reports to that effect.

The problem with that line of thinking is that in a year's time he'll only have one year left on his contract and will be very unlikely to renew, and if they were to keep him then the maximum realistic price will be around £50m (for reference, Lingard is likely going for around £25m despite his performances easily commanding a £40m+ fee at the least).

I think a fair price this summer will be £50m with add-ons taking it to £70m. The market for him is likely to be severely reduced as well as the Italian clubs are broke. Spain's big two, likewise. Liverpool don't really swim in those deeper waters and Chelsea have already spunked their load last year. PSG is the wild card though, and we could see something there but I'd say it's unlikely with Mbappe and Neymar both looking they are staying.

Is he one if the scariest attacking talents in the world atm? Yes! It's safe to say that and expect to need close to 80m £ to anyone who wants to buy him.

100%. The fact the club are publicly proclaiming their interest for Haaland suggests that this is actually the club’s haphazard strategy of a hope and a prayer that Diallo lives up to the potential. It’s ridiculous and shows how naive our club is these days.
