His team selection certainly lends weight to this notion that he favors players with pace who can counter-attack quickly. Unfortunately, teams have realized that and are happy to play the low-block against us and hit us on the counter themselves.

For a game where we had 70% possession, there is no need to have Fred and McTominay as our double-pivot. There is no need to force Rashford in as a right-winger. Also the less said about how Martial is still getting starts the better. Even an academy graduate will contribute more than him at this point.

Why aren't we playing Mata whose creativity can unlock these deep defenses? Why aren't we trying to use VDB in the midfield when we are hardly being pressed? Teams will continue to play like this against us and we need to find the answer.

Because we've played Mata and he doesnt.
