Not even with mayonnaise?No Salad
Not even with mayonnaise?No Salad
They had to give him a big contract after turning down 150m for him. MistakeWhy do people here keep trying to frame this as a positive for Liverpool? It’s a complete disaster. Salah single handedly won them the title last season. If he’d of been sold he’d of gone for mega money.
Instead they renewed him for 450k per week and he’s not even given them another 12 months. They’ll now be paying out the remainder of his contract to get him out of the club and they’ll not get a penny for him.
This will be costing them over £25m.
They couldn't have sold him for any money last summer as he'd have gone on a free. Renewing it for 2 years was a disastrous decision though, for sure. They’ve come to an agreement to let him leave..They couldn't have sold him for any money last summer as he'd have gone on a free. Renewing it for 2 years was a disastrous decision though, for sure. Has it been confirmed they will be paying him for the remainder of his contract?
I haven't read too much into it since the news broke, but my assumption was that Liverpool have already reached an agreement with the Saudi league to take him off their hands for a nominal fee, and he will then be under a new contract from Saudi rather than Liverpool. They’ve come to an agreement to let him leave..
Do you think he’ll be letting the rest of his contract go for nothing ?!
For someone who hasn’t read much about it you seem to have read a lot about it.I haven't read too much into it since the news broke, but my assumption was that there has already been an agreement with the Saudi league to take him off their hands for a nominal fee, and he will then be under a new contract from Saudi rather than Liverpool.

Hence the word "assumption" in my post. I have not claimed to be ITK on the negotiations between Liverpool, Salah and his future club. That's why I asked you a genuine question about whether Liverpool will be forced to pay Salah the remainder of wages. Thanks for offering no response other than a snarky comment. For someone who hasn’t read much about it you seem to have read a lot about it.
Yep. The question is about his last year and how he’s being compensated for it.He’s leaving on a free
I’ve given you a response. Everyone here seems convinced this is savvy work from Liverpool. It’s a total disaster whichever way it’s framed.Hence the word "assumption" in my post. About time. They're long overdue a few fumbles.I thought with usual Liverpool luck they would sell him to Saudis for a silly amount(something like £100-150m), reinvest that money and get better. Another Coutinho scenario, basically.
Him leaving on a free and Liverpool not getting any transfer fee is a fumble from them.
They probably need to sign a proper holder to do the job Gravenberch did reliably
Szobozlai, MacAllister, Wirtz, Ekitike and Isak is an elite 5
Salah's basically played every Liverpool game in the last 8 years or so, except this season. Given his contribution, he's going to be super hard to replace. In fact, this year, the fall in Liverpool form has correlated with fall in Salah form. One of the Premier League's best goal scorers and one of Liverpool's greatest ever players. Surprised we're not pushing to sell him and get a fee, but his decline has been obvious this season.
Would love to see Gakpo go and we simply start again in the wide areas. It's crazy how light we are in those positions.
The best thing I can say about Salah is that RW isn't a position I've been concerned about as a Liverpool fan since 2017.
It is in hindsight, but it was enormous money for a guy that’s 29. The real failure was not signing anyone with legs to replace him and Nunez. They lost all their pressing.Salah's basically played every Liverpool game in the last 8 years or so, except this season. Given his contribution, he's going to be super hard to replace. Even this version of Salah is still a 15 goal a season forward and that's not something to be taken for granted. VVD is going to be another in the same category when he leaves. Selling Diaz looks to be a major mistake by Slot.
It'll likely be a Saudi club absorbing his wages, similar to when Ronaldo left us. Saudi have been pushing hard for Salah the last couple of years already.Yep. The question is about his last year and how he’s being compensated for it.
Best case Liverpool aren’t paying any of it (but they’ve still coughed up £24m this season for him and will not end up with a penny in fees). Worst case they are having to pay him out in full.
Truth will likely be in the middle.
Wirtz is a good presser, Isak and Ekitiké should also suffice in that regard up front. It is in hindsight, but it was enormous money for a guy that’s 29. The real failure was not signing anyone with legs to replace him and Nunez. They lost all their pressing.
The problem with the contract you gave to Salah and Van Dijk is that you’re rewarding them for what they’ve done, rather than paying them for what you think they’ll deliver over the course of that contract.Wirtz is a good presser, Isak and Ekitiké should also suffice in that regard up front.
We have been outrun by our opponents in 27 of our 31 PL games this season - it's not that we don't have the players for it, this is something more structural that's imo mainly down to Slot. I have no doubt that these same players would look like a good pressing unit under Klopp.
Re: Salah, not sure why we haven't kept mum about it and just sold him in the summer, but maybe more things were already going on behind the scenes. Hope he gets a proper send off regardless of this season's outcome. Would've been better off letting him leave last summer on a high but that's also hindsight.
Long service. Not worth the hassle of having conflict with one of their greatest players. Why are they just letting him go for free? Couldn't they easily get some kind of moderate fee (£20m or so) for him?
Yeah, I guess it makes sense. Just seems to me like they are leaving money on the table. Even if they just said £10m, that wouldn’t put up too much of a hurdle for an interested club and he is still a huge name.Long service. Not worth the hassle of having conflict with one of their greatest players.
Also, removing the rink that no one does want him, and having to pay the mammoth wages for another season, plus potential loyalty bonuses.
Surely they’ve come to an agreement that he can go on a free and forego the money left on his contract? Why would Liverpool agree to let him go on a free, and pay out his contract? Why are they just letting him go for free? Couldn't they easily get some kind of moderate fee (£20m or so) for him?
I’ve given you a response. Everyone here seems convinced this is savvy work from Liverpool. It’s a total disaster whichever way it’s framed.
The truth is they’ve spent £24 ish million on him this season and they will have had to come to an agreement on his final year. Best case they aren’t paying a penny and he’s just walking away (unlikely as why would he). Worst case they are paying it in full.
Most likely is in the middle.
Oh and they will get no transfer fee.
It sounds like they have agreed to let him go on a free just to get him off the wage bill.
It allows him to negotiate a big deal somewhere else and they don't have to pay any more of his contract.
Clearing 450k a week off the wage bill allows them to bring in two or three good replacements. It's similar to us with Casemiro this summer.
You've changed your stance around three times in the last 12 hours about how much it will cost the club and which terms have been agreed on, when in reality you have no clue at all about it just like any other poster in here.Would be similar of Casemiro’s contract wasn’t naturally running out. Salah still has another year to run so highly likely there will be some financial compensation given he’s getting over £20m per year.
Anyway it’s a disaster for Liverpool and a costly one at that.

No my stance has remained the same. You've changed your stance around three times in the last 12 hours about how much it will cost the club and which terms have been agreed on, when in reality you have no clue at all about it just like any other poster in here.
It seems highly likely that we wouldn't agree to let him leave without a transfer fee on a running contract and pay him out his contract.
He’s not just cost that though has he? I’m referring to the new contract anyway and then subsequently losing him for free.We could have triggered the one year extension in Casemiros deal though.
I'm not sure you can call paying £36m for a player and having eight top class seasons out of them a costly disaster!
The only mistake was extending him, but that didn't look like a mistake 12 months ago and they've moved quickly to rectify it.
Surely its simply that he's agreed a smaller pay off than his contract would warrant? They want him gone and he also wants out. Suits both parties.Long service. Not worth the hassle of having conflict with one of their greatest players.
Also, removing the rink that no one does want him, and having to pay the mammoth wages for another season, plus potential loyalty bonuses.
It makes no difference. He's past his prime. Diaz leaving was a bigger blow to the dippers.Salah finished and leaving is good for Liverpools rivals. He was one of the best pl players along with Ronaldo, suarez and Henry imo.
