Is Salah Finished? | Trabzonspor player... yes you read it right

I think he is done. Not sure he is interested in Football anymore, not his priority.

What happened to his Saudi deal? Face of Muslim football etc.....? I thought that was all done and dusted?

Cosmetic surgery
wrong. Cats.

He’s gone there because no one with any sense is going to chuck big money at him, even Saudi. He’s finished at the top level. Was dire last season; dropped off a cliff and there’s no way it’s coming back at his age. Was equally anonymous at the World Cup.

I’m just gutted Liverpool aren’t stuck paying him £400k a week for another season.

From what I can gather they are paying him over 600k euros a week
So people can stop speculating, it is indeed for the money!

Trabzonspor are not even in the Champions League. They wouldn't be winning it of course, but if Salah is staying in Europe, I would think it was to improve his European record etc.

Surprising he's not heading to Saudi, unless he thinks the offers will still be there in another two seasons.

Money, muslim culture, semi decent league, Europa league, playing with Onana, Joma kit...

No top 5 league in Europe was gonna pay him the money he was apparently after, so Turkey is a nice destination for him at this point imo. Great fans and football culture, close to Egypt, and still gets to play on a relatively high level. His salary is in line with the top earners in Saudi bar Benzema and Ronaldo, so it's a no brainer in that case.

Trabzonspor also signed Trossard this summer, they look like they want to challenge for the title again, weren't that far off Fenerbahce and Galatasaray last season either.

He could get first 2 from Saudi league too.

Its 2 hours flight from Egypt and 22M euros per year contract with Europa league + Free hair transplant,
Not bad overall but still he should have gone to Saudi or MLS

Yeah, from my perspective it's much better move for him and his family than going to Saudi Arabia.

I don't think it's that attractive for him to play or live there.

Quite the surprise, this. They won't have featured at all on the list of possible destinations a few months ago.

turkey has long been thought of as the gateway between east and west. like most arabs, he’ll have headed there as it’s the logical place to start if you want to sneak into the uk illegally.

Trossard went to Besiktas. But plenty of talent in that league alright. They seem to be able to get higher profile players than Italy these days.

Saudi would presumably be more money but he's probably got a bit of that.

The Turkish league is a proper one. You get to play in front of fans who like football. The country does not have deeply sinister vibes. Trabzon looks fecking gorgeous.

I'm not finding it hard to understand the choice here.

He probably likes the area and won't be on bad money.

Pretty sure David Villa went to play in the J League just cause he wanted to go and wander around Japan the whole time

Has the salary been confirmed? Any majority Muslim country will surely make an exception for an icon like Salah? I wouldn't be surprised if they'd be willing to 2x or even 3x the salary of the highest paid player in the league in order to get him.

From Salah's point of view this also makes sense. He's still a good player so he might not be ready for semi-retirement. The Turkish league is decent, he'll be treated like a god and like someone else said Egypt is only a 2 hour flight away.

Is there a soul in Italy on the supposed money he’ll get in Turkey?
From what I can find online, Lautaro is the highest earner at €320k per week gross, so just above half of what Salah is supposedly set to earn in Turkey. Not sure what the net income is though, I think I read somewhere that Italy has a very favorable income tax regime for foreign footballers when Ronaldo signed for Juve, lots of it exempted (at least back then it was).

Much lower taxes in Turkey I believe

They're very similar to the US / Italy according to PwC if we're using these as comparisons (and to the UK). Saudi obviously would be the winner here if money were the sole focus given no income tax at all.

Where are you seeing this? The sources I could find said €17m a season (€325k p/w) with potentially €5m bonus + 20-25% of shirt sales.

EDIT: Ignore me - I missed that this was €17m net... crazy money! How the hell are they affording this?

Quite a shame that Rashford can’t read the room and doesn’t have the same love and respect for United as Salah has for Liverpool, to give up his enormous contract that lasts for another year or two, and be content enough with moving to a third world country to play for a dreadful club in a terrible pointless league instead of milking his supposedly beloved club dry.

Its very sad.

Woah dude!

Not 100% but think a lot of these giant salaries have "external funding" kind of backing, seemed to be the case with Gala & Osimhen.

Galatasaray's board coordinated specialized financial packages utilizing major institutional sponsors and private financial backers to cover the massive transfer and salary demands.

Much nicer weather in Trabzon than what he would have gotten in Saudi and more money than in MLS probably

I mean, he's not even joining Galatasaray or Fenerbahce he's going to freaking Trabzonspor. From EPL POTY to Turkish league in one season. I can't remember a massive downfall as huge as this.

I hate how Liverpool have completely gotten away with it. They should've been stuck with him for a few seasons, just like we've had to deal with Rashford.

Turkey isn't a third world country, Trabzonspor aren't as big as the big Istanbul 3, but they did win the league a few seasons ago, so not entirely dreadful, and the quality of the Turkish league is hardly terrible either - sure it doesnt hold a handle to the top 5 European leagues (you could event argue its on par with some of them) but it has a pretty decent calibre of players atm.

All that side, I agree with you.

Probably won't be getting promoted with this sort of gunk

Not sure why people are discussing at depth. Turkey on that salary is a lovely retirement destination.
