Was it 2-3 years back Saudi clubs were falling over themselves to put in 100m + bids?

Yes his level has dropped considerably but really surprised he's ending up in Turkey instead of Saudi and not even one of the big 3.

I think it’s a semi-retirement. He probably knows in his heart that he isn’t the same player after last season and took the drop down with the big money and the nice city reasonably near home.

He is 34, and for an attacker who relies on acceleration, that is quite old. Messi/Ronaldo have skewed what people expect from attackers. Most of the greats are done at that age.

He was still at his peak then. The Saudi “project” has moved away from throwing big wages at (often washed up) veterans. Seem more interested in signing players in their peak like Summerville and Trincao.

Slightly surprised Fenerbahce or Galatasaray haven’t bought him though.

280k a week plus 20% of his image rights plus it's all tax free, as Trabzonspor are paying it for him. I can see why he went there. He'll be fine there, if they get a good quality right back behind him.
Good to see Liverpool really lost out on the fees Saudi were prepared to pay last summer before he agreed his new contract and 400k a week wages :lol:

They've been shockingly poorly run for a long time now. Fingers crossed it continues.
